Hake's Americana & Collectibles 40th Anniversary Continues!
Over 150 CGC’d pedigreed comic books and more!

Hake’s Americana & Collectibles’ second auction of 2007 is nearing its debut.  The auction goes online at www.hakes.com on Wednesday, May 9th.  This year marks a landmark for Hake’s, as it is our 40th anniversary.  Begun in 1967, Hake’s has been bringing joy to collectors for four decades and will continue to do so, with the highest-quality merchandise going into their auctions and new sections being added.  Whereas Hake’s had been offering comic books to collectors for years, in January of 2005, they expanded that section to include, for the first time, CGC-graded books.  This auction has a selection of over 150 CGC books from various known pedigrees such as Mile High, Pennsylvania, Vancouver, Rockford, Crowley, Hawkeye, Lost Valley, Big Apple, Carson City — as well as Gold Key, Dell, and Harvey File Copies.

The selection we are offering in this auction includes several important books and the first appearances of many notable characters.  Some real powerhouses make their presence known in this auction, with Marvel Comics #1 featuring the first appearances of Human Torch and Angel as well as presenting the origin of the Sub-Mariner; All Star Comics #8 and Sensation Comics #1, featuring the first and second appearances of Wonder Woman (Sensation also features the first appearance of Wildcat); Fantastic Four #1, which introduces Marvel’s First Family and the villainous Mole Man; the first Silver Age appearance of the Sub-Mariner in Fantastic Four #4; Fantastic Four # 49, featuring the first full appearance of Galactus and the second appearance of his herald, the Silver Surfer.  Superman, Batman and Robin, Spider-Man, Blue Beetle, Captain Marvel, The Shadow, Plastic Man, Starman, the Justice Society of America, the Justice League of America, and the Avengers also turn up in Hake’s CGC offerings in this auction.

Hake’s also has a nice selection of bound volumes of comic books in Auction #191.  These bound volumes collect such titles as:  The Cisco Kid, Red Ryder Comics, Roy Rogers, Tarzan, and Tom and Jerry.

This auction also has several original art offerings to choose from.  Aside from an impressive selection of original art for daily newspaper strips, Hake’s is putting two pages of original art from Strange Tales #17, featuring the Human Torch on both pages, with the rest of the Fan 4 on the other.  An original, unused piece of art from the Golden Age shows Green Lantern Alan Scott, and Captain Marvel is represented with an original piece by his creator C.C. Beck.  Perhaps the most impressive piece is the item featured on the auction catalog’s front cover, a large original oil painting by Fawcett artist Marc Swayze showing the Captain in his later years.  Truly a sight to behold.

Superhero merchandise is nicely represented as Hake’s once again brings you a fine assortment of super-heroic collectibles, from Captain Marvel to the Green Hornet.  Check out the Superman section, which has numerous items, including an impressive large Superman hood ornament, an actual transcription disc for the Superman radio show, one of less than five known sets of Superman Pledge Milk Bottle Discs; Batman is represented by a rare March of Dimes Infantile Paralysis Card, a piece of original storyboard art for the 1966 TV show, a rare Batman Rocket Gun made in Italy for the English market and original art of the Batman Family by Sheldon Moldoff.  Aside from the early comic books appearances we are offering, Wonder Woman is also represented by an advertising sign and glass issued in conjunction with Pepsi.  Not to fear Marvel Comics fans, we’ve got Marvel items, too.  Some highlights include two boxed versions of the classic Spider-Man Mego action figure and a Spider-Man Super Hopper pogo stick.

A few smaller comic-related items are represented by a Captain Marvel Rocket Raider Ring and the rarely seen Target Comic Premium Ring.

Our new and impressive catalog will be mailed out on Friday, May 11th.  If you do not already receive Hake’s Americana & Collectibles catalogs and are interested in receiving one, call us toll-free 1-866-404-9800, ext. 443.

The auction begins closing on May 29th (Items #1-954) through the 31st (Items #955 and up) and has many great highlights, including some incredible collections.  For more information on these items, check out the homepage at www.hakes.com.
