  2. Here's some of the series and books that will be posted over the next couple of weeks
  3. So that's it this round. I'll update the list with what's left tomorrow and send out billing tomorrow night. FYI if you ever need more photos just ask and I'll be happy to add them. Best, Scott
  4. I never read the captions of that cover befor now. Pretty funny. I recognize Ronny and Errol Flynn, the 3rd guy I think is Peter Lawford. Blonde right I think is Lana Turner. other blonde possibly Ginger Rogers. Girl on top possibly Judy Garland. I don't know but our dad's would be able to say in a heartbeat.
  5. Fantastic. I love em both. I was wondering looking through those digest covers which ones Modest Stein had done. I noticed this one in a recent auction and thought it mighty strange: Of course, I mostly know Stein from his Love Story covers which are very different from this stuff I mean to go through all of The Shadow covers and pick out some favorites from the recent discussion on "classic" covers, I know there's a good number I really like that aren't necessarily the "great" ones.
  6. Today
  7. Trying to figure out how to talk the Kroger manager out of these after the promotion's done.

  11. That was my original plan but I couldn't handle the responsibilty. There are probably at least 20 shirts/suits worth listing.
  12. Here I've catalogued a list of the Aquaman artists from when Ramona Fradon began her tenure until well into the Bronze Age: Adventure Comics 103 - 206, 208 - 280, 282: Ramona Fradon Adventure Comics 284: Jim Mooney Showcase 30: Howard Purcell & Sheldon Moldoff cover, Ramona Fradon interiors Showcase 31: Howard Purcell & Sheldon Moldoff cover, Nicholas Cardy interiors Showcase 32: Nicholas Cardy Showcase 33: Dick Dillin & Sheldon Moldoff cover, Nicholas Cardy interiors Detective Comics 293 - 300: Nicholas Cardy Aquaman 1: Howard Purcell cover, Nicholas Cardy interiors Aquaman 2 - 39: Nicholas Cardy Aquaman 40 - 56: Nicholas Cardy cover, Jim Aparo interiors World's Finest Comics 125 - 126: Nicholas Cardy World's Finest Comics 127 - 133, 135, 137, 139: Ramona Fradon Adventure Comics 435 - 437: Mike Grell Adventure Comics: 441 - 452 Jim Aparo covers and interiors Note that Ramona Fradon's tenure on Aquaman was almost entirely with stories that were back-up features. As a result she didn't do any Aquaman covers. But what puzzles me is why/how Nick Cardy was chosen to take over Aquaman when Fradon went on maternity leave. Lee Elias had been drawing Green Arrow stories up to and including Adventure Comics 269 and looked to my eyes as the most natural replacement Aquaman artist. His characters looked very similar to Fradon's and I think he would have nailed Aquaman. Look at these examples: Aquaman by Roberta Fradon Green Arrow by Lee Elias
  13. The company won't be stripped of these characters. They can continue to produce Superman & Batman comics just like they've always done. And they will also have a huge advantage over others using those characters because DC has superior distribution channels and commands more and better shelf space. Just because someone writes their own Batman comic doesn't mean that they'll be able to get comic stores to carry their comic, or imagine trying to sell it directly online and get a Google search result for your Batman comic to appear ahead of all of the search results relating to the DC Batman. Similarly, just because somebody wants to make a Batman movie doesn't mean that they'll be able to get a studio to do it or to distribute it.
  14. You've caught me in a bad spot here, I'd been looking at the covers and the illos. I'm not really a fan of the stories but admit I need to give them a better chance (and hero pulps in general...) That line-drawn cover is awesome.
  15. It depends on the issue. The 15 issues by Bruce Elliot are generally quite poorly regarded by Shadow fans, from the few I've read they can be pretty fun as pulp fiction but not necessarily great as Shadow stories specifically. I mostly look for them for the John D. MacDonald backup stories... which can be longer than the Shadow story in some cases. I may have posted these in this thread before, not sure. Might as well throw them out here again:
  16. I don’t collect Hawkman, but could not resist these at the 1/2 off back issue sale for around 6 bucks each.
  17. In today, courtesy of @Number 6's recent sales thread. Not something I was necessarily looking for entirely for its own sake, but super happy to get a nice example of a Fantasy Press book for the collection:
