More Heavy Metal Jack

I love it! These blacklight posters were sold by Heavy Metal magazine at the last SD convention. They sold so well that more were made and sold from the web site. This is a better look at the wraparound cover by Jack Kirby and Mike Royer! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Heavy Metal Kirby

It is about time! The art of Jack Kirby was featured in Heavy Metal magazine issue 276...only 26 years after his death. The issue is filled with his magnificent Lord Of Light theme park designs, which were used by the CIA to help free American hostages held in Iran in the late 1979. The plan was featured in the movie Argo, but the Kirby part of the film was edited out unfortunately. The magazine also has this beautiful wraparound cover! I submitted two copies of the variant cover and both came

Darkseid/Metron vs Thanos

Who's your daddy? The first full appearance of Darkseid (3rd total) is the first issue of Forever People. Three weeks later the first issue of New Gods hit the stands with the first appearance of the real father of Thanos Metron.       JKirbyfan To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Darkseid vs Thanos

Kirby vs Starlin Garland is correct that Darkseid (Dark-Side) is the original heavy. His first appearance is Jimmy Olsen 134 dated Dec 1970. Thanos was born in Feb 1973 in the pages of Iron Man 55. Also, Jim Starlin stated more than once that Metron was the model for Thanos. He used the same look again in Dreadstar in the form of The Lord High Papal, so Jack Kirby and his New Gods are the gift that keeps on giving!               JKirbyfan To see old comments for this Journal entr

Miller Time!

More than just Kirby! This is a dealer only 3D promotional poster from the 1986 Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Each dealer received just one but interest was so great from fans that a limited amount were made for sale. I still have a few left that I held back for myself. Cool stuff! The Mob

More Jack! Got this comic magazine from a friend a few months ago and could't be happier! DC had little idea what to do with this book and it was cancelled before it was published. The good news is it will be reprinted in hard back sometime in April. Highly recommended! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Spirit of Kirby

Jack is back! Picked this Bronze Age Kirby up at MHC in raw condition a few years ago. Had it graded and was extremely pleased to receive a 9.6 and top the list. This book along with In the Days of the Mob was part of the deal Jack got to flip him over and away from Marvel. DC half heartedly published them with no real idea of what to do with them. They were cancelled before the first issue hit the stands. Unfortunately there is no registry slot for these two gems. Everything the King of Comic

Purple Kirby

Sandman #1 Variant Cover I have been a member of the Collectors Society for a few years now, but a relative newcomer to the registry and this is my first post. I found this book in 1974 on the spinner rack. At the time I simply thought it was a really cool cover so I grabbed it and an additional 4 books as my Dad would only give me $1 plus tax. I put my valuable purchase in the bag and rode my bike home. I loved it! Now, after 40 years I still do. This particular book took me over 6 years to
