Zombie Casserole

Or this isn't the Comic Journal you're looking for So here I was this morning (Saturday November 3rd) waking up fifteen minutes before my alarm goes off and after only three hours of sleep. I promised a friend that I would be by to help him film his little "love child". You see as much as I have a distinct love for Comic books, his adoration is for Zombies, and not necessarily Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead. I have purchased a few of those and if you take a look at my set, those are the ones I

Your Books are Safe

The best lined from The Never Ending Story My books are on the way. I had one invoice marked safe for the past week I was just waiting for the second one to catch up. I sent ten books in to get signatures. Some stayed the same grade....some dropped. Of course I am not happy about those that dropped but that can be addressed later. My New Mutants #15 was signed by Chris Claremont. This issue of mine is utterly worthless but I paid to have it graded then I paid to have it get signed and graded a

WOW! It's Shipped

or I really can't believe it. I was shocked when I got the e-mail saying something was being shipped to me. It has been a long time that CGC shipped me anything that I just figured I had a spam e-mail. I was curious though, I knew my New Mutants #54 was graded, I knew it was only a matter of time before they would ship it, I just didn't think it would be so quick. I turned over the books at the NYCC to be part of the signature series. I brought none books total. One book is going through Deser

WOW! It's Graded

or WOW!!! It's Graded I didn't expect it; I just figured I would do my daily check and see about my New Mutants #54. I had this turned over at the NYCC earlier this month. I figured I would chance the signatures of Mike Mignola and Chris Claremont, much like Wallace did with his Marvel Graphic Novel #4. I expected to wait another week before I got impatient with them since I did pay the extra ten dollars for the fast track. I was charged on the 17th which I considered day zero. My Journal Five

Would I Hitchhike?

Or Starting my Journey to ECCC LOn the way to the airport I was taking my time. During the whole twenty mile plus trip I was being passed by every single car, but one. My car, as trusty as she has been, is on her last wheel. I fear, if it was a hundred and fifty years ago, as well as a horse, I would have to do what was considered the humane thing at the time and put her out of her misery. By the way, it is illegal to shoot a car in my hometown. As I drove I knew each pothole I swerved around,

Worth Vs. Value

Is the value of a graded comic book equal to what it's worth? And Vice Versa. Action comics #1 in a 9.0 White Pages was auctioned off for 3.2 million dollars on eBay. Incredible Hulk #181 in a 9.9 with white pages sold for $150 thousand dollars courtesy of Comic Link. A perfectly graded copy of New Mutants #98 peaked at $15,449 dollars, also through Comic Link. Three comic books from three different eras reaching dollar amounts never heard of before. But in all three cases, is the value greate

Worth Pressing?

Pressing the Issue http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/JournalDetail.aspx?JournalEntryID=7387   Ironing out the Details http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/JournalDetail.aspx?JournalEntryID=7407I have an Amazing Spider-Man, #129 graded by CGC. You would think the really cool thing about this comic book is, that it has the first appearance of not only the Punisher, but the Jackal as well, and although true, wrong. The special thing about this specific book is that I bought it in the

World's Finest

Originally written for PopCultureUncovered with the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie to be released. I hope I did it justice. Batman and Superman: Truly the World's Finest. As a Marvel comic book fan it might be difficult for me to say this, but my first introduction to the World's Finest team wasn't the Fantastic Four, Avengers, or the X-Men; it was the super duo of Batman and Superman. Even though I wasn't around for their first comic book meeting, I was introduced to them in 1981. It im

World's Finest

or, Yes, I Bought DC Comics too. A comic I had and read over and over was none other than World's Finest #271. This comic boasts of the retelling of the Superman-Batman Team. Did you notice it wasn't a number one issue either? This issue is dated September, 1981. This is a full two years and seven months before I picked up that fateful book that had me never look back. What makes a reader of comics choose between one and the other? Why is the line drawn so distinctively between Marvel and DC?

Working on the Holidays

Not just Thanksgiving but Christmas too. The one thing about serving food on the holidays is that people feel sorry for you. I am hoping this emotional breakdown will release them of their money and add some to the tip when they eat, yes we are open On Thanksgiving day. There are a few New Mutants in a 9.8 that I want to purchase?not to mention a few Civil War issues. Of course if I were to try to get the Civil War issues then I go outside my parameters. I should continue to keep going after a

Working for Comics

Who needs a paycheck? Twice in my life I worked in a comic book shop. I was paid an hourly wage (quite decently I might add) and pretty much spent it all at the comic book shop I worked at. It was at these times I tried new books (writers, artists, and assorted back issues). I don?t have that luxury anymore. I did this when I was younger and it was only a part time job, but those four to six hours a week were a blessing. Not only did I work in a comic book shop, I got paid for it (did I mentio

Work, Sleep, Pay Rent, and Buy Comics

Do you know how many more comic books I could buy if I could just give up sleep? Working nights hinders the ability to enjoy the day, but every once in a while I escape from my humble abode and walk out into the sky to go pay my rent. This slight escape allows me to bask in the sun and try to darken my pale skin. I make this trek every month and I follow this by creating a budget on how the next month is going to be. This pre-planning helps me collect the comic books I enjoy so much. I am at t

