  1. Yeah. That’s me. I bought the domain and threw something together quickly because all of the “official” HR contacts (phone, websites email) have disappeared. So if someone is not familiar with the boards they may be looking for more info. I’m basically trying to keep this alive for anyone unaware of the Hero Restoration implosion.

  5. I'm not aware of anything Alex Ross is attributed to have created, so there's no reason to consider them on the same, or even similar, level. Ross has a popular style of depicting well-known characters, but is otherwise not especially influential in the creative or business side of comicdom, as far as I know.

  7. Hi, We've replaced the images on your book. Here's the side by side of the before and after. We tweaked the brightness and contrast, and also found that one of our scanners was adding a little bit of a reddish/organish/pinkish color shift, which you can see in the image at left. We're taking that one out of commission and setting up a periodic imaging calibration test to make sure all our imaging stations are producing identical images.

  9. My friend Bob Wayne just notified me of Bob Beerbohm's passing yesterday which seemed a bit odd only because he'd just responded to a FB posting very recently, either yesterday or the day before. Those who knew Bob or of Bob, knew him as a cantankerous sort and often stubborn, but a devoted comics fan and a historian ...albeit controversial... on the subject of comics for many years. This probably belongs in the notices section, but most from the GA side rarely venture over to General and this is where he's most known by legend especially to those who ran afoul of his passionate beliefs which he held onto like a junkyard dog. Bob was a devoted family man, collector and comic dealer, active from the late 60's on in the Bay area for many years. His writings, while often contentious, were filled with information and well researched, even when he may have reached conclusions not agreed with by consensus. His dedication to the hobby and advocacy will be missed. Obadiah Oldbuck will have a new chapter with Bob's arrival. Rest In Peace, dude!

  10. i'll entertain reasonable counters here, but the first take on the thread beats any p.m. chatting. $20 s/h domestic, we'll have to figure out a border-crossing. return ok, but let me know w/in 3 days of delivery. check or m.o. only here. i've decided to move out of my mini-run [9-20] keeping only a couple of the faves. but unless this one sells, i don't want to break it up. gpa no help, hell a 9.0 isn't even on the list. just talked to an expert, and we figger $7,000 is the right ask, so indeed it is the ask.

  11. Vault of Horror #28 (CGC 8.0 with off-white to white pages.) $950:$850 A ghastly Johnny Craig cover! Outstanding centering, superb structure, bright, vibrant and fully saturated colors! I doubt you’ll find a better looking 8.0 than this. I recently had this graded. An interested back story to this book. In the late 1980’s I discovered Redbeard’s Book Den. I was living in the SF Bay Area and Ron was living in Crystal Bay, NV- not that far away. Ron was early with posting comics online and that’s how I came to know about his books. From the late 1980’s to 1990 I purchased many books from Ron, mainly ECs and Silver Age Marvels. It was always a pleasure to do business with Ron. Spot-on grading, super knowledgeable and always willing to share that knowledge. This is one of the many ECs I bought from Ron. Adds a tiny bit of provenance.

  15. Added one more book (see below) to join my Journey Into Mystery 89, CGC 7.5, OW/W. Was considering sending this off to auction, but thought I'd try it again here. I had listed this (the JIM 89) in a thread last summer at a 'not-too-eager-to-sell' price; this time, lower. The Rules … No one on the naughty lists. Payment by cheque for these books; in Canada, the CDN equivalent of the asking USD price paid via e-Transfer is preferred. Shipping via Canada Post within Canada is $15.00; shipping to the US via Canada Post is $22.00. No international shipping for these books. As much as it pains me to say this, two claims in a few of my past sales threads by new Boardies did not end well. If you are a new Boardie, please PM me first and provide references for past deals completed here with established Boardies. I reserve the right to not sell the book if these conditions are not met by interested new Boardies. No return on these slabs. The first (or 'Take') in the thread claims the book(s) and trumps ANY negotiations via PM. I’ll mark the book(s) SOLD as soon as I, but if another Boardie beats me to it, then he/she is the winner. Please provide/send payment within 2 days of receiving my PM with the invoice. The book(s) will ship via Canada Post Expedited once the cheque/e-Transfer clears; tracking will be shared. My Kudos https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/377554-buscemas-avengers-kudosfeedback-thread/ Please ask for additional pics/questions if needed. Journey Into Mystery 89, CGC 7.5, OW/W. Classic Kirby cover, origin retold. A 7.5 white pager sold at Heritage (here) in 2022 for $1535.00 (before BP). My price: $1400.00 $1350.00 SOLD to Straw-Man per PM

  16. I'm in the same boat, trying to be patient with what is clearly an insurance and legal process at this point. They have my (expensive) book, can't tell me if it's now restored, can't tell me what the new grade might be, can't tell me when anything will be resolved, can't tell me if I'll get my money back, can't seem to answer any of my questions, no matter how simple. I've been on the boards for 22 years and have appreciated CGC for all they do, warts and all. But if I'm screwed on this book somehow (i.e., not made whole in a reasonable and timely manner), there will be hell to pay. Every day and week that passes, they are mounting frustration with an important group of people -- those who have been harmed by a scammer taking advantage of a faulty holder process and bought it with trust. At least they should have their leadership letting people know what's actually going on in a general sense. Back to waiting with patience... Dan

  20. This is CGC protecting CGC. It has nothing to do with justice for the victims. That will only come through criminal prosecution by the federal government (if and only IF the Feds are made aware of the fraudulent scheme). Folks on the boards need to understand that. CGC is not your friend and their lawsuit has NOTHING to do with victim rights or a remedy for those that were scammed.

