  2. That's about the only detail that I did ask her about. I found her through her mother which of course was Uncle Bill's sister. I only had a first name to go from a family photo I found that had only first names in the little description underneath. In it was a teenage girl. I figured that would be his niece but at that point I still wasn't sure I had the right guy. I couldnt find her last name for two reasons- Her father's last name wasn't Holt plus she was married by now. I gave up for a few months then I gave it one more shot and found her married name from a family members obituary from the 90's. From there it was easy. It was so cool to hear her initial response to my first message to her which confirmed I had the right man. "You've done your research well" she said. She was very nice but for all she knew I was some creepy scammer so I didn't want to ask her too many questions. To answer your question I asked her if her Uncle was an art teacher and she said no. I told her the books have check marks and lines written on many of the pages but she knew nothing about that. I read somewhere that there was tracing paper between the pages of the books at the time they were sold to the bookstore but I didn't think to ask her about that. From there I just put Mr. Nelson in contact with her and I haven't spoken to her since. I know he's spoken to her. I'm sure he'll let us know what more he found out soon. Mr. N if you're reading this I'm sorry I couldn't keep it inside any longer, I know you're a very busy guy especially this past year . I'm pretty sure some people here thought the books did come from some named W.C. Holt Jr. so it's not like I cracked the Tom Reilly mystery (which by the way I did quite a bit to find any record of Tom and came up empty over and over). I just used the internet for this. It was anywhere near the effort for example member @Karen's Pages put in when researching the Okajima collection. My one and only W.C. Holt Jr book
  3. There's a rumor going around that, having hit a dead end in his art career in his mid-20s, Andy Warhol cut out and sent in the coupon from this very book, and that was the turning point that led his to becoming one of the most influential American artists of the 20th Century. That true?
  4. New one from the land down under via Wisconsin, a funky monkey for sure, first one of the title I've ever seen. I don't even remember what random eBay search this popped up under, Crime Story Magazine #4, an Australian digest. Phil Stephensen-Payne sez: A little skinnier and a little shorter than a Manhunt. Printed in Sydney, it's 68 pages, two columns with tiny print, saddle-stitched. It's a beater copy but, oh, well, ten dolla and suitable enough for my nefarious pursuits Cheesecake ifc, have to love it. Harry Whittington, Phil Ketchum, Milton Ozaki Crazy little spot illos in the corners here and there, only one full page splash like you'd traditionally see in a U.S. digest. How's this for a back cover?
  5. I've had that problem and followed those steps. They do work when the piece locks. One thing that I would make sure to do when using the HP ScanJet is to not use it until it is warmed up and the green light is on. Good luck
  6. Heh. Old movies. P'shaw. My list for the next 8 looks (very) roughly something like: Civil War The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Challengers The Fall Guy Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes If Furiosa Bad Boys: Ride or Die Possibly some additions or substitutions in there depending on what else might be showing. Do not mock my tastes, or lack thereof!
  7. Yeah, I at least nailed the GSX1 and was slightly off on this one. Note to myself - be more lenient.
  8. Thanks @austinhgbeen hunting it for ages, and now my batman new 52 with all variations is complete ( but we wont speak about the fried pie #50 superman joining cover sketch edition - since apparently it doesn't exist ), but i will keep an eye out there forever searching............
  9. Singed right edge of the indicia page I don't think these are terribly uncommon but pretty cool, 500 made. https://archive.org/details/ech-pi-el-speaks-1972-darwination-dpp
  10. fyi, 'Dave Stevens: Drawn to Perfection' documentary (2022) can be streamed for free from Tubi. 1 hr 38 minutes, Stevens born in 1955, Dave Mandel, Russ Manning, Brinke at SDCC, and more.
  11. Admittedly, besides EC Comics, GA isn't my bag. I appreciate the era and it's history and creators, but I prefer comics characteristic of my youth. And I'm not sure if I even heard of Baker until my return to the hobby a few years back. Heck, it might've been @Funnybooks profile pic that initially turned me on to him. Anyways, whether this is the start of a love affair or not (I understand his draw), I thought my collection ought to have an example of Baker's work in it. Thanks to @Point Fivefor his advice last week when I was thinking about purchasing this book. And although I found it's contents online to read (https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=21657), it'll be out of the slab and in Mylar by weekend's end.
  12. It could be worse, they could be serving bloody caesars' I'm traveling but hoping to check this out at some point. Comics and beer, what could go wrong...
  13. I'm going to ignore the other 2 books & call this my win
