Where oh where can it be?

Still working on my X-Men #143-300 set in 9.8 white page condition... I figured I would start in the 200 numbered issues, keys first... but one book I just can't seem to find is Uncanny X-Men #210... what the heck man? why is no one selling this book already slabbed in 9.8 white pages? I've been scowering the net for two whole months already and nothing, no listings, anywhere, period... arrrgh!!! very frustrating... very very frustrating. I guess i'll have to chance the raw copies I have t

What the *&$% Have I been Doing?

ok, I admit, I haven't been on top of my CGC game lately... first, I let my premium membership expire (in October) and have yet to renew it... second, I haven't submitted any new submissions since my last batch in August... third, I haven't purchased any new slabbed books in over 2 months... and four, I can't even remember when the last time was that I contributed a journal to the society... I admit, I have been a bad example of a memember haha... but, not all was done in vain... in that tim

Unpaid Item Bidders

Not a fan of them... If you don't have the money for an item, why bid on it or submit an offer? You are wasting everyone's time, not to mention, that there is probably another person that would purchase the item and actually pay for it! What really sucks is that now FeeBay no longer penalizes buyers they way they used to for non-payment. In the good ol' days, you were actually able to leave negative feedback for non-payment, now you can't, and the buyer's rating is no longer affected. If

Trade Duplicates or Sell Them? part 2

so i decided... that i was gonna let go of a few duplicate CGC's i have laying around... plus, i needed to pay myself back for the hulk 181 i just bought... so yesterday i posted to my ebay store (here comes the shameless plug, 'pdotcomics') a few CGC items... some of the highlights include: ultimate spiderman #1 direct "red" edition CGC 9.8 amazing spiderman #300 CGC 9.4 new mutants #98 CGC 9.8 new mutants #98 CGC 9.6 (2 copies) x men #210 CGC 9.6 x men #212 CGC 9.8 x men #22

Time to Refocus My Habbits

what have I created? When I started down the path of getting books graded by CGC, I initially had decided that I would get books graded for resale (obviously) but that I would also try to build runs for my own personal collections. I have held true to form on the first part but it is the second that I now realize I haven't been doing as much as I should. As I was cleaning house preparing for this season's thanksgiving get-together at my house, I started realizing that I have a lot of books

Thanks for Ruining My Weekend USPS

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! i finally had one of my CGC invoices mailed out on 03/05/12 and received the confirmation email from CGC with the invoice's tracking number. i checked the package's status today on USPS.com and to my horror, the status shows as "Missent" and the description that the package was misrouted. WTF!!! this is not at all what i wanted! so where is it? on a plane to kilamazoo? did the train it was on derail, thus incenerating the books? did space aliens co

Take A Deeper Look At the New 2012 Fees

it's not just a price hike people.... Since this is the new popular thread, here's my input. I understand a revision to the grading fees: $1, $2, and such to the grading teirs. that's understandable since it's been a while since they revised it and they probably need the additional funds to support operating fees and to hire additional staff (per the careers section of cgc's site they are currently hiring). However, the handling fee makes no sense. that's a slap in the face. its a charge

Submissions and More Submissions

the wait is over, kinda... just recently got back my Long Beach Comic Con and Nuke the Fridge Stan Lee signing submissions back. 10 books in total, thought I would share: Stan Lee signed: Amazing Spider-Man #122 9.4 Amazing Spider-Man #194 9.2 New Mutants #98 9.4 Venom: Lethal Protector (Black Error cover) 9.4 Long Beach Comic Con: Flash #1 1:200 sketch variant signed by Brain Buccellato 9.8 Uncanny X-Force #1 Deadpool sketch by Marat Mycheals 9.8 Amazing Spider-Man #606 sig

Spend Now or Spend Later?

I'm a little torn... should i spend money on getting more books graded now? or wait a few weeks until the Anaheim Comic Con, see what's there, and then get my books graded? i've been sitting on close to another 50 books that i would like to get "slabbed", but with ACC around the corner, that's money that could potentially be used on other purchases for my collection. however, that would mean that the books i already have will have to wait another month or so before submission. ahh! may

Should I trade duplicates or sell them?

I have duplicates of some of my cgc books in the registry... and I would like to aquire: Amazing Spiderman #238 in CGC 9.8 WHITE pages Amazing Spiderman #300 in CGC 9.8 WHITE pages Incredible Hulk #181 in CGC 9.2 (or better) WHITE pages Uncanny X-men #210 in CGC 9.8 WHITE pages and I am thinking about releasing the following from my grasp because I either have more duplicates or better graded copies: Amazing Spiderman #300 in CGC 9.4 WHITE pages New Mutants #98 in CGC 9.6 WHITE p

Reflecting on 2009 and looking into 2010

It all went by too fast... Now that 2009 is over, I can finally look back and take notes on the year that was. For me, I was able to get my little eBay upstart off the ground (pdotcomics). It did pretty well with decent sales per month, but the goal for 2010 is definately to improve 10 fold. I also had decent sales when selling at local LA area flea markets and swap meats to unload a lot of bulk dolar items, so i'll look to increase exposure at those outlets as well more often when I can

Picture Friendly Grading Site

I couldn't help but wonder... if there is a "picture friendly" website or blogpost out there on the 'net that will give hobbyist a better understanding on how the accurately grade comics and some of the commonly used terms when grading comics. for example, it would be helpful to a newbie if they could visit a site a see visuals of different bindery tears, or the different degrees of foxing, page whiteness, etc... just reading about it in the different grading qualifiers doesn't allow a collec

No Deadpool Set?

