Rare CGC Ashcan and Golden Age Collection Hits ComicConnect
Scarcity is a word often used in our hobby. When it comes to comic books, scarcity is defined by the rare remaining artifacts that encapsulate the significant cornerstones and turning points that gave rise to the mythology and icons known and loved by millions across the globe today. This week, ComicConnect.com was graced with such a consignment.
The 20 new CGC-graded listings include some of the earliest comic books from the Golden Age, pedigrees, and highest-graded copies. Perhaps most significant of this collection are the “ashcan” comics it contains. Ashcans were printed by the early comic book publishers in order to secure and protect their legal right to use certain titles. In most cases, they were the first published instances and earliest inceptions of the impending arrival of a title or hero. Their rarity comes from the fact that they were indeed throw-aways meant for the “ashcan” (or trash bin), printed in short runs not meant for sale or distribution, for no other purpose than to reserve a name.
