Latest addition?second chances.
This has been the best month of collecting in my life. I was able to find and purchase both of the comics that have been at the very TOP of my ?must have? list for the last couple years. What are the odds of both of them coming up for sale at the same time, let alone becoming high bidder on both?!?
I could not believe it when I saw this book up for auction on eBay again, and listed by a seller who primarily deals in electronics no less (how he ever got a hold
The dilemma continues!
If you read my last journal entry I was eagerly awaiting my graded copy of FF #29 from CGC. I have been at war with my inner self on deciding whether it is more worth while to buy risky ungraded Fantastic Four pedigrees or CGC graded copies that come up for auction or sale?
I must say I am pleased with the outcome of this purchase and grading. I purchased FF # 29 copy for less than have the price of my FF #22 Big Apple copy 9.0 and FF #29 received an 8.0 with the Big
The grading is done.
Well, it took almost a month before the CGC got to grading my comics and let me tell you that was a very long month. Since these were my first ones the anticipation was building every week I would check on the status and there they were sitting in the verified status. Finally, the grading part was done this week and I do say for my first ones I did good.
The comics I sent were a set that I remember reading when they came out and that I had forgot about until just recentl
Richie Rich Richies #50 CGC 9.6, Richie Rich Dollars and Cents #66 CGC 9.6
I bought both of these issues off someone on E-Bay. I thought they were in very good shape, so I sent them in to CGC and was completely shocked when they both came back 9.6's!! Thats what a Modern Comic would get right off the shelf!!!! These Comics are both over 20 years old. The main reason I'm writing this is to just say "You can find great comics on E-Bay!" The person who was selling these had FULL PAGE SCANS, so it
Latest addition...at last.
The title of this journal was either going to be ?Getting outbid blows? or ?Latest addition?. I?m thankful it?s the latter and I?m still trippin that I actually own this comic (I elected to wait until the book was actually in my hand before posting this). It?s been a long stressful crazy road. This is the first comic I?ve ever bought from an auction site (company name withheld) outside of eBay and the experience has been nerve-racking to say the least. The auction wa
Villains: X-men, Silver Surfer
So there was some interest in the Random Registry Ramblings, but to keep things simple I?ll limit my posts to one or two topics at a time. Right now, let?s talk about?
The art of the crossover- no I?m not talking about Steve Nash with a basketball I?m talking about great Silver/Bronze Age appearances by cool heroes/villains where the story continues from one title to another. For many of these you have no way of knowing what happened to a character prior to the
Arriving earlier this month, the final piece to the puzzle... my graded Human Fly #15!
As mentioned in my previous journal entry, after a long search I finally found a solid-looking Human Fly #15 for my "Righteous Rojatt's set" which appeared ripe for slabbing. As mentioned previously, the Toronto Paradise-Con once again rolled into town and north of the boarder I headed, 9 raw books in tow, including the #15. I certainly didn't want to set my expectations too high, but was moderately hopin
So maybe I have been a little lazy and probably have no excuse for not providing a update on my collection as of late!
Hiyo!
Whoa! Look at the distance in time since my last post of update of my ever growing collection of comics! Maybe a little too big of a time gap!? Well I think of it as... a tough, third and long situation (Thats Football-lingo for you clueless comic readers!) and I need to convert now and not later, because stretching this to fourth-down situation... is not up for discus
Help on what to send, any suggestions?
I have just joined CGC and I wish to send off a few of my comics I have in my collection, but I'm unsure if they will be worth it.
These are the following comics that might make up my main 3,
Amazing Spiderman 129 - first Punisher, I paid $170 for this example, not 100% of what it will achieve grading wise.
New Mutants 98 - First Deadpool, I paid $105 for this copy from a comic shop - they had there own grading system and they stated it was GEM MIN
This is the first time I have sent comics for grading.
I finally made the plunge and decided to send off some comics for grading. I was a little nervous at first, because you don't want anything to happen to your babies. After everything was packed I sent them on their way hoping to get a good grade. The comics I sent were some Shogun Warriors comics from the late 70's. These were probably one of the first series that I read and I hated it that they stopped at #20, I think they could have gone
Did you heard about the "All-Star Batman and the Boy Wonder" #10 having a visible potty-mouth, because I got one coming!
Hiyo!
Well, well, well... I love new release days, like the one this past Wednesday on the 10th of September! Not only did I had to be on a budget ($60), but also unknowingly picked up second print of Action Comics #866 (Red-overlook of the same first print didnt trigger me) thinking it was the next issue. Then, I notice upon walking out and getting home... I am missing so
Wow what a wait... Hello, I finally shipped my 1st group of comics to CGC ... the waiting is tough. I know CGC received them, but I'm not sure what condition they are in. I shipped them the same week of the storm. A minor storm .... yeah Right, hearts out to the familys.
