One More Auction Win

This was the second book I won in the last Comic Link auction, along with the ASM 71. Yet another Neal Adams cover, but interior work also. The purchase of these auction wins will be my last one for a while. I'm now on lay off from my job due to the Covid -19 crisis. I don't know how much of an impact this will have on the collecting industry, except to say that most books will now be going for lower prices than usual. I imagine several collectors will have to sell their cherished books to keep

Hip Diana Prince

Picked this up from World Wide Comics. A few of these books featuring the mortal, powerless Wonder Woman have nice covers that appeal to me, and this is one of them. Missed out on an awesome 9.2 issue 178 two weeks ago in the Comic Link auction, having been outbid at the last second. Also trying to find a high grade copy of 185. Enjoy.

Frazetta Greatness III

A nice pickup here from ebay. One of my favorites of Frank Frazetta's many Warren covers. Tough to find in the higher grades slabbed and when one does turn up, the price is usually quite steep. Fortunately, my best offer to the seller on ebay was accepted and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg. Enjoy.

Frazetta Greatness

One Of Many Covers Picked this up at one of my LCS. Always been a fan of Frank Frazetta and this cover has to rank as one of the best. Would have preferred a higher grade, still, this one presents the appearance of a 9.0. I will be posting more journals with some other Warren mags with his cover art when I acquire them. Enjoy. Who Owns This Book, And Are You Willing To Sell It?

An extremely hard to find issue of HOM. And it just so happens to be my favorite Neal Adams HOM cover. This book was listed on the Comic Link for sale section a few years back, along with other DC horror books belonging to the Mass. pedigree. After a while, the seller pulled all of them from the site. I'm interested in making an offer for it, since it's next to impossible to find on the market. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Completing My Neal Adams Collection

The end is nigh....... As I have stated in my bio, I have just a few more books to add to my registry. Problem is, some of the Neal Adams books I need are quite difficult to find slabbed. If anybody out there has the following graded at least 9.2: House Of Secrets 82,Phantom Stranger 5, Heart Throbs 120 and Creepy 14, then I'm buying if you're selling. X=Men 116

Picked this one up today from a LCS. Another nice dollar/point ratio here, the book being worth twice as much in points compared to the amount I paid. Enjoy.

Action Packed Neal

Picked this one up today at the Toronto Fan Expo. A backup story by Neal on something called the Human Target. I like the cover by Nick Cardy, depicting an "everyday life" scene. Nine more Adams books to go. Enjoy.

Vampirella 9

Won this in the recent Comic Link auction. Planning to concentrate on Marvels and Warren magazines for 2018. This book has a nice double panel cover with artwork by Wally Wood and Boris Vallejo. Also features interior work by Barry Windsor-Smith. Like the Defenders 5 from my previous journal, I got this book for dirt cheap. Enjoy.

Superman 234

Another book with Neal Adams cover work that I picked up on ebay today. Issue 233 is regarded as the classic Superman Adams cover, but I like this one just as well. And a beautiful looking 9.4 at that. Enjoy.

Defenders 5

Picked this one up the other day. Features the origin of the Valkyrie, a character who figured prominently in Thor Ragnarok. Got it for a cheap price too. Not the outrageous sum you'll find for this book on ebay for the same grade. Enjoy.

HOM 178

Just won this in an auction. An upgrade from the 9.0 I currently have. One of the few House Of Mystery issues with interior art by Neal Adams. And it's always nice to land a pedigree copy. Enjoy.

Flash 204

Just won this from the Comic Link auction. Had this one before in 9.4, but like many books in my collection I sold it during the pandemic. So here I've managed an upgrade.  One of several issues on this title Neal Adams did during the early seventies. Most of them were also in this same auction. Enjoy.

