About this journal

I have two creative projects I will be discussing in this journal.

The first is The Crimebusters, a new comic series I am writing and drawing. Picking up where Boy Comics left off, The Crimebusters #120 is set in the fall of 1956, with Chuck Chandler — aka Crimebuster — returning to Curtiss Tech for his junior year of college. As always, though, intrigue and mystery abound, as Chuck is reluctantly forced to team up with girl reporter Trixie Trouble to investigate the shocking death of a beloved professor. This is my first comic book, so it's a real learning process trying to make it; I will be detailing that process here. I hope to have the issue complete by the end of March, with the goal of heading to Kickstarter in April for a May publication date. We'll see how it goes though!

The second project I have is the Classic Comics Forum Podcast, where I discuss classic comic book runs. I'm aiming for an episode a month at this point, and will provide updates whenever new episodes become available.

Thanks for reading!

The Crimebusters - just 5 days left!

A little update here. In the week since we passed $1000, we've pretty much hit a full stop. I think the amount has only gone up by $26 in the last week, with just two new backers. But I had heard that's how these things go, so while it's a bit disappointing, it's not surprising. I am still occasionally getting new "followers' - these are people who have asked Kickstarter to remind them about the project when there are two days left - so it's possible some of those people will back at the end.

The Crimebusters Launch Party

For those who might have missed it, The Crimebusters #1-3 is now live on Kickstarter! And thanks to all your support, we've hit the initial goal, so thank you. I really, truly appreciate it so much.  Still two weeks to go in the campaign, though, and I'm hoping to bring in some new readers, and bring back some old readers, so I'll be announcing the first stretch goals tomorrow. In the meantime, I did a live launch party on YouTube. If you missed it live, you can watch the reply now!

The Crimebusters #3 three page sneak preview

Hello, friends! I'm hard at work on The Crimebusters #3, so I thought I would share a sneak preview up the upcoming issue. Here's the first three pages. The forums here are compressing them slightly, so they look a tetch fuzzy, but don't worry, they are crisp and clear in real life.

Here's my CGC "unboxing" video

I made a video where I show the results of all 5 variants of my comic, The Crimebusters #1, that I sent into CGC. Results were mixed! But it was a good learning experience, particularly just trying to figure out how the submission process works when you are sending in your own signed books. The answer is: it's confusing!

The Crimebusters #1/120 - Kickstarter Exclusive Legacy Number Variant

The Kickstarter will launch two weeks from tomorrow! Over the next week or so, I'll be revealing the three variant covers. Here's the first one! This is the Kickstarter Exclusive Legacy Number Variant - this will be available at the same price as the regular cover, but will only be available as a Kickstarter reward; I won't be selling any copies outside of Kickstarter. So if you like this one, get it while it's hot! Of course, this is an homage to Flash Comics #92 by Carmine Infantin

Back issue finds, and the best storylines ever!

I've been a busy beaver, buying comics and making videos about those comics, so I've got a batch of new videos for you today. First, here are two haul videos where I show off the stuff I've been picking up on ebay during the pandemic:         And then in this one, I discuss some of the my favorite storylines in comics history:

The Crimebusters #2/121 - first look

The Kickstarter has ended and I'm just waiting for the copies of The Crimebusters #1 to arrive from the printers! If anyone missed the Kickstarter and wants a copy or copies, let me know and we'll figure something out when they arrive! In the meantime, I'm keeping busy by working on #2! The second issue is called "The Secret of the Ghost Bride." It features Chuck and Trixie investigating a haunted house. With a twist: there might be some time travel involved, thanks to the surprise ret

The Crimebusters #120 (#1) - Trixie Trouble Mysteries Variant Cover

Here's the next of the variant covers for the first issue of my new comic, The Crimebusters, launching on Kickstarter June 11.  Since I am planning to do a Boy Comics variant cover every issue starring Crimebuster, I thought it would only be fair to also do a variant cover every issue featuring his new partner, Trixie Trouble. So I'm going to do a variant every issue re-imagining the story as a classic young adult mystery novel. Here's the first of the Trixie Trouble Mysteries variant cover

