February Heritage Auction to Feature "Mile High" Adventure Comics Run
Heritage Auction Galleries has announced that the Edgar Church "Mile High" copies of 33 Adventure Comics issues from 1939-1946 will be featured in its next auction of vintage comics to be held February 27-29 in Dallas, TX. All will be auctioned without reserve.
Beginning with issue #44 and its memorable Sandman cover, the run of one of DC's flagship titles ends with #102 and the "superhero-look" Sandman and Sandy. In between are pristine copies of many of the Hour-Man and Starman issues.
"Looking through this run was one of the bigger treats I've had in a while," said Ed Jaster, Vice President of Heritage Auction Galleries. "The first superhero issue of the title was #40, so to see the Mile High copies of #44, 47, and 49-53 inclusive was about as good as it gets for anyone who appreciates Golden Age comics.
"Of course, we will be sending these to CGC for third-party certification," Jaster added. "And considering there are no true high-grade copies on CGC's census for issues like #47, 55, and 59, it will be interesting to see where the Mile High copies rank. Looking at this box of sharp-cornered books with white pages, you would think these had to be reprints or the like. They are truly amazing."
Also offered as part of this run are some previously certified "Mile High" specimens, such as NM+ 9.6 copies of #54, 57, 70, and 92.
Jaster noted that consignments of Golden and Silver Age comics and original comic art are still being accepted through the January 14 deadline.
