About this journal

Decided to create a journal of how it all started.  I've posted this before, but a journal would be more interesting, I would hope.

I was a collector back in the mid 80's to mid 90's.  The kid who had a subscription of Wolverine and Daredevil which I received in my mailbox wrapped in brown paper and squeezed in my parents mailbox. During that time of collecting, I was OCD about not folding the pages back on its end, but not to the level or actually preserving the books.  I had no knowledge of key books, 1st appearances, newsstand editions, etc.  Just a boy who liked reading the comic books.

I was collecting during the time of Image's start-up and grabbed #1 issues like everyone else, but eventually out of financial reasons and "growing up" I moved away from comic books.  Around 2010, If I can recall, I became introduced to graded comic books.  I started to look at the value of these books and reflected not only on my collection, which was in poor condition, but also remembering my Dad collected comics when he was young.

His collection unfortunately was destroyed by my cousins as he served in the military, but he remembers walking miles to get the new comics that were out.  This was around late 50's and through the 60's, I could only imagine what books he would have bought and their value now.  One character that he enjoyed reading and following was the Black Panther.  Upon hearing that, I decided if I'm going to get into this graded book hobby that's a character I would focus on.

Now the problem was that FF #52 is a high price book so that was out of my range.  I looked towards the Jungle Action series as the start of my collecting experience.  What I found out fortunately was that not many people on the boards showed interest in collecting these in high grade.  I looked at this as an opportunity to complete a set that would be "easy" to attain and wouldn't be on the radar.

I started with buying Jungle Action #5 and continued from there.  I've still haven't been able to complete the series as one issue has no 9.8 on the census and others are just difficult to find.  I'm still in the process of acquiring the rest of the books, but now I've learned just to be patient and eventually they may come up for sale.  Here are the books I've been able to acquire over the years and if you have a connection with any raw high grade issues I'm missing or a graded ones, point me in that direction.  Thanks for reading!