Fluctuating Values

It All Depends Where You Shop..... It never ceases to amaze me how one can accquire a certain book for a considerably cheaper price than what the next guy paid. For example, check out the Flash issues just won in the Pedigree Comics auction. Flash 120, CGC 8.5 sold for $206 and 127, 9.0, Western Penn, sold for $252. I've seen the same issues at the same grade go for much higher prices. Also, Flash 202, CGC 9.6, Pacific Coast, went for $100. The same book, same grade, and also a Pacific Coast c

Horror From Neal

Just won this in the Comic Link auction. A very nice cover by Adams with interior work by him and Berni Wrightson. Amazingly, a 9.6 in the same auction went for $1,300. More than a grand than I paid for this one. This is an upgrade from the 9.0 I have. Also looking to do the same with my 178 and 179. One of the very few with Neal's work interior-wise on this title, I think there was four or five in all. Enjoy.

Yellowjacket!

Won this just now in the Comic Link auction. A book that has jumped up in registry points recently - 750, to be exact. Don't know if the character will be appearing again in the movies. I'm just happy to have all those points. I had a CGC 9.4 up until three years ago, then sold it. That one had crm/ow pages, so I've managed an upgrade here. Got it for under $400 too. Enjoy.

What Happened?

I just put in my latest journal about Superboy 151 and despite going into my pictures file and adding the cover scan, it did not show up. Bummer! What gives?

Hopelessly Overpriced On Ebay

Some Sellers Need To Wake Up It never ceases to amaze me how some sellers on ebay set prices on their books and are convinced they will sell, no matter how many times they have to list them. Case in point: five CGC issues of the Neal Adams Tomahawks listed the other day graded at 9.4 or 9.6. The prices range from 499.95 to 649.95. This is the third time the seller has listed these books in the last four months. The prices have not changed, nor does he add the best offer option. Needless to say

The Tough Ones

The Books That Were The Hardest To Find Now that I am nearing the end of my collecting days, I have decided to list the ten books that were the most difficult to find in high grade. All are silver/bronze age and all but two feature artwork by Neal Adams. Here they are in alphabetical order: Batman 245, Creepy 14, DC 100 Page Super Spectacular 5, Detective Comics 397, House Of Secrets 82, Phantom Stranger 4, Star Spangled War Stories 134, Tomahawk 116, Vampirella 1977 Special NN and World's Fin

30,000 Points Attained!

Mission Accomplished! Due to the recent upgrades by CGC, I've reached my objective of 30,000 points on the registry. Nice to be at this level after two and a half years. There are still a few must haves I would like to add, such as Green Lantern 76, Batman 232 and Creepy 14. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Upgrading To The Nines

It Seems Under 9.0 Is Somewhat Unpopular Amoung The Big Spenders I'm currently on the hunt for better graded copies of a few Neal Adams books I've listed on the registry. These include Brave & The Bold 80, 82 and 85, Avengers 95, Strange Adventures 209, Hot Wheels 6 and Secrets Of Sinister House 10. Not that 8.5s are anything to sneeze at from this era - 1968-1973 - but why not grab the higher graded copies if you can afford them?

Superboy 151

A pickup from Heritage auctions the other day. A rather dramatic one by Neal Adams, probably the best of his Superboy covers. Of course, you know what's on the cover does not happen in the story. Unless it's one of DC's "imaginary tales". Oh well, whatever it takes to make the sale. Enjoy.

ASM 71

Won this in the current Comic Link auction the other day. Taking a bit of a break from the Neal Adams books that I'm currently going after. Always admired the artwork of John Romita and this is one of my favorite covers of his. A very nice 9.0 that looks more like a 9.4.

Restored Power Of Goliath

Won this in the recent Comic Link auction. I've had to sell several books due to the pandemic, which resulted in the loss of my job. Now I've re-acquired this one. Features an early appearance of the Collector.

Behold The Mandroids!

Just won this in the Comic Link auction. Probably the hardest one to find in high grade among the Kree/Skrull war issues, due to the black picture frame cover. Although here we take a detour from that storyline, as our heroes battle the mandroids. Surprised to see that my winning bid was under $250. Six more Adams books to go. Enjoy.
