The Babysitter (2017)

Judah Lewis, Samara Weaving, Robbie Amell, Hana Mae Lee and Bella Thorne

Directed by: McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation)

Platform: Netflix UK - a Netflix Original Movie

IMDB: 6.3/10, RT: 71% Fresh

Synopsis: Lewis plays the nerdy kid who is picked on, his parents go away for the weekend so baby sitter Weaving comes in to look after him, but what does the baby sitter getup to when the kid should be asleep?

Verdict: This was a fun throw back to cheesy 80s horror movies, it’s tongue in cheek, funny, doesn’t take itself too seriously, I thought it was fun in the same way as “Tucker and Dale vs Evil”.

There is a mid-credits scene as well.

The Bad Batch (2016)

Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa, Jayda Fink, Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey

Directed by: Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night)

Platform: Netflix UK - a Netflix Original Movie

IMDB: 5.3/10, RT: 47% Rotten

Synopsis: Set in America where undesirables are dumped into a fenced off section of the Texas desert (ala Escape from New York), Waterhouse is the newest inhabitant. She is quickly kidnapped by a community of cannibals and that’s where it all goes wrong.

Verdict: The first 20 minutes showed such promise especially with what happens to the lead character showed the film had real balls but it quickly descends into a tedious chore. I get the feeling it’s trying too hard to be a cult classic, no chance in my opinion.

Bad Company (1972)

Jeff Bridges, Barry Brown, Jim Davis and David Huddleston

Directed by: Robert Benton (Kramer Vs Kramer, Billy Bathgate) also wrote the screenplay for Superman.

Platform: Netflix UK

IMDB: 7/10, RT: 91% Fresh

He meets up with a rag tag band of thieves led by Bridges and joins them as they head out west.

Verdict: Its a fun movie led by a great early performance of Bridges, the music is a little off putting as well as the Waltons type voiceover but it doesn’t detract too much.

Bad Samaritan (2018)

David Tennant, Robert Sheehan, Kerry Condon

Directed by: Dean Devlin (Geostorm) and writer of many big budget movies.

Platform: NowTV

IMDB: 6.4/10, RT: 53% Rotten

Synopsis: Sheehan is a struggling photographer who works as a valet parking attendant at an upscale restaurant at night, with his buddy they target wealthy diners and rob their place while they eat. Tennant pulls up in his Maserati acting like a trust fund d-bag, they target him for an easy score but when Sheehan finds a beaten and bruised woman tied up in his office things get complicated.

Verdict: Enjoyable enough thriller, if predictable and with a dodgy original soundtrack but Tennant is at his evil best even with his dodgy American accent.

Bad Santa 2 (2016)

Billy Bob Thornton, Kathy Bates, Tony Cox and Christina Hendricks

Platform: NowTV

IMDB: 5.6/10, RT: 22% Rotten

Synopsis: Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve.

Verdict: I remember enjoying the first one, can’t believe it came out in 2003! Billy Bob is back and proves sequels don’t always work, I watched for 40 minutes before turning it off, crass, genuinely unfunny and just Bad.

Directed by: Kimble Rendall (other B movies)

Platform: Netflix UK

IMDB: 5.2/10, RT: 47% Rotten

Synopsis: A freak tsunami floods a supermarket with great white sharks.

Verdict: Another Shark B-movie filled with bad Aussie acting and worse CGI. The trailer looks ok but the first 20 minutes the acting was atrocious.

Tim Blake Nelson, James Franco, Liam Neeson, Tom Waits, Bill Heck, Zoe Kazan, Brendan Gleeson

Synopsis: Six tales of life and violence in the Old West, following a singing gunslinger, a bank robber, a traveling impresario, an elderly prospector, a wagon train, and a perverse pair of bounty hunters.

(The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) - excellent, my favourite

(Near Algodones) - forgettable

(Meal Ticket) - utter snoozefest

(All Gold Canyon) - very entertaining

(The Girl Who Got Rattled) - Found this to be boring

(The Mortal Remains) - Quite enjoyable

Synopsis: Barbarella, an astronaut from the 41st century, sets out to find and stop the evil scientist Durand Durand, whose Positronic Ray threatens to bring evil back into the galaxy.

Verdict: Is this considered a cult classic? I mean Jane Fonda was hot and I loved the intro but I couldn’t do more than 20 minutes of whatever the hell this was supposed to be!

Barracuda (2017)

Sophie Reid, Allison Tolman, Luis Bordonada and JoBeth Williams

Directed by: Julia Halperin & Jason Cortlund

Platform: NowTV

IMDB: 5.7/10, RT: 92% Fresh

Their father who toured a lot met Reid’s mother in a pub in England, Tolman and the rest of the family are not sure what to make of her and suspicious of her motivations.

Verdict: Slow burn drama which I quite enjoyed, Reid plays a great character of which comes across as uncomfortable at times, never really knowing why she is here. There is a lot of original music with Reid performing a few songs herself.

Beast of Burden (2018)

Daniel Radcliffe, Grace Gummer, Pablo Schrieber

Directed by: Jesper Ganslandt (nothing of note)

Platform: NowTV

IMDB: 3.6/10, RT: 25% Rotten

Synopsis: Sean Haggerty only has an hour to deliver his illegal cargo. An hour to reassure a drug cartel, a hitman, and the DEA that nothing is wrong. An hour to make sure his wife survives. And he must do it all from the cockpit of his Cessna.

Verdict: Tom Hardy made a drama which took place in his car on the phone to various people as he faces many issues in life it was called “Locke” and I thought it was very good, this film with Radcliffe attempts similar but in a cockpit of a Cessna but with more emphasis on Thriller, it starts off ok but quickly becomes as dull as dishwater.

Platform: NowTV

IMDB: 6.4/10, RT: 33% Rotten

Synopsis: An unexpected romance blooms after the the youngest daughter of a merchant who has fallen on hard times offers herself to the mysterious beast to which her father has become indebted.

Verdict: Live action lavish production of the old French story, thankfully not a musical! It looks fantastic although some of the CGI looks a little hokey. It starts off well and held my interest but my problem with it is I was just bored halfway through and couldn’t be bothered to continue. Lea Seydoux though :cloud9:
