New varietyt for Aurora Comic Scenes #187-140, Batman.

Could I have just discovered a new variety for a Batman comic? Well, it took me awhile to find this, it's been sitting in the collection for a year or two, but take a look at the picture below. When the Aurora Comic Scenes hoard started coming to the market I decided to get one copy of each. After getting 5 of the 10 issues I notice that the other five were not coming up for sale very often. I did a CGC pop. check and found that the Batman(15 graded), Tarzan, Tonto, Spider-Man, and Lone Ranger

I finally joined the club!

I entered my first graded comic yesterday. I have always referred to my wife as "Wonder Woman", even before we started dating some 20 years ago. I've also always liked to watch the Wonder Woman tv show when it was on. Though I have never been a real comic reader, I decided to persue this comic as my entry way into CGC. I entered a 9.8 copy of the 2006 edition of issue #21 in my registry yesterday. I now have two more graded issues on the way and have purchased dozens of raw books for my col

Gi joe #153

9.8 WP!! I'm doin' my best to try and get issues 150-155 of GI JOE in 9.8 WP's. So far I managed to get the hardest one (mainly due to price!) #155. I saw a 9.6 copy of #153 on ebay throughout the last couple of weeks, but really wanted to hold out for one of those 17 copies of 9.8 out there. Well a guy who I just got another comic from a couple of days ago put one up on ebay just in time for me to add it to my order, and he only charged me an extra penny in shipping! Hallelujah, baby!! I also

What do you do with your books?

Storage and display. I love my collection and it?s great to be able to view scans of all my books in the registry, but it?s not the same as seeing the actual comics in person. I?m curious what other people do with their collections. Some collectors out there have hundreds of books. Do all these books just get stored in comic boxes where they gather dust (figuratively), or do they get displayed somehow so they can be appreciated? Personally I like to display four books at a time (on my dresser)

G. I. Joe #155

9.8!! With only 13 of these actually available in this grade, I didn't think I was going to see one available any time soon. Then a few days ago one of them shows up on Ebay for auction w/ no reserve! I've recently come into some cash and am itching to spend it on some of my more desired acquisitions, so I focused on this beauty. Eventually I won it for just over $600!! Pricey, but worth it to me. G. I. Joe is one of my favorite 80's franchises, along with transformers, any x-series and Star W

Why I collect...

What is it about collecting comic books that attracts us to the hobby? People often ask me as a 37 year old, why I collect comics? Well, to me I find different reasons in this. One - I love the Silver age. I love opening a issue and observing the publishing date and can't help but wonder who else has read this issue. The fact that all the storylines from this era paved the way for what collectors read today. Two - The stories are timeless. Would Stan Lee realize that all the time he put i

Mission accomplished!

Best Champions set EVER Well i finally did it, after 2 and a half years of wheeling and dealing I completed the finest set in the world of Marvel's Champions series from the Bronze Age. It feels somewhat bittersweet because this mission has been consuming my collecting for a while and now I don't know what to do next... You can check out the set with descriptions & pics.

Mike Grell

is an old friend of mine - 15 years and counting now... and since he moved from across the river from me to about 100 miles south of me, we haven't touched base. Anyway, I was thinking about him over the weekend because he and his wife Lauri didn't make it to our annual winter gathering and when I checked my morning email there's an invite for me & mine to come down & spend the weekend at his new place. I feel unprepared; usually I bring something from his past to tease him with - l

Hello!

Hello all my name is Paul (aka)Phantom knight. I heard about the CGC via a current member and thought I'd give it a go. I love finding those rare jems that have fallen through the cracks, the more obscure the better. I'm a huge kirby fan. as well as collecting comics I also write and draw them. Paul

Green River or White Mountain?

Hmmmmm.... Well, that's a good question Crazy, but I don't think "obscure" is the right term. Both are pretty well known among serious Silver Age collectors. I think that it would be fair to say that the White Mountain pedigree is vastly more wide ranging and of generally higher quality than the GR pedigree. I've seen more examples of early Marvels from the White Mountain collection than from the Green River collection. What's nice is that both collections carry markers on them including

My comic book collections

I have been an collector for many years and most of my collections are somewhat interesting. My collections range from the silver, bronze and modern day. I have many interest, but comic art is the one that I treasure the most. I have something from every collection of comics read from the 1950's to Present day

Waiting

for my first submission to be graded... OK - so I am naturally impatient, particularly when I don't know the answers. I sent three packages in to be graded and I am eagerly waiting for my first set of grades. Right now I am showing one package Scheduled for Grading and the other two Verified...it's weird because I just grabbed some books, more or less at random, from the piles of stuff I have as 'I aught to get this graded some day' - so I sent some Marvel, some DC, some silver, some bronze,

Scan Theft Among Registry Members? - Sheesh, Now THAT is Cheesy!

Yep, it's not only on Ebay! I was perusing various registry sets when I came across a raw scan of Daredevil #10 in another registry set. The member's sets seemed to be filled with scans that didn't match the books registered. Now, I've heard of Ebay scammers using scans stolen from other auctions or websites to sell books they didn't actually own, but this is the first case I'm aware of where a registry member is using scans that are not his. I think that's pretty lame. BTW... here's a scan

Scan Theft Among Registry Members - Part 2

Yep, it's true. Below is a scan of my registry copy of Daredevil #10 before it was slabbed. The registry member to whom I refer has apparently loaded up his sets with loads of borrowed scans, as I recognized a couple of other scans he's using that he took from my website www.macartistry.com/greenriverpedigree which is a site devoted to the GR collection. I'm not going to mention the name of the other registry member because I want to give him a chance to clean up his scans. All I can say is

Dear Red

Love your Greeny FF's! Red you have a very special collection full of beautiful Green River pedigree's. I myself, am mainly an FF collector, and I'm only familiar with the FF registry sets. Other than your Greenies Red, I think Captain Tripps and CGC World are your competitors for the most pedigree's of an individual type. Captain Tripps, well, we all know what his set is all about, but CGC World has a collection full of beautiful White Mountains. I'm a late comer into the world of pedigree'

Super Duper Journal Entry. Dear journal, It has been a long time since my last entry.... Oh, wait a minute, I don't keep journal entries. Never have. And if you are reading this, shame on you, reading other peoples journals. I thought I could trust you to stay out of my computer. If you are still reading this, the proper authorities have been contacted and dispatched to your residence. Bet ya think twice about snooping in other peoples journals now huh?

Thank you Crazy C!

You're pedigree'd FF run is pretty dang nice! It's good to see a little activity here among the comic geeks... seems the coinees get all the action here in the registry. :-) Good to see a journal entry by Arcade (yes I read it, so call the cops if you want!). My GR collection is something I fell into about five years ago, and doesn't come close to Captain Tripps' monumental runs of the Pacific Coasts. CGCWorld's White Mountains are pretty awe inspiring too, as are Dr. Watson's growing colle

Updated Set of Scans for DC 80-Page Giant Green River Pedigree Registry Set

Not the highest rated set, but one of the more cohesive. This set of books presents 15 Green River 80-Page Giants all in one place. I'm wondering (besides collectors like Captain Tripps who rules with Pacific Coast pedigree sets), how many other registered sets contain as many books from one pedigree as this. If you have a set with ten or more books from one Gold or Silver Age pedigree... let's hear about it! As a bonus, I'm attaching a scan of my 16th Green River Giant...an unslabbed copy
