Neal's Photo-Realism Gets Real A cool, partial photo cover by Neal Adams. Back in the silver and bronze age this type of art/photograph cover would turn up every now and then. This and Sub-Mariner 8 are some of the more well known covers in this regard. Don't care for that outfit worn by Iris Allen though. Adams Avengers Vs. Mandroids

Nice Black Picture Frame Cover Just won this in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. Somewhat tough to find in higher grades. A 9.4 here, strangely so, regarding the spine stress. Oh well, I'll take it! This story is part of the Kree/Skrull saga that went on for about nine issues, with Neal Adams doing the interior art on four of them. Moon Of The Wolf

Won this yesterday in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. A common theme in DC and Marvel comics during the 1970s was horror. Here we have an awesome example of the genre written by Len Wein and drawn by Neal Adams. Personally, I'm not a fan of covers with multiple panels, like this one. But that was par for the course with these DC 100 page super spectaculars. Now, if this had been a 20 cent issue, with the Adams artwork donning the entire cover, it would probably rank as my favorite on the Bat

Won this in the Comic Link auction that just ended. Yet another great cover by Barry Windsor-Smith. Again, this book is a re-acquisition to replace the 9.6 I sold during the pandemic. So in this case we're looking at a downgrade. But my winning bid for this book was a surprise, having secured it for under $250. Enjoy.

Aquaman 51

Just bought this one on ebay, the last of the three Aquaman issues I needed with Adams art on Deadman backup stories. I've decided to do something similar to what Krydel14 is doing with his $25,000 challenge. But on a much smaller scale. Counting down the Neal Adams books I need that have his interior artwork dated from 1967 to 1974, there are only eleven more books left that I do not have, either raw or slabbed. An Adams Cover Without Equal

Simply Awesome Won a CGC 9.0 Tomahawk 116 in the latest ComicLink auction, upgrading from the 8.0 I have. And it's hard to know where to begin when describing this cover. Neal Adams outdid himself here with this beautiful western culture clash illustration. Actually, it does not look so much as pencil work as it does a painting. Many Adams aficionados consider his Tomahawk covers the best work he's ever done and I would find it hard to disagree. A great pity that he did not do the interior art

Picked this one up on ebay yesterday. A cool cover for this issue that I've always wanted. This one is famous for the copies with the "green printing error". Had I acquired one of those in 9.4, it would have cost me an arm and a leg. Trying to finally concentrate on the Marvel books on my want list. A Nerve-Racking Situation

.....Or Getting In Over Your Head In the October Comiclink auction I put in bids for six books. I expected to be outbid on at least three of them, in the end I was outbid on two. The total for the four books I won? $1,318.21 including the shipping and buyer's premium. OMG! I sweated it out for about a week before getting an unsecured loan. Just won this in the current Heritage auction. A classic cover by Adams introducing one of Batman's most fearsome enemies. No doubt the most valuable Detective issue with Neal's interior work. Ten more Adams books to go. enjoy.

Picked this up on eBay the other day. There were a few other issues in this title with inking duties assigned to Neal Adams, but this is the only one where he did the complete layouts. And a pretty cool cover too! I'm unable to save the image from eBay. An upgrade from my previous copy, which was a 9.4.

Picked up this at my LCS. More registry points, anyways. Don't care for this new journal format. As the saying goes - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Noticed that there were very few journals lately, due to the comments being abolished, although temporarily. Enjoy the image of my first purchase in four months.

Great Book At A Great Price Picked this one up on ebay New Year's day. Yet another example of fantastic points/dollars ratio. Got it for dirt cheap, the points outweighing the dollars threefold in this case. Not a bad cover either! But then again, most of the covers from this issue up to 120 are awesome. Enjoy. RIP Herb

For Me, He was THE Hulk Artist Sad to hear the news about Herb Trimpe's passing. As a kid collecting comics in the 1970s, the Hulk was one of my favorite titles. I had just about every issue from 117 to 181, bought either as back issues or fresh off the spinner rack. (Too bad I didn't hold onto 181!) Just won this in the ongoing Comic Link auction. Finally, a Neal Adams book worth decent registry points - 1500 to be exact. Very early Adams work here on this straightforward cover. Green Lantern 89

A nice acquisition from ebay. This issue brought an end to the legendary run by Neal Adams regarding social comment that began with GL/GA 76. I'm trying now to pick up the other issues I need in this set. Have to do some serious saving if I want to buy a 9.0 or higher grade 76 one day. Actually, the stories continued briefly as back ups in Flash 217-219. Alas, then it would end for good. Enjoy.

Missed Out On A Minor Grail

Waited Too Long.... Recently missed out on a CGC 8.0 Heart Throbs 120 from 1969 on ebay. It was listed with a starting bid of $29.95 or buy it now price of $39.95. Someone else picked it up with about 2 days left before closing. The reason I'm transfixed with this issue is because Neal Adams did the cover art. Neal Adams doing work on a romance comic? That's right. About as rare as it gets for Adams. Anybody out there on the registry that may have bought this book? If so, I'm still willing to

Deadman Again

Picked this one up from High Grade Comics. I seem to be on a Neal Adams splurge right now. Like the Detective 402 I recently bought, this book is very tough to find due to the ultra dark green cover. Probably the toughest one to find on Neal's run on this title, along with issue 206. Nice to have a pedigree copy too. Would have preferred better page quality, but since this book is so hard to find, I was willing to look the other way. Enjoy.

Doing Something About My Points Situation

And Why Not The 1970s X-Men? Much to my chagrin, my ranking on the CGC points registry has always stayed within the 270-300 area. As everyone probably knows by now, I specialize in Neal Adams books from the late silver and early bronze age period. Problem is, so many of the books I have by Adams amount to peanuts when it comes to points. Unless you acquire the major titles with his artwork like Batman, Green Lantern and X-Men in ultra high grade, you are not going to move up in points very fas
