I believe US Postal Registered mail shipped by truck is a viable option. I think you can get insurance if each item is less than $25K. It takes longer to arrive but with registered mail, they take tracking more seriously than just certified delivery with insurance. Cheaper than professional art movers but you do have to package everything yourself. Ask your local postmaster for info on rates, package dimension limitations, etc. Good luck. Cheers! N.

Given Jim's track record, FMV of these 9" x 12" detailed pen and ink drawings should be in the $3K - $5K range depending on the character. So perhaps 50% of the final bid may be tax deductible. There seems to be a lot of layers so I would have DC's lawyers determine tax deduction eligibility before making claim on eBay. For example, last year, JC Penney Dept store cashier's would ask if you wanted to donate a $1 to charity, ( I forget which organization). If yes, they would charge your credit card. JC Penney made the final donation directly to the charitable organization. JC Penney got the tax deduction. Each individual did not.

Yup to Rick. Usually, in order for anything to be deductible for a charity auction, the amount of the deduction is the excess of the Fair Market Value of the item received. Each artwork you receive has a FMV. If Jim is saying 95% is tax deductible, he is actually undervaluing his art. Let's say on average each piece sells for $6K. 95% of $6K = US$5,700. That would mean the average FMV of each drawing is $300. Jim's art would certainly sell for more than $300. The amount eligible for a tax deduction is $5,700. Of course, given tax laws, you must itemize your deductions and qualify. Check with your tax advisors before you take a deduction. Kudos to Jim regardless.

Nickel City Con should fall in under the current NY State shelter in status. Only essential businesses and essential employees are allowed to be open (police, fire dept., transit, grocery stores / food markets, pharmacy, etc). Comic Cons are not essential under the NYS guidelines. In all fairness, the new edict just went into effect this evening.

No surprise. NYS had just imposed a maximum event occupancy at 500 persons. NJ followed up with a 250 person maximum occupancy limit. Carbo's Big Apple show average daily attendance was probably close to 1000 persons per day. The NJ art show is well under 250 persons but I'm sure some of the exhibitors were a bit hesitant to set up so postponing or cancelling the show is the best thing to do in this environment. Joe V made the right decision.

1990's art is heating up as of late. Keep in mind, most of the art is now over 25 years old so it is just starting to hit the nostalgic sweet spot for the next generation of collectors.

Unfortunately, I won't be in Boston anytime in the near future but I always have a pair of new, ( and clean), socks ready. My family always had the take your shoes off rule when I was growing up.

@gumbydarnit The NY Comic Art Expo is still scheduled for Saturday May 2, 2020. Nick Katradis and I, (Animated Ink), are going to be set up at the show. With Valentine's Day coinciding with the long weekend from President's Day, I would give Zaddick an extra day or so to respond back to you. You should safely assume that artists generally don't like giving out their private phone numbers out. The last thing they need is a daily phone call from a "fan".

"Fresh to Market" AND "lower prices"? There is a huge difference in talent when comparing Skottie to Chris. For full disclosure, I do own an early Spidey / Swarm publushed cover by Skottie. People should just go with their gut and not worry about who else buys which artists' work. Dave Mandel, (or anyone else), has a wonderful collection but not every piece appeals to everyone. Don't worry about what Dave buys, worry about your own collection. I love Skottie's work on Wizard of Oz but all the covers were snapped up by a single European collector. As far as the panel pages for that mini-series, Quesada cherry picked the best pages and displayed them in his young daughter's room. Now unless you are a fan of SY, who cares what Quesada buys. Buy what you like and what you can afford.
