Original-Owner Three Rivers Collection Debuts in Pedigree Comics' August Grand Auction

According to Doug Schmell, CEO and president of Pedigree Comics Inc., his company’s upcoming Grand Auction, scheduled for August 2010, will debut a fantastic high-grade, original-owner collection out of Michigan called the Three Rivers Collection. This consignment of almost 1,000 comics features mostly Silver Age Marvels, DCs and Charltons, plus an amazing group of Dells and Gold Keys, all in high grade. There are many ultra-high-grade Bronze Age Marvels and DCs, plus a few magazines from the ‘70s. “This collection is amazing,” offers Schmell. “It is easily the nicest original-owner group of books we have ever received at Pedigree Comics. The collection was amassed by two brothers who loved comics and bought each issue new off the newsstand where they lived in Three Rivers, Michigan. Each book was carefully picked out, purchased and then put away. None of the books were ever read. The books were horizontally stacked and stored in boxes over the past 47-plus years and then just recently consigned to us. The collection is now in the process of being CGC-graded, and the initial 200 or so Silver Age books will be available to bid on and purchase in the auction. All the books have supple, white pages and are structurally Near Mint. We estimate that the average grade of the books is 9.2 or 9.4, with many 9.6 and 9.8 examples.”

The Marvel portion of the collection features very strong runs of Fantastic Four, Strange Tales and Tales to Astonish. The DCs include runs of Blackhawk, DC Special, Demon, Doom Patrol, Flash, Forever People, Freedom Fighters, Justice League of America, Metal Men, Mr. Miracle, New Gods, Super DC Giant, Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, Tarzan, Tomahawk and Wonder Woman. The Dells and Gold Keys include myriad great titles (Bullwinkle, Four Color, Rocky and His Fiendish Friends, Snooper and Blabber, Quick Draw McGraw, Yogi Bear) and an INCREDIBLE, near-complete run of Flintstones #2 - #60. Charlton titles include Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Fightin’ 5, Gorgo, Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves, Peacemaker, Thunderbolt and many more.

Please check this space and the Pedigree Comics website, www.PedigreeComics.com. in the upcoming weeks for more announcements on the auction in general and on the Three Rivers Collection in particular.
