CGC at the FX International Convention
By Wm. Eric Downton

FX International Convention
January 25th - 27th

Me and Dan Brereton

CGC was off to Orlando, Florida for our first-ever FX International, The Coolest Show on Earth! And it was definitely a very cool show. Although FX is primarily a media and toy show, they have certainly stepped up the comic guests over the last few years. We had such star creators as Dan Brereton (The Nocturnals), Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother), Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets), Gene Ha (Authority), and Art Baltazar (Tiny Titans) in attendance and the schedule for next year, which they are already starting to post, looks just as good! A few Gene Ha Fallen Son #3 sketches were done at the show and I must say they are some of the best sketch covers I have ever seen. Amazing work!

In addition to the many amazing comic artists in at the con, we also had some incredible fantasy artists such as Ken Kelly and my personal favorite, Brom. We also received our very first Brom Signature Series sketch cover on a Fallen Sons #3, an undead Captain America by a master of fantasy horror art!

Over in media stars area, we had two, count 'em TWO, Super-Girls at the show! The original Supergirl, Helen Slater, and the newest from the hit show Smallville, Laura Vandervoort, were in attendance signing autographs for their many fans. Also on the DC front, we had the original Batman, Adam West! Speaking of heroes, three fine actors from NBC's sensational Heroes show were signing away as well. Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman), Stephen Tobolowsky (Bob), and sci-fi legend George Takei (Kaito Nakamura) were all signing away and they were such gentlemen to their fans! Also, the star of Firefly and Serenity, Nathan Fillion, was on hand signing autographs, so you will see a few more Serenity Signature Series comics popping up any time now!

Last, but certainly not least, rising stars on the comic scene Big City Comics were in attendance hawking their books like pros! Big City Comics, started by star artist and Ant creator Mario Gully and writer Jeff Kaufman are poised to take the comic world by storm by promising free variant covers to dealers who buy only five copies and by signing star talent such as Tommy Castillo (Batman) for a run of Tempest and Alex Saviuk (Web of Spider-Man) for variant covers. They are also promoting their War 4 Comics to help promote comics and bring in new comic readers. You can join the war effort from their Web site, http://www.bigcitycomics.com!

All in all, the FX International show was a fun show filled with great talent and I was proud to represent CGC at this event. I cannot wait for next year when comic legend Michael Golden (Marvel Fanfare), Mark Texiera (Moon Knight), and Jim Mahford (40 Oz. Comics) are already scheduled to be in attendance!
