  1. It was created for collectors who only see the books as a commodity and has no love for the book itself..
  2. I was lucky enough to pick up a Newstand 9.4 in February 2020 for $499. Just weeks before the boom.
  3. I feel the same way about the Thing. I liked the original look before he became "rocky". I know many people didn't like the Byne run, but I did like the idea of bringing back his early look.
  4. I can see it getting 8.5. I would have the back cover cleaned just in case.
  5. To me it looks to be 8.0 as is. A clean and press would definitely help the grade.
  6. I guess it's true that everything in New York is expensive. x-men issue 186 from 1984 barry windsor smith art | eBay
  7. There were a couple of reasons. They were kind of annoying. Yeah, they were just ads that books sold outside of military bases didn't have. They were the same rings every month. No variety! Then one day I noticed the ink from the ads soaked into the centerfold and I was worried that the longer they were there the more ink on the pages. In other words, I was an insufficiently_thoughtful_person!
  8. Wow its funny you posted that. I was just going through my collection yesterday and discovered I still had the insert. I thought I tore them all out!
  9. I had to keep my collection in a hot storage unit for one year. I live in the desert, so the inside temperature of the storage unit probably reached 115 degrees during the summer. Other than the bags sticking together, the books looked fine. I'm much more concerned about humidity than heat.
  10. I'm a lover of Bronze age and early copper. Probably because it was what I grew up reading. Highlights were mostly the same as other posts like the Claremont Byrne run of X-men, but I also enjoyed the Perez Avengers run, the Bob Layton Iron man run, The Roger Stern and Romita's Spiderman run, and there were even DC titles with great storylines like The New Teen Titans Perez run, which I really enjoyed. It was arguably the best DC title written at the time. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, Keith Giffen's Legion of SH and of course the Batman/Detective connecting stories were also fun reads. I'm so lucky to still have all those books after all these years.
  11. "I was so embarrassed that I didn't recognize the person." You shouldn't be embarrassed. Maybe his hair was a different color and I assume he/she/they wasn't wearing makeup the first time you met. I have met co-workers on the street who didn't recognize me because I wasn't wearing my uniform. "We discussed several things about being trans (besides movies, crazy stuff in La La Land) and I'll admit, I mixed up pronouns several times. They didn't care because I viewed them as a person." Well, you were kind enough to buy him/her/they/ dinner. "How many of the people who call others out for using the wrong pronoun would even stop to talk to a trans/gender fluid person? They just want to virtue signal." Thats true, but if they don't call out others, people might confuse them as Voldemort's and they could lose their friends and maybe even their job. "As to Ezra Miller, I hope he gets the help he needs, and that has nothing to do with being gender fluid. It's the anger issues that are having violent manifestations" Whew! That was a close one. I am glad you clarified that.
  12. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's a definite possibility. But it's the only way I have been able to cut the "clutter" from the search list.
  13. The best thing that has worked for me is to add the year of publication. For example "defenders 5" 1972.
  14. Heavy Metal put together an illustrated adaption of "Alien", but it's hardly ever discussed. I guess only a handful of people ever bought it.
  15. It's your call. How often do coverless copies hit the market? I would try to wait for a book with less damage. But then again, what if it takes me 5 years to grab another copy I can afford?
  16. I picked up the Fear State Omega two weeks ago at my Walmart. Interesting that you are just now getting them at your store. To avoid disappointment, I have not opened mine yet.
  17. I wonder if the summer heat could be contributing to the problem...I mean the occurrence.