  27. All you need is a bunch of pretentious art critic blowhards to slather on the verbal diarrhea to really sell the art to people who only buy it based on outlandish after-the-fact implied artistic motivations. For instance, the FF page that went for about $9000 more than it should have - can you imagine if you changed the description from: This page features the first appearance of the infamous Invisible Woman costume which caught the attention of fans in the early '90s. The revealing outfit made a splash as little was left to the imagination, with the "4" cut-out on her chest. And she still has trouble getting Reed's attention. to: A visual monument to the stalwartness of empowered female protagonists, Sue Storm metaphorically breaks barriers by being illustrated outside of panel boundaries to actualize her strength of confidence in revealing her new costume (designed by Vera Wang), taking the patriarchal gesture of "rolling up your sleeves" and commandeering it for the new female regime. Paul Ryan astutely balances the light and dark behind Storm to reveal the dichotomy of her desire to be motherly nurturer and hero warrior, while juxtaposing it with the typical toxic masculinity that poisons the personality of the Fantastic Four's leader, Reed Richards. Bulanadi's short-stroked inks are a classic manifestation of internal struggles rising from the subconscious to exemplify the artist's frustration with matriarchal power dynamics. Overall, a testament to the rebellious nature of the trapped female form breaking out against societal norms, while standing up for individuality in the face of oppressive subservient marriage imprisonment. That's how you sell it to rich people who want to spout the explanation verbatim to their house party guests and show off their art collection that was curated by a keen eye for social backstories. I've seen it first hand. When comic art begins to sell this way, that'll bring it to the next level.

  32. After my comments in the Ross / Kirby thread I can’t categorise Byrne as my GOAT, but for me he’s Hall of Fame or Mount Olympus level, certainly. Growing up as a kid in the late 70s, early 80s, he was one of my favourites from then on, I looked forward eagerly to his comics, and did so constantly through X-Men, Alpha Flight, Fantastic Four, Superman, Namor, OMAC and Next Men. A very consistent, reliable writer / artist, and for me, one of the most significant. After X-Men, without Austin’s inking, his art could seem more undetailed or simplified at times, but the pacing and storytelling was still top-notch. Perhaps his figures and layouts became more repetitive and formulaic later in his career, as I started to lose interest a bit after Next Men, but some work after that was still quite readable, such as Generations and his Angel mini-series set in World War 1. Yup. I’ll always look back on that initial two decades, in particular, with a lot of fondness. I suppose that’s a strategy I’m pursuing a great deal at present, a 60-year-old reading and revisiting the works of my childhood idols; Kirby, Miller, Byrne, and still finding some magic there, even from a more mature and jaded perspective.

  34. I don't care for Alex Ross .His art has no dynamism, it just looks like a bunch of cosplayers standing around. There's no energy, there's not momentum. Kirby was all energy, all momentum. He was a master of creating motion on a static page. He also created nearly everything worth a damn in superhero comics over the course of a couple of decades. Man was a legitimate artistic genius. Alex Ross paints pretty pictures. There's no comparison.

  45. I have no skin in the game, and I am most certainly not a lawyer (or cop), BUT if had books or money outstanding regarding this situation, I would contact all the police/law enforcement ASAP (and probably a lawyer, but I get that costs money), for the following reasons: 1. Even if the specific law enforcement you contact first isn't exactly the right party, they can direct you to the right party, and even if you file complaints with multiple parties you can usually give your case number for your case that other law enforcement agencies assign, so there can be some sort of coordination if that ever becomes an issue. 2. It gets your name and issue and complaint info on a legal/official/government report, and hopefully can get your documents like invoices emails entered into the government system in the event that ANY legal, criminal, civil, other proceedings move forward. 3. This situation is terrible, and will almost certainly end in either the government or a government appointed trustee distributing the assets (whether bankruptcy, death, government seizure). If you have filed something with the government, that probably (I couldn't say how much) increases the chances that you get your books back or some sort of compensation. 4. If you got your books back, you should still file a complaint for damage done to your books and the money you are still out, because that lets law enforcement know how many folks he's hurting, reinforces that he needs to be investigated. This will help other people who are still waiting. I don't know what the threshold is, but if a local sherriff's dept (and DA's office, do both) got 40 complaints about one dude in their county scamming folks, that's not nothing. Also increases your chances of getting something back in the event of court-ordered distribution of assets. 5. In later legal proceedings, you might need to give a statement about "Why you didn't contact law enforcement earlier when you suspected criminal activity?". Also potential issues of statutes of limitations. 6. In the event that an arrest is made, it would certainly expedite getting notified if your books are found by police. 7. It wouldn't be surprising if some of these comics are found when other local criminals are getting arrested/searched, especially if this guy seems to have at least some association with other criminal elements. I know its appealing to think that since some folks might have gotten their books back that yours might be next if you give him more time, but I can assure you that is what the bad guy wants you to think. Also, the arguments about what/when he decided to be a criminal or his past intentions are largely moot and really only serve to divide. Focus on resolution and/or justice. My two cents, have a nice day.
