Jerry Weist Auction Includes Many CGC Graded Highlights

Jerry Weist will mount 370+ lots on eBay for a 10-day auction on November 6th, 2008. Mr. Weist's auctions feature Golden Age, Silver Age and 1950's Horror Comics, Original Artwork, Fanzines and EC special Ray Bradbury items, but most importantly, a large number of CGC-graded comics.

Highlights will include; New York World’s Fair 1939 in (2.5) – starting bid $500; Action Comics #17 in (5.5) – starting bid $700; three special Signature Series E.C. Comics signed by Ray Bradbury, including Haunt of Fear #16 (6.0), Weird Science (Canadian edition) #19 in (6.0) and Tales From the Crypt #34 (Canadian edition) (with the Davis Frankenstein cover) in (5.0).There are also two special Gaines File Copy E.C.'s being offered with Shock Suspenstories #15 in (9.0) and The Vault of Horror #37 in (9.4).These are followed by the rare and sought-after Chilling Tales #13 in (7.0) and #17 in (7.0), both with the remarkable classic Matt Fox horror covers.

Harvey File Copy Horror titles include Chamber of Chills #13 in (9.2), Chamber of Chills #16 in (8.5), with Black Cat Mystery Comics #'s 39 and 43, both in (8.0). These copies were bought early from the Geppi Warehouse find and still have light tan to off-white pages – scarce for the 1950s Harvey Horror titles. Finally, the classic Wally Wood cover for Eerie #3 is represented in a clean (6.0) copy.

Weist has also been featuring Silver Age comics that were bought by the same collector who discovered the Lloyd Jacquet Estate Golden Age find. This man bought doubles for DC and Marvel Silver Age titles (sometimes 3 to five copies), and put many of them away in Mylar's with acid free boards in the 1970's – something almost unheard of, yet today, they yield record-breaking CGC grades and many have white pages. Highlights this time around include; The Shadow #1 (9.8) – starting bid $100; House of Mystery #186 (9.6) top known Grade – starting bid $200; John Romita's My Love #1 in (9.4) tied for top Grade – starting bid $400; Our Love Story #1 (9.4) tied for top two – starting bid $200; Silver Surfer #15 in (9.6) tied for top three – starting bid of $400; The Witching Hour #8 (9.6) top Grade! The closest copy is 9.0 – starting bid of $80, and many other stunning copies. There are a total of sixty-four CGC lots with this client and some lots have two issues featured together – the majority of these grades coming with white pages.
