It is all by preference..really!
To make a long story short...pedigree is nothing more than having a history behind your comic book. You know who had it before you. Otherwise the book goes from manufacturer to book stand to who knows who until it winds up being sold at auction, yard sale or anywhere else.
We personally like pedigrees due to the fact not many have owned them before us and we know where they come from. We like file copies most of all because they have never left the publisher.
He always buys 9.6 or better, but if he gets a 9.2 or 9.4 he grits his teeth and shudders with fright.
But lately the Col. has been looking at 7.0's and 8.0's without even wincing. Lately Jeremy has gotten hooked on Ultimate Spiderman...that is all he wants to buy. Robert has been stuck in a rut...only buying raw Batmans. As for me I have just been sitting back and watching my nutty family enjoy their separate parts of our family collecting. Since I am a mature woman, I enjoy the golden age wi
When we started in 2008, we were just going to collect for 10 years.
But we have gotten so involved with comics I doubt we will ever quit. The boys said that will keep collecting long after we are gone. At first it was more for an investment, but now...they have grown on us and the comics have become part of the family. Though they take up space...they don't eat or use up utilities...but they are a part of each one of us. We all have our favorites but each of us gets a thrill when one of us get
This season we are blessed that our whole family has been together. Not looking forward to 2011 holiday season though! Due to the fact that Robert and Jeremy will be in Afghanistan next year serving their country.
Both of our sons will be leaving in February 2011, and both wish and hope that 2011 will be our biggest and best collecting of comics ever (so far!). Between what we get graded and what we collect they are hoping we have over 500 CGC graded by the time they get back in March 2012. Ri
As most of you know, we started collecting CGC's in 2008. Most of those were basically bronze to modern age.
In February of 2010 we started buying golden and silver age, mostly file copies. We have continued the year in golden and silver age. We have been buying more raw comics (for slabbing later) than we have in the past. Now guess it is time to getting back to evenly buying bronze, golden. and silver to help finish completing sets. This coming year in 2011, going cut back on our buying and
Its been fun, wish we could spend alot more!
As of today we have 170 slabbed comics, most are highest on censes, also have acquired more than 3000 raw comics alot of those being golden & silver age. It is so exciting to buy , even though it may exceed our budget, but it is also exhilarating when that box is up against the door waiting for us to just tear into it and enjoy our new member of our comic family. We did better than we expected this year, we ranked #1 on three different sets. Wit
This last week we got our first pedigrees off EBAY. 2 File copys, a Crippen & A Crowley.
During superbowl sunday I caught a great deal on the pedigrees. When I told the boys they were in awe that I was able to get such a deal on several pedigree comics. Judy calls them her "Precious"; like Spegal from LOTR. It has been an EPIC struggle to determine whos "Precious" they are, since the boys now claim them as thier "Precious". And I have been left out of the "Precious" circle, even though I f
Roberts first journal.
Col. found some pedigrees and now they are my precious. Until mama got and equalizer and took back my precious. For those of you who dont know what an equalizer is its a big stick in the form of a baseball bat. Mom said we maybe bigger than her now but she has equalizers. She had the pedigrees framed and hung on the wall. Now I have to view my precious on her walls. Its a family collection, all except my precious.
We started collecting in June 2008 since then we have got over 2000 raw comics & 143 CGC's
My wife teases me a lot that I am addicted to comics now. She says if I miss a day with out buying any I have withdrawal symptoms . She has a lot of room to talk she is just as bad about it as I am. I have a lot of fun collecting with my family. My wife & my two grown sons collect with me. The boys are so busy they dont have a lot of time for the collection most of the time, but my wife & I m
Col. has become so addicted to buying comics that if he goes a day without buying one he has major withdrawls. It has been two weeks since his last fix. He bought a CGC XMEN #212 9.6 as his last purchase.
The Col. shakes, rattles, and rolls. He is agitated easily and keeps looking for more money to get his fix on. As of recently money has been tight so he hasn't been able to buy like he NEEDS to keep him sane and put together. So if anyone out there knows of a good CGC or Comics Anonymous p

As most of you know we started collecting CGC's last year, up till now we have not had any graded. We always bought them already graded.
We sent 15 raw comics in for grading, most came out as we expected, some a grade lower. So I guess for not being pro graders we did not do so badly. After the New year we will be sending in a lot more to be graded so wish us luck! Col Cauley
It was the best we have ever done on Ebay. Most everything we got was for less than 9.2 Overstreet guide prices.

I have read bought sold & traded comics since 1968. I never thought about collecting till 2008 when my boys wanted to start.
We started to collect comics early in 2008, by mid 2008 we started with CGC's now thats all we collect. Over the years I have bought entire collections to resale but never thought of collecting myself, wish I had. We would have a great collection by now if I had. I am retired now & spend most of my time looking for new CGC's or sorting comics. I still buy complet