There were 10 sent in for grade, not in any order this time. Civil War Turner sket #1 , Wolverine old man #66, Battlestar Galatica zero #1, just to name a few , 'said nuff' Well until next time.
My dilemma of purchasing graded CGC copies vs. raw copies and then grading continues...
I recently purchased 2 fantastic four pedigree copies from a well known dealer. The first Fantastic Four copy issue 22 was CGC graded and received a 9.0 with the Big Apple pedigree for $500.00. The second issue is Fantastic Four Big Apple copy and is not CGC graded. The advertised grade was VF/NM and I purchased for less than half the price of first issue at $225.00.
There are obviously no guarantee o
Not bad, could be better
Montreal is not known to be a hotbed of the comic collecting world, in fact I have yet to find a decent store with older books. But when the Con comes to town, the bank account gets drained. Graham Crackers & Harley Yee were the most popular booths since they never come here and have real quality stuff. Found a long sought after Avengers Annual 1 in decent shape (VF+ to NM-) Completed the 2nd Thor & Hercules trilogy with Thor 128-130 (all look VF) Couple mor
Is it bad to walk over to the Marvel section and feel drunk and/or dizzy after staring at all the "Spiderman" & "X" titles for more than 3 minutes?
Hiyo!
So the fourth of September rolls around and so does the new releases for DC moderns! Today, I was a man on a mission... to get my comics and not be their too long, but also stay within my budget for this week.
Funny thing happen while getting my comics!
I found a misprinted mint condition (No nick or nacks!) copy of Nightwing #147
Anybody reading this, would truly be proud of my newest hard-fought for series I just acquired for my collection!
Hiyo!
Lately, I havent been truly honoring the title I choose to recoginize myself by (Undying Spectre) as a member here since I joined the Collector Society... way back when. Many times, I felt my collection was incomplete, because even though I truly love the character, The Spectre, and find him truly fascinating... I didnt have any of his early series comic issue runs in my co
...minus one issue
Well, I just bought my last issue that I was missing from my set. There is one more issue that is about as rare as the holy grail, which there is only 1 graded copy, and it belongs to Marvel Madness.
If I was him, I would hang on to it to! It must be such a feeling to see that there is only one copy graded, and it's from 14 years ago, and you have the only graded copy!
But, even though he does have a graded copy, that doesn't mean that I will stop my search, or e
I got the grades on the last order I sent in.
Just checked and they have the grades posted.
Fantastic Four Annual #2---Apparent 6.5. I really expected a lower grade on this so I'm happy. I paid $85 for this one.
Tales From The Crypt #46---5.0 which is what I expected on this one. I paid $134 for this one.
Also, I just renewed my membership for the year. I already have a few ideas for the free submissions but, have not made up my mind yet.
I usually start slowing down on buying comics
Just got my copy.
If you are a fan of the old Warren Magazines then you need to find a copy of this one. The first Volume, by Dark Horse comics, reprints issues 1-5 and looks great. Its a bit expensive at $50 but its worth it. Now you can read these issues and have your original copies certified.
Learn about how I started into comics and my gradual move to specifically collecting DC war comics.
I'm not exactly sure how old I was when I started collecting comic books, but I do remember where I it all began. My dad owned a coin shop and next door was a used book store. They used to sell old comic books and I would go there whenever I had some money and buy what I thought was neat. I loved DC horror and mystery, anything 10 cent or 12 cent covers, and DC war. The Flash, and the Incre
So its here! This is the "last week of new modern age releases" for comics and DC has taken home the "Heisman" trophy!
Hiyo!
Sorry to disapoint this time, but no "strange adventures to my local comic book shop" or "checkbook/budget crisis" this time!
So without delay! Let commence with "my list" of my lastest purchases ($79.57 worth of purchases!) for my ever growing DC collection!
Ambush Bug: Year None
(DC 2008) (#2 of 6 Issue On-going Mini-series)
Batman: Gotham After Midnight

So, I know I have been slaking-off as of lately, but that doesnt mean I dont care. Right?
Hiyo!
Usually when I do these journals... they are 1-3 days after the "new release" day for "new moderns" and I tell you about my crisis in staying within my budget while getting and/or catching up in the "DCU", but I have been a busy/lazy boy!
Lets try catching you up on my ever growing collection, okay?
It starts on last week Wednesday, August 20!
So I got out of work and went straight to my "lo
I hadn't been in a comic book store, it seem like ages, until the other month. I saw several books that caught my eye and I had to have them. Now I'm back collecting not in the same style I once did.
Want to say hello to you all. I'm glad to be on the site were comic enthusiast gather. I am still figuring out what comics I'm going to send CGC for grade, will it be sets, runs, or mixed that is the question, but gotta start some were.
