Getting out of the hobby 2

Slight change in plans Upon the counsel of numerous people I have decided to stay in the hobby but only slightly. I will be getting rid of the majority of my comics and hanging onto 1 specific character. My son who is just under 2 years old has taken very strongly to my most beloved of characters. This characters name is Spider-man. I will sell everything I own minus these for the time being. I can remember the first time I picked up a Spider-man comic and I was instantly enthralled by t

Getting out of the hobby

Selling it all? Well, I have reached a point in my col, lecting where I can no longer afford to grade nor continue buying issues (new or back issues). I feel that if I cannot keep buying issues then I am no longer collecting and I am just storing or hoarding whichever is the prefered term. Plus, with another child on the way and us needing to find and move into a bigger home it seems one of my only choices is to liquidate my collection, this will also alleviate the need for extra storage space

Refocusing a collection

This could be tough I have decided that I am going to go through the ardious process of refocusing my collection. What I actually have posted on this registry, like many, is just a very small protion of my collection. Last time i checked I believe I had close to 3000 comics. It is not that I no longer enjoy these comics but really comes down to a money thing combined with how I like to collect. I am a completeionist when it comes to collecting. It urkes me to no end that some of the

Back to collecting and grading

Getting back to collecting and grading with a New Year Well, I have decided to start back into grading again. Last year I let me membership run up, stopped grading and downgraded how many comics I buy a week. My comics numbers are still low for buying but I have sent in 30 comics for grading. They are shipped and on their way back to me and I am content with the grades received. I have decided to try and focus on one set at a time for grading mainly which I think will help keep grading cos

Rethinking how I collect

High grade or Complete set I do believe that I will be changing how I am trying to collect certain comics. Like take my 30 cent price variant set for example... The only ones I have at the moment are either highest grade or second highest grade in exists minus one I got graded on my own. Now high grade comics are quit expensive and unfortunately with a new kid on the way and with the way the economy is going I can't afford to keep it all going with straight up high grades. So for the time be

Waiting

Impatient in PA Here it is Comic book convention season again, and the Grading has slowed to a crawl. I went to Wizard world Philly recently to submitt a buch of comics for signature series and also have some of those secret Invasion Con covers sketched on and submitted and now I have to wait for them to come back. I can't actually watch the progress of these comics because they were submitted on site and not through the website unfortunatley but I did submit some other comics just after com

30/35 cent variants

Today I start A Very Long Journey Today is the day that I made my first 2 entries of 30 cent variant comics. This should prove to be a very long and drawn out journey that will probably be completed just before I finish collecting all together. It has always been hard tyo find these comics and I am going to try and put together a complete list of highest or second highest comics before I am done. If the civil war Signature series I have started ( which is going great by the way) is any indi

Civil War

Here I come going for the top spot. I know alot of people are into getting older comics and filling in spots in there collcetions of bronze, silver, and gold age comics. Unfortunatley that can be very expensive and not everyone has comics that go back that far sitting around waiting to be graded plus they are very hard to find. Now me on the other hand I have decided to go for what I already have a ton of and is a much smaller set than some of these huge runs of comics that date back before
