ComicLink Accepting Consignments for May Featured Auction

Posted on 4/3/2012

Consignment Director Douglas Gillock reports that ComicLink is now accepting consignments and allocating generous cash advances for items placed to the May Featured Auction.

“The May Featured Auction will spotlight nothing but material specifically selected for its superior quality and desirability. Every bidder interested in vintage comic books or original art will be watching it, and it is a prime venue that will give sellers maximum exposure and promotion for their best items,” says Gillock.

We’ve already seen numerous exciting comic book highlights submitted for this offering, ranging from major Silver Age keys to very rare high grade Golden Age issues. Two Silver Age runs that are prominently featured in the preview are Fantastic Four and Tales of Suspense. Books like Fantastic Four #5 CGC 9.4 (first Doctor Doom), #12 CGC 9.4 (FF versus Hulk), #25 CGC 9.6 (FF versus Hulk), Tales of Suspense #39 CGC 9.4 (first Iron Man), #40 CGC 9.2 and #46 CGC 9.8 (first Crimson Dynamo, highest) are tough enough to locate individually and it is very unusual to find them all in a single auction. Just a few other Silver Age highlights already scheduled are Amazing Spider-Man #33 CGC 9.8 (highest), Flash #143 CGC 9.8 (single highest), Green Lantern #33 CGC 9.8 (single highest), Showcase #22 CGC 7.5 (first Silver Age Green Lantern), Sub-Mariner #1 CGC 9.8 and Wonder Woman #198 CGC 9.8 (single highest).

The Golden Age segment of this auction is especially impressive with some exceptional high grades leading the pack. All Star Comics #5 CGC 9.6 (single highest) and Wonder Woman #7 CGC 9.2 (second highest) both come from an Original Owner collection that is fresh to market and they are simply stunning in person. Also included are impressive items like All Winners Comics #1 CGC 9.4, Marvel Tales #93 CGC 8.0 (single highest), Sub-Mariner Comics #41 CGC 9.0 (highest), More Fun Comics #14 CGC 5.0 (Superman prototype, Original Owner), Thrilling Comics #70 CGC 9.6 Aurora pedigree (highest and 1 of 2), Weird Science #4 (#15) CGC 9.8 Gaines File Copy (single highest), World’s Best Comics #1 CGC 7.0 (Original Owner) and much more.

There are already numerous impressive highlights schedule for this Original Art section of this offering, including a Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-Man #6 page featuring Spidey in every panel taking on the Lizard. Aside from the splash, this page may contain THE best combination of Spider-man and Lizard in the entire book. Other highlights include a Jack Kirby Avengers #3 page featuring the very first meeting between the Sub-Mariner and the Hulk, Kirby Thor pages from Journey Into Mystery #106 (battling Hyde) and #112 (recounting the Avengers versus Hulk and Sub-Mariner battle from Avengers #3), a near-complete Kirby Pre-Hero story from Tales of Suspense #27 including the splash, John Romita’s Amazing Spider-Man #95 cover art with a huge figure of Spider-Man and a London cityscape, John Byrne’s Captain America #255 title splash homage to the classic cover of Captain America Comics #1, Gil Kane’s Conan #38 cover art, a Frank Frazetta 1940s Romance page, the penultimate page from Amazing Spider-Man #238 which features the very first appearance of the Hobgoblin in his costume, Joe Kubert’s Our Army at War #196 cover art, a David Finch Amazing Spider-Man cover, and a John Romita Jr. Spectacular Spider-Man cover. There is really too much to name in a single article, so interested buyers should definitely check out the art segment of the preview.

“With books and art like this coming in so early, it looks like this Featured Auction is poised to be one of the strongest of the year. As always, we look forward to hearing from you and promoting your items to the fullest!”