The Crimebusters Kickstarter - final 48 hours

Hey there! We're inside the last 48 hours, so I have composed another update (well, a couple really since last time I posted here).  I also just wanted to remind everyone that may be interested that this Kickstarter is going to end shortly, so if you do think this is a comic you'd be interested in, now is the time! Most of the variant covers will be printed in very small numbers, and the Kickstarter Exclusive Variant Cover in particular (which is an homage to Flash Comics #92) is going

The Crimebusters #120 (#1) - Boy Comics Variant!

Here's the final variant cover for the first issue. Of course, the whole point of this originally was to make new issues of Boy Comics, so there has to be a cover with the Boy Comics logo and numbering. And there is!       Here's a look at all four covers for this first issue. sorry for the slight blurriness, the site here automatically squeezes the image to a certain size like it or not:         Less than a week until the Kickstarter on Ju

The Crimebusters #120 (#1) - The Final Countdown!

Just a few days left until this thing launches on Kickstarter on June 11. In my latest project blog, I discuss the printing process, getting my Kickstarter campaign ready to launch, and the big news of the day: the first copy has arrived!! Just back from CGC...

Cross-posting this from the main forum, because I'm just too excited to keep it to myself. I just got this back from CGC - it's the first issue blank variant of my self-published comic The Crimebusters, which I then signed and sketched with an homage to Archie #50, starring my character Trixie Trouble.  When I learned that artists can submit signature series books and act as their own witness, I had to try it!

The Crimebusters #1/120 - big news!

Big news!! The first issue is off to the printers for proofing! I'm totally stoked! I've also been wrestling for awhile with the numbering for this first issue. I really, really want to keep the legacy numbering from Boy Comics, but at the same time, I know there are some (weird) readers who may not even give the series a try if it's got a #120 on the cover. So... I've decided to just print copies with both numbers and let people choose whichever number they want. To be honest, I'm not s

Merry Christmas from Wonder Woman 84!

I've been busy doing a bunch more videos, including my reaction/review of Wonder Woman 84:       I also did this video about Christmas specials, especially from Archie:       And I celebrated my wedding anniversary, so I decided to do a quick look at three anniversary issues that I particularly like:

The Crimebusters #3 interviews, and a look at my complete run of Boy Comics!

Howdy, folks!   Just a couple quick updates. Firstly, there's just under 72 hours left in the Kickstarter for the third issue of my comic book series, The Crimebusters, so if you were planning on checking it out but haven't gotten around to it yet, now's the time!   I also have a couple interviews to share with yous. I've been churning out the YouTube videos, so there's a bunch to see on my channel, but I thought I'd just highlight these two.   In this video, I spend 5x as much as I ever have for a comic and acquire one of my personal grails:       And in this one, I start a new series called Origin Stories: The Comics That Shaped Us where I interview comic book fans about their origin story as a collector, though the lens of the 10 individual comics that had the bigge

Star Wars podcasts! YouTube shenanigans! Actual CGC related stuff! Face it, this one has everything!

It's been a little while since I posted an update, because I've been too busy doing stuff to talk about the stuff I've been doing! Since this is the CGC forum, I'll start with a video I made about the process of trying to submit my own comic, The Crimebusters, to CGC. Let's just say it's been very confusing, to the point where multiple CGC reps have seemed almost as confused as I am. The main point of confusion seems to be that CGC has divided their services into two totally separate a

The Crimebusters #2 - convention report

Good news, I have completed the initial art for the main story for The crimebusters #2! We're still on track for a Kickstarter launch at the end of January. I also just did my final show of the year, a three day affair last weekend. I sort of lost my shirt on my table, however, the weekend was saved from a financial perspective when I somehow found a copy of Strange Tales #110 for $10. I also met some cool creators doing their own books, and a lot of cool fans, so overall it was a good expe
