The Hunt

Are anymore surprises still out there? As the advent of CGC has caused me to reevaluate my collection and reaquire higher graded books or submit my own high grade copies, I wonder if it is still possible to find high grades in a yard sale, flea market or some other venue. I remember coming across a run of Tales of Suspense from issues 47-70. This was 1987 and the store was named Bayshore Comics and Cards in West Haven, Ct. Sadly, the store is no longer there. The gentlemen who owned it was p

Favorite comic dealers

I was wondering where Collectors' Society members like to shop in order toget their comics and sports cards I was wondering where Collectors' Society members favorite places to get comics and sports cards. I like to preorder my comics from ebay member sector2814comics. He has an ebay store, has decent prices, ships stuff in a box(i hate it when people ship stuff in an envelope and it gets bent up) and bends over backwards for his customers. His website will open up around this spring. Anybody

Heritage discount vs Collectors Society

20% vs 10%-Awesome! Not being able to check status-Ugh! Heritage Auctions (as well as various other CGC submission affiliates) offers a great 20% discount on submissions entered through their website and enters their own customer/dealer # on the form. I sent off a shipment of 28 books and received an $84 discount (the price of grading almost 6 modern books). Had I sent off my shipment through the Collectors' Society, I would have received a 10% discount which would have equaled $42 (Almost 3

Joined today because I'm finally done putting it off

Better late than never. Totally lost! Been wanting to join for some time now but never bothered for one reason or another.I stopped collecting comics about 15 or so years ago-I had to choose between comics or sportscards-but never lost my love of a good story or match-up.I've been picking up Wizard magazine for some time now and I'm TOTALLY lost with what's going on in the Marvel and DC universe but still enjoy reading it from cover to cover.(I'll probably wind up subscribing to it.)Anyway,I

Who to Trust?

Burned on EBAY too many times. I hope I've learned my lesson. I'm tired of getting burned on raw books on ebay. I bought an AMZ SM #3 that looked to be VG. When I got it I was very happy with the cover, but the pages were brittle and after flipping through the book the spine split on 1/2 the pages all the way to the staple. I wrote the seller and he agreed to refund 1/2 my price, which at the time, I thought was fair: bringing my investment to $96.00 However, after a few more viewings,

Joined Today Because...

I've got Amazing Spiderman #1; I love statistics; I love the "art" of grading. So, I got a copy of Amazing Spider-man #1 and the pages are all intact. But the cover is scuffed up. I figure, if I sell it as a GD and it turns out to be a GD/VG, that would be a $400 mistake. I also want to be fair to myself and to my future buyer--so an independent grader makes sense.   I also love grading and what better way to learn than to get close to the masters.   Statistics on comics is fun,

Once they are "Slabbed" they become Liquid.....

You strive for the best, so what do you do with your not so HG slabs? Replace them with better in a kindof turnover basis? I love collecting comic books for both their Artistry as well as their Story lines and/or Characters. I tend to lean towards the "Amazing Spider-Man" as well as the "Uncanny X-Men" lines. Throughout my collection, I have chosen many of which to be graded. Most of these books came direct from shelf to bag/board before leaving the Comic Store. I have multiples and I tho

Beware of Really nice issues for example ASM #300, being sold as Un-Res, yet infact had RESTORATION

I recently purchased an ASM #300. I bought it as a VF-NM- Really looked sharp, But.... When I submitted the book to CGC, they found that there had been some type of color restoration performed. It got a 7.5   I just never expected to have received a Restored version of this great comic. It is not a bad thing, but it throws my whole color schemes off... Blue--Yesllow--Green---, and now I get to add a --Purple. Oh well.. Such is life?

Going Crazy! GPA, CPG, Histories no help

Can't seem to find a correct appraisal of a CGC 9.8 and a 9.6 for Amazing Spider-Man #300 I have checked previous auction histories, as well as the GPA, Comic Price Guide (CPG), and other resources and still can't seem to nail down a price. All the data I see continually changes, as does the market.   I am slowly amassing my own set of HG Slabbed ASM, and Uncanny X-men. I should be receiving a total of 7 CGC graded books from my latest submissions over the next couple weeks. I am going cr

What the?

Annoying newbie question Hey I just registered with the cgc, and read everything about submitting my books, but I have one burning question. How the hell do I find the submission form, I can't find it anywhere throughout this website, and their office is closed due to it being the weekend and what not. Can someone tell me how to find the submission form or paste a link for me, gracious.   Zombie_Mitch

My Grail? perhaps a teaser..

I saw where someone had mentioned creating a Thread devoted to: My Holy Grail and/or grails   A thread pertaining to perhaps what I had to do in obtaining my (grail)(at this point in time at least, ) how I was able to obtain mine? Was it $$$ or was it Trade? Or was perhaps a combination of both?   My latest was my first ever 9.9, albeit it is a more modern Uncanny X-Men #444, but it was my first ever, and only 1 of 4 ever to be registered.