While editing my sets... I needed to add a few Deadpool CGC's to the registry... lo and behold, there's no Deadpool set registry! what the duece!?! as popular as this guy is in 2009, you would think that a registry set would be up for his titles/issues... i'm sure he's the most commonly submitted character to CGC right now? hmmm... i'm not saying that he's my favorite, I just thought that CGC would at least be up to curve by this point...

My Walking Dead Con Submissions

Ok, so officially it was called San Diego Comic-Con International... but might as well been called Walking Dead Con 2012. Everywhere you looked, there was something Walking Dead related, so it was only natural that my largest CGC submission of the year would be Walking Dead heavy. 2 submissions, all signature series, 33 books in all. Thankfully, both invoices have been graded and the grades appear online. Won't know when i'll actually have the books in my possession, but i'll be patient.

MY response to David Swan and clouded9

from the suppliers point of view... I could care less what people collect on their own dollar. If people, for whatever reason, want to collect issues of Youngblood #1, it's my duty to supply it. If you wanted to collect rocks, then I would have a bag full waiting for you. The key is how much are you willing to spend. The reason why there are so many issues of Amazing Spider-Man #252 and #300 graded is because the people have decided that they are willing to spend real money on those issue

My Next Submission

6 more going in... these are the newest books i've submitted for grading and my estimate grades... only sending 6 books, hey, its a recession haha: Amazing Spiderman #239 (9.2) Batman: The Killing Joke (9.8) Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (9.4) Superman (vol 2) #75 (9.8) Uncanny X-Men #211 (9.6) Uncanny X-Men #244 (9.6) once they get "graded" i'll post the actual CGC grade... it'll be fun seeing how close i am with my standards as compared to CGC...

My Modern Grail Quest is Complete

I buy a lot of books... As someone who buys and sells comics on the side and runs a small comic business, I have to keep buying in order to keep selling. As such, I come across a lot of books. Some you see all the time, others not so much. Because I am a huge Batman fan, my personal collection currently consist of Batman books (among other things and keys) and my personal goal is to eventually obtain every Batman book ever published. So far, I have every Batman book from 250 - current, sa

My Latest (and biggest) Purchase

I have a small group of people... that keep a look out for deals for me since I can't be everywhere 24/7. so this past monday my pops came through big time, as we were able to secure roughly 4000-4500 comics from another dealer that does not deal in comics, for an 'undisclosed' amount... i barely have gone through the lot, but its awesome with tons of CGC 9.6/9.8 potential and a good variety... its mostly copper age thru current... of what i have seen so far, there's complete runs of Fanta

My Grades Are Posted...

and its a mixed results feeling... Amazing Spiderman #239 (9.2) / CGC = 9.2 Batman: The Killing Joke (9.8) / CGC = 9.4 Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (9.4) / CGC = 9.2 Superman (vol 2) #75 (9.8) / CGC = 9.6 Uncanny X-Men #211 (9.6) / CGC = 9.8 Uncanny X-Men #244 (9.6) / CGC = 9.6 so as you can see, two I thought were 9.8s were not, but, my UXM 211 is... which is great cause I am secretely trying to buy raw copies of UXM #'s 201 - 222 and put together a 9.8 run (opps did I just

My First Submissions

So I finally decided to send in some of my collection... in total I sent in 13 books, including ASM 122, 129, 298, and 300... i'm hoping to get some pretty high grades on these, as they appear in the 9.0 and higher range uncertified... so i'll keep my fingers crossed ! I'll add these to my registry once they've been graded

My First 9.9

I finally own one... After 3 years of submitting countless books and never receiving that seemingly unattainable grade, opportunity arose and I took advantage. I finally went out and purchased a book in cgc 9.9 that I felt was worth it. It was also the only Uncanny X-Force #1 J. Scott Campbell variant in 9.9 condition according to the cgc census. So why this book? For starters, I happen to like the new Uncanny X-Force series. I think it is pretty well written and the cast of characters b

My Collector's Society Coupon pt 2

so i've decided... the three lucky books were the Hulk 181 that i recently aquired, my copy of Batman 232, and the Amazing Spider-Man 40. i'm thinking they'll grade out as: Hulk 181 - 9.0 - ACTUAL CGC GRADE = 8.5 Batman 232 - 8.0 - ACTUAL CGC GRADE = 8.0 Amazing Spider-Man - 6.0 - ACTUAL CGC GRADE = 5.0 not really the highest grades of these books but i think they'll be solid additions to the collection until i can afford to purchase upgrades given i'm not a multi-millionaire (yet, he

My Collector's Society Coupon

I must admit that... one of the main reasons i paid the membership was to get the coupon for 3 free gradings... the first time i used my coupon (last year) i don't think i used it too effectively and made a rookie mistake by submitting a modern tier book in the batch of three... this time, i won't make that mistake again. this time i have a new dilemma though... i have been amassing bronze and silver books all year to use my coupon on but i don't think that they'll acheive the "super high gr