WonderCon Unfulfilled

Sometimes the small conventions are better I was a five year attendee when I reported on my first Wizard World. This helped me know what to expect and what to look for. At my first NYCC I was in awe and if my life was a musical I would morph into Jack Skeleton and sing "What's This?" Never being at a WonderCon I was happy enough to read the articles of my fellow contributors. Between extra hours at work, sleeping, preparing for my first vacation in over ten years, and treating myself to the P

Wizard World: Day One

Come on in the water is fine. This year the main convention is located in the newest edition to Philadelphia's convention center of off Broad Street. I remember in years past, waiting outside, to get in thinking what if it rains? Last year they rectified that by having the line snake up and down a hallway before entering another room. This also helps in the heat. This year they rectified the line problem by the mass amount of space. The con started off slow for me, I made a promise to someon

Wizard World Stan Lee Q&A

Or this man can entertain I knew right after anything I do with CGC I was going to get a picture if me and Stan Lee. I was going to do it by myself but asked my best friend, who is promoting For_Zombies, and asked him if he would join me. He didn't have to wait in line nearly as long as I did. Once the picture was done I purchased a few comic books and made sure I had enough time for the Stan Lee panel. This was my third one, the second here in Philadelphia. This year Stan wasn't late. His e

Wizard World 2013: Going Green

Or what about what Lee K gave me? I did not expect Bob Mcleod to be there on Thursday. I figured this would be the day to walk around and figure out where everyone was at, but there he was, sitting at his table, drawing. I cracked a few slabs in hopes that not only his signature would be placed upon the cover, but they would retain the coveted 9.8. I also decided, courtesy of Lee K to have a nice copy of the New Mutants Annual #4 signed by the creator of my favorite title. I knew this would ha

Wizard World 2012 with Stan Lee

SO much with so little. I met Stan Lee, twice, times two. OK Technically I met and shook the man's hand twice. I got one book with his signature. I picked up a Daredevil #3 for this honor, which means I only need a number two to finish the series. I of course took the photo op and have so much to write about I don't want to get into everything in one journal. I had another 18 books graded which I was going to stay at ten. Let's face it, if you are reading this chances are you might just be as

Wizard World 2012 Prequel

Getting ready for four days off of work The first day of Wizard World 2011 had the dates for Wizard World Philadelphia 2012. After taking off from work for the 2011 con, I requested off for the 2012 event right after I returned to work. I was told to remind them when the dates got closer, so I did, in January, March, April, and yet again in May. Once those days were assured I purchased my Stan Lee tickets. Mind you I was already going to the event for free. I am trying to interview the man th

Wizard World 2011 Part 2

Why didn't I bring more money? Last year at Wizard World I wrote a journal for each day of the show. One of them I wrote while I was at the show itself. This year was different. I ?tweeted? the event under the moniker @CGCLee for Comicbooked.com and amassed information for future articles. I interview Mike Grell from Green Arrow fame amongst other comic books throughout the years (Thank you to Lee K from the registry for the help on that one.) I interviewed Brad Guigar (http://www.evil-inc.com

Comics, Signatures, and CGC In years past all I did was go to fill holes. I would write a list out and do my best to complete them. This year was going to be different. I had one book on my list, one book I would be looking for. I also was fortunate enough to have my interview with CGC. The plethora of information they gave me was just too much for one Journal entry so I plan on quite a few. The main reason I was able to go in was because I went as ?Press?. This was the first time I did this a

Wizard World 2010 Part 4

What do you mean it's over already? I planned on bringing only ten comics to get graded and I brought 19. I planned on bringing some books for a pre-screening and opted not to(and I am glad I didn?t bring them). I became closer to completing my run of Daredevil Vol. 1. I even picked up quite an amount of Submariner Vol. 1, and I even purchased a copy of Avengers #57 after three years of searching for the price comparative to the condition (still paid too much but they are there to make money).

Wizard World 2010 Part 3

The second day of spending continues Here it is Day Two of Wizard World 2010. I received my books back from CGC and did the unthinkable and gave them four more. I am also starting to rethink giving them a fifty lot for a pre-screen. I am going to have to rethink my expenses (I did spend a lot). If I do the math correctly if all would return with a grade of 9.8 then my final ticket would be $850 pre shipping costs?not to mention insurance. I could give the attitude that it is only money. Wizard World 2010 Part 2

Here I am at the convention I am sitting here at Wizard World 2010. I am taking a break from my wanderings even though I already had lunch with my Parents. They live in the area so it is also a good drop off point for some of the books I bought. I don?t know how much I plan on still buying because I feel somewhat let down. It might be because they do not have as many panels as they did last year. Marvel and DC seem to have decided it isn?t even worth being here. I would have hoped that would h

Wizard World 2010

After another year it's finally here It is the currently the night before the convention. Wizard World Philadelphia 2010 is finally here. I sit typing away with the eleven books from ?My ten to get graded? both parts 1 and 2 on the table. The one book I am having trouble grading is my copy of New Mutants #15. This book has followed me through the years. Even when I had to place the majority of my collection in storage I still had this book with me. The grade will be low and I don?t mind tha

Wizard World : Working a Booth

Or...and... The one great thing about knowing people that have booths is you have a place to leave your stuff. The one bad thing about knowing people that have booths is they can ask you to watch their booth. I'm sitting here at one in particular while the two are checking out a panel. I know a small bit about their production but I'm mostly just winging it. Fortunately I was there to help film so I know the basis of the projects. I can sit and relax until someone looks interested in it.
