Crom Conan Statue Finished

For my entry in the journals here is my latest project. Conan 1 statue. I got this kit for my birthday a few months ago and recently have been doing some rearranging of my glass display cases so I figured I might as well start building this guy.

A little background. I first saw this statue on an interview with Roy Thomas. I was like oh my I have to have it to display with my book. A little research and I found out it is a resin kit. A little bummed I have to build it but I'm up to the challenge and I'm sure it will be rewarding. My progress so far is I've taken everything out, dry fitted it, and cleaned it. I'm going to stop by in a little bit to pick up some putty for a couple touch up spots and then primer it hopefully after work tonight.

Had to get a putty/2 part epoxy for some parts. As I read on someone else's blog online. Conan's thumb was missing a chunk. Sword needed a little touch up. The arm needed a fill in to be flush where it meets the seam. Besides the missing pieces the putty is necessary to smooth out the seam line on Belit. I let it dry overnight and is solid the next day.

Primered everything and did my first coats of paints. I have a cheesy propellant can airbrush that honestly I didn't want to use. I prefer the little model spray cans, but unfortunately you can't find that many colors for skin tones. And of course I screwed up the colors so I'll have to buy more paint. :flamed:

Really nice.  please keep up with journal.  I am interested to see your progress

Thank you! Will do. I might borrow my friends real air brush and go over the skin colors. I made Conan too dark and Belit too light.

Here is Belit assembled. I had to put her together before I painted because of the seams on the shoulders that had to get smoothed out.

Some progress last night. Kit does not come with a string so I made my own out of twine. Burnt the loose edges and used candle wax to smooth it out a little. Helmet looks pretty good so far. It got a heavy coat of paint on the brown part the other day and still wasn't dry completely when I painted the horns.

Does the kit come with paint codes or suggestions for colors?  Is this your first time building a model?  This is inspiring me to start another project I wont finish

Unfortunately the kit doesn't come with any paint codes or suggested colors. :( I wish it did. It just has a pamphlet with a picture of a completed model for reference. It looks like the one in this picture below that I pulled from the website.

I've done a few planes and helicopter models, but this is my first time building a statue. It's relatively easy to be able to put together but the hard put will be hand painting all the details where as other models are mainly solid colors you're just gluing together.

Very nice. Not to nitpick, but that's not Belit. Conan doesn't meet her for another twenty years.

Got better skin tone colors. Had to mix myself. I think the girl's name is "Tara" now has a little more pinkish hue and Conan isn't as dark. Hard to tell in the lighting but I think it will be ok now. The air brush I borrowed has some air compressor issues that takes more time to paint and I think led to more clogging. I only finished Conan's torso and arm. Hopefully I do the legs tomorrow. I might try to dial in the compressor so it's more reliable. I would like to do some fine shading but need it to work properly.

Everyday I try to do something on this kit to keep motivated. I might work on Tara's dress tonight. The hard part will be all the detailing once all the base coats are applied.

Sucks the arm came off, looking good though. Great job with your patience also. (thumbsu

Thanks. Yeah I'm still a little bummed about the arm. I'm probably just going to use the cement glue instead of putty so hopefully it's not noticeable. I'm hoping i could possible finish her by this weekend.

Took a little break from the statue to help my wife with her hobby. Repotting cacti. Decided to start the detailing. To my surprise it's actually not that bad. Just had to keep mixing the jar to keep the paint consistent, but it seemed to flow where I needed it to go to on it's own :-)
