ComicLink Winter Featured Auction Is Ending

Posted on 3/6/2012

ComicLink’s Winter Featured Auction is ending right now, so it’s time to place your bids on more than 1,000 impressive CGC-graded comic book lots, and many exciting original art lots.

“There are many incredible comic books and original art items within this auction, and though a highlights page is posted to the auction page, we encourage bidders to view each and every lot — there is not a single ‘clunker’ within this blockbuster auction of 1,000+ lots,” says Josh Nathanson.

Leading the pack in this impressive auction are two incredibly rare CGC 9.9 Silver Age keys, Captain America #100 CGC 9.9 and Iron Man and Sub-Mariner #1 CGC 9.9. Both are unfathomably high grade for books of this era and the chance to go after both in one auction is virtually unheard of!

Other Silver Age highlights include Amazing Spider-Man #2 CGC 9.6 (1 of 3 in 9.6 and the nicest ever brought to auction), Amazing Spider-Man #14 CGC 9.6 (highest, first Green Goblin), Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 CGC 9.8 (1 of 3 in 9.8 and the highest graded), Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 7.0 (first Spider-Man), Avengers #1 CGC 9.0 (first Avengers), Avengers #4 CGC 9.6 (a 9.6 with great page preservation), Daredevil #1 CGC 9.6 (first Daredevil, second highest next to a mere two 9.8s), Fantastic Four #1 CGC 7.0 (first FF and first Marvel Superhero title), Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 8.0 (first appearance), Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.8 (the only double cover for this issue, first Wolverine), Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC 8.5 (first Thor), Justice League of America #1 CGC 9.0 (first JLA series), Sgt. Fury #1 CGC 9.0, Showcase #22 CGC 9.0 (first Green Lantern, highest graded, 1 of only 3), Silver Surfer #1 CGC 9.8 (highest), Tales of Suspense #39 CGC 9.0 (first Iron Man) and X-Men #1 CGC 9.2.

There are also numerous Golden Age highlights in this auction. Just a few include complete Near Mint range Gaines File Copy runs of Weird Fantasy and Frontline Combat, Action Comics #100 CGC 9.4 (single highest), Archie Comics #1 CGC 6.0 (R) (first Archie series), Batman #32 CGC 9.6 (single highest), Detective Comics #1 CGC 3.0 (scarce premiere DC issue), Detective Comics #33 CGC 6.5 (1st Batman origin), Katy Keene #1 CGC 9.4 (1 of 2, highest), Marvel Mystery Comics #8 CGC 8.5 (2nd Highest, part 1 of classic Torch / Sub-Mariner battle), More Fun #67 CGC 9.6 Mile High (single highest), Pep Comics #22 CGC 6.5 (R) (rare, 1st Archie) and Superman #34 CGC 9.4 (single highest).

The original art segment of this auction also features some extremely impressive items. Among the top highlights are an Amazing Spider-Man #34 page loaded with Kraven images and a Tales to Astonish #61 page both by the great Steve Ditko. Additionally there is an Avengers #3 page featuring Hulk, Thor and Sub-Mariner battling, an Eternals #6 full team splash, a Fantastic Four #43 page featuring the FF and the Frightful Four, a Tales of Suspense #47 cover recreation and a Thor #152 page featuring Thor battling the Destroyer all by Jack “King” Kirby. Other stand-outs are a Neal Adams Brave and the Bold #76 cover which is only his 3rd Batman cover art, a wonderful Barry Windsor-Smith Conan #13 half-splash, a stunning Stephen Bissette and John Totleben Saga of the Swamp Thing #34 double page spread, a John Romita Daredevil #14 page from his first issue penciling the title and a Captain America #139 page featuring Cap and Bucky battling in WWII. There is also a Carmine Infantino Flash #119 page which includes a Flash transformation panel, a Frank Frazetta Li’l Abner daily and a White Indian page, a 1970 Bernie Wrightson Sci-Fi painting and much more.

There is just too much to list in a single article, so bidders should definitely check out the auction highlights page where they will find a more complete list of the top items in this auction.

"ComicLink is now accepting consignments and allocating generous cash advances for items placed to our March Focused Auction and our May Featured Auction” notes Nathanson. “As always, we look forward to hearing from you and promoting your items to the fullest!”
