  1. I think you are exaggerating a bit. It doesn't appeal that much to you, fair enough, but it's objectively better than you're making out :-) Pay off at the end? Hadn't occurred to me. It's been paying out extravagantly and consistently from the start. Still it isn't groundbreaking or anything, just an enjoyable entertainment for those that like that sort of thing. I liken it to a blend of 12 Monkeys and Twin Peaks directed by Wes Anderson.
  2. Aha! Found my proper login. Ignore that imposter above :-) What's up with my custom title? That's a mess.
  3. I saw it last night. To say I enjoyed it would be like saying I 'enjoyed' Leaving Las Vegas, but OK yes I enjoyed it. Sombre and sad. Prof X and Logan are very well played. X-23 has two jobs for 90% of the film: sullen and feral. There seems to be a message in there about recognising and appreciating those little islands of happiness and meaning in an otherwise bleak and futile existence.
  4. One thing though, I can't help thinking kyber crystals are unfortunately named. Sounds like something you stick up your Khyber (as in Khyber Pass).
  5. Bloody marvellous prequel. Borrows well from Seven Samurai, which is an excellent and fitting thing to do given Star Wars' origins. A fantastic band of memorable characters which I will be needing in toy form. Also, my 8 year old daughter says it is now her favourite film. She came out of it considerably more enthused than when we saw Fantastic Beasts (and she's a big Potter fan)
  6. That's an interesting way to describe it. But I think it is being done purposely to convey how overly self-confident Lucifer is in his actions. I watched Episode 4 last night, and liked it. Re: Spoiler, I'm not drawing any conclusions as yet on why that happened. It seems equally likely that it's something to do with Chloe. Mind you, I never read the Lucifer series, so maybe there's a whole bunch of relevant stuff I don't know. Agree that Ep4 was relatively decent compared to Ep2 and 3.
  7. Started watching this. Entertaining enough to keep going for now. Lucifer is a cross between David Tennant and Tim Curry. His campy arrogance and wide-eyed grins are a little overdone and grating at times.
  8. I've been watching Smallville with my children (girl 8, boy 13) this year. We're near the end of season 6 and older boy is starting to talk about dropping it. I want to soldier on, because I never did watch season 10 back in the day.
  9. Now that's interesting! Have you written other stuff too?
  10. I know what you mean. I like my comicbook heroes to hold to powerful ideals, at virtually any cost. "It's what makes us better than them" etc. But as someone else pointed out, maybe we can see all this as formative. Maybe Jim's ideals will be tempered in these early years.
  11. Y'all are crazy. Gotham is killing it with season 2. Season 1 was choppy, but had some very good parts. Season 2 has me clamouring for the next episode. Of course, as soon as I say stuff like that it'll probably jump the shark next week.
  12. Isn't that Rocket's gag? Fetch x items for a plan plus one just for laughs.
  13. I am now! Just booked a family ticket. Should be a novel experience for the kids.
  14. I always thought that was pretty brutal. The hand crush looked and sounded nasty, and then they... what? Fall to their deaths in a crevasse?
  15. Article makes the mistake of comparing Superman to Marvel characters, saying things like "So what if Superman kills someone? Black Widow's killed people. So what if he does something reckless? Tony Stark has behaved recklessly...etc" That makes no sense at all. Whatever, MoS was several orders of magnitude superior to SR.
  16. This is one of the geekiest things to happen in my lifetime
  17. For the record, I did struggle through to season 2, and season 2 is a LOT more enjoyable. Still not Flash enjoyable, but at least not a total chore to watch like season 1. Speaking of Flash, fun to see his introduction in this. 3rd update that nobody should care about: Season 3 showed yet further improvement. I'm almost enjoying the show at this point (just starting season 4). I'll be very excited to see Constantine brought in as mystical consultant.
  18. Why, just because Alan Moore is an elitist prig? Who cares WHAT he thinks--it's DC's property and his opinion no longer matters. I get where he's coming from, but he doesn't give a tenth of a mess about any relationship any of his fans have created with these characters at this point. Plenty of others do. I respect Moore's ability, but not his arrogance. Yes, you can't translate all of the innovations to the comic medium he made in "Watchmen" to other media, and yes, any attempt to do so will be inferior to "Watchmen" because the odds that a Snyder or anyone else would similarly try to innovate the translated medium anywhere close to the extent to which he did is nil to zero. Who cares? Mostly Alan Moore and not many others. Do we really miss and return to re-experience his innovations to panel-based art that much? No--the vast majority of us re-experience Watchmen because of the story and the characters. You can still tell good stories with these characters, and while it won't be Alan Moore's Watchmen, it's still possible to do them well. He's not the only writer capable of penning an anti-superhero story. Nothing to do with Alan Moore. Watchmen is a complete work with no loose ends. You can't spin off the characters because they aren't 'superheroes' that can go off on further adventures. Their arcs are complete. You wouldn't spin off Hamlet would you? (Oh wait... I did like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead...)
  19. I heard but... I didn't really believe! This is actually going to happen then? Nice! But can he PLEASE do up his tie just a little bit?
  20. Treacle tart, cockney rhyming slang for 'sweetheart'. Mmm. treacle tart...
  21. Ep3 was a good one. I'm glad Jerome is done. He was a one-dimensional character but, as Barbara (significantly) said, "he had a certain something..." This show is a roller coaster of quality. Every time I enthuse about it it goes downhill, so I'll try to restrain myself this time. Good ep though.
  22. I actually meant your logic/argument was a "straw man" - your explanation that either Jerome was the best fit or they'd already found someone better - those aren't the only options. C) they haven't yet or never plan to cast the actual joker But I think we're on the same page either way (thumbs u You wanted to say false dichotomy, rather than straw man
