Comics Registry Review: September 2008

The past few months on the CGC Registry have been full of activity, including the Third Annual Registry Awards and the addition of many new sets!

The Registry Awards are held annually and give participants a chance to compete to earn some rewards for their collections displayed online. Overall quality, balance and completion, in addition to registry score, are all important considerations when the sets are judged in competitive categories. Additionally, collectors with the top set in each set type category receive an icon of recognition by his / her set in the registry, and a certificate of achievement. To participate and be eligible for next year’s awards, just enter your set online in the Comics Registry.

We have been rapidly expanding the number of sets on the Registry in response to requests that users have made both on the Chat Boards and through our contact e-mail. This helps keep the site a useful tool for collectors and allows a greater variety of collections to be displayed. Some of the notable Golden Age sets that have recently been added include: Feature Comics, Aces High, Headline Comics, Combat, Katy Keene, Rifleman, Crime Reporter and Authentic Police Cases. Also, our Action Comics set has now been expanded to include all issues currently released. Some of the notable Silver Age sets that have recently been added include: Spooky, Blackhawk, Stumbo Tinytown, Challengers of the Unknown and House of Mystery #s 1–173. Of course, the Modern-Age comics that are popular were requested and added, including: Dark Tower: The Long Road Home, All-Star Superman, Secret Invasion and Liberty Meadows. Of the 200 new titles currently requested and approved, 100 have been completed so far and more are being added every day!

In order to get started with the Registry, you would just need a free membership with the Collectors Society, and then visit this page. If you are already using the Registry and you have a set type that you would like to see added or if you want a currently existing set expanded, you can visit our CGC Registry room on our Chat Boards. This is also a great place to meet up with other members of the Registry and discuss your collections. If you have not posted before, you can sign up for a free membership here.
