  4. Thanks to all the pressmen who responded here - valuable information that is slowly starting to fade away with time.

  6. Hi @CGC Mike - I was trying to find a way to delete this post, but couldn't find the hide or delete options. Is this a moderator only feature. If so, can I request this post be hidden/deleted? Thanks! NM found the hide! EDIT: No, I didn't. Doesn't seem like I can hide the whole thread. Is this something you can do if allowed? Thanks!
  7. When did you live in Billings? I had my comic shop in Great Falls up until 1996.
  8. I was kinda the opposite - I can't tell you how many comics I upsold using Wizard between pushing Valiant, Top 10 and "Hot Books". I think it really helped the indy guys, as Marvel and DC fans started getting into independents based on reviews and "increased value" in those books. The concept of "flipping" was a lot less common without the internet, but people loved buying a book I got for $1.50 from the distributor and sold it to them for $5 and one month later it was "worth" $10.
  9. see the first reply to this post....says it all
  10. That was at Baltimore in 2011... the line was a couple hours, moving fairly quick. GOD BLESS ... -jimbo(a friend of jesus)
  11. All we need is a little patience guns n roses.
  12. What prompted you to go to that show? Were your two sons avid comic fans? If so which titles? And are they still comic collectors? The comics on the stands were thirty cents in 1976. Were you tempted to pick up any of the new ones?
  13. I was in line in Providence to do that with mine but the line was all day...I ended up getting a refund and never had the moment with Stan.
  14. Alrighty. I'm over 15,000 comics, mostly bought out of some misbegotten urge to fill a run or maintain loyalty to a title that wasn't really very interesting. Do what you want, but don't start a topic of discussion and act condescending to people who actually try to discuss it with you. I'd be glad to sell you some of my worthless drek for $3 each, guaranteed no fake.
  15. Anderson and Garland are pleased to announce terrific results from our Comics Auctions held today and yesterday (17/18th April) in Newcastle. Global participation and deep bidding both in the room and online resulted in over £59,000 across the two day, 505 lot, sale. Highlights included a complete run of The Amazing Spider-man comics (issues 1-441) realising over £22,000, and a stunning collection of Pulp Fiction magazines totalling over £1,700. The star lot, a copy of The Amazing Spider-man No. 1, sold for a staggering £5,000 to a British collector. Auctioneer John Anderson said: “This sale was a fantastic success highlighted not only by the substantial single owner collection of Spider-man comics, but also by the Pulp Fiction anthologies and their magnificent cover art.” Further highlights included a selection of British science fiction magazine Scoops, which sold for £360, over nine times its initial estimate; and a copy of Journey Into Mystery No.83 by Marvel Comics, containing the first appearance of the super-hero, Thor, selling for over £3,500. All prices are inclusive of fees (25% + VAT).

  17. How did the piece fall off? You seem to have failed as the guardian of the book.
