MARVEL TEAM-UP #34 - The Return of the Meteor Man!

The original intention of Marvel Team-up was to put Spider-man with a guest star every month, either a big name or someone Marvel wanted to feature and help make more popular. The main problem I always had with it, is that they featured... a lot of talent, that as a kid I thought wasn't up to par with John Romita, or Jim Starlin, and so I gradually drifted away from this book.

Marvel Team-up #34 though, is one I bought brand new, just as I was discovering comics, and... even though it's still a pretty lame story, with pretty art I'm not crazy about (I've learned to appreciate Sal Buscema as I got older), it still has some nostalgic aspects to it for me.

And it only cost me 50 cents, some 45 years later!

I sometimes think Sal Buscema gets a bad rap because he always seemed to get stuck with a lame inker, and as lame inkers go, I doubt there's anyone more maligned than Vince Colletta. But Sal could tell a story, and even though the art doesn't have... quite the pizzaz I normally like, it certainly is easy to follow.

The story's just... kinda blah.

Sal DOES get to draw Valkyrie though (I think he did, her first Defenders appearance...), and Gerry makes her very Women's Lib here, in a scene that I thought was fun back in the day. In fact, I STILL think it's fun!

Man, I loved these Mego Figures... I remember getting that Green Goblin figure for Christmas that year... ah, the memories!

Spidey's being extra careful about how he's riding that horse...

The Hostess Twinkie Ads of the 1970's hold a special place for those of us who remember them... man, comic books were so cool back then we even had comic book drawn ADS that we thought were cool. I'm surprised no one has ever decided to put a collection of these together as tpb!

Did you know there were 263 different Ads???

Here you can see all of them: Tomheroes.com Hostess Twinkee Ads

Man oh man, so much for Marvel not printing negative letters!
