  1. The "fresh to market" label certainly did not seem to help the recent sales of 2 McFarlane Spidey covers.
  2. I did not go on Friday but I heard it was well attended. The place was packed on Saturday. Although admission was free, they clearly wanted you to pre-register on Eventbrite.com. I did not and was asked to wait on the standby line. A gentleman that was pre-registered for 6 but only had 4 in his party was nice enough to give the 2 extra tickets to me and another gentleman on the standby line. We were given wrist badges and got in without a problem. Something to think about for next year. The place is small and full of independent comic creators and small vendors. It's a nice show for showcasing independent comc creators. Long time Marvel inker Keith Williams was also there doing commissions. A super nice guy. Hank Kwon from BulletProof Comics in Brooklyn also set up with prints, Funko Pop dolls, pins, etc. I was there for about an hour with my friend Nick before we left for lunch and beat the snow.
  3. The 8th Annual Schomburg Center's Black Comic Book Festival is a 2 day event. Friday January 17 and Saturday January 18, 2020. 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Free admission. See Eventbrite.com for schedule of events and guests. Schomburg Center 515 Malcolm X Blvd. New York, NY 10037 If you take the NYC subway, the 2 or 3 train goes to 135th Street and Malcom X Blvd. You just walk up 1/2 block to the building.
  4. Don't blame Rob for that hot mess. The pencils were all Jim. But even a great artist can have a bad day. Blame the editors.
  5. Going digital helps artists meet their deadlines. However, I'm sure they will still hand drawn splashes and covers to sell for big $. At the very least, hand ink over their digital layouts.
  6. The cover art is a nice looking DPS. However, this may be one of the few times where the back cover looks better than the front. Lol. Of course, the real crime in all of this is the seller trying to sell a used wok for $66. There must be some shill bids in there. Lol.
  7. I would have to buy a warehouse and convert it to a gallery in order to showcase some of those oversized beauties. People think they have problems collecting 11 x 17 art and storing them in itoyas. Lol.
  8. I've noticed the Double Page Splash Thread has "technical issues" for several days now. Is it because someone is linking images from an unauthorized site?
  9. Some nice recommendations. I always enjoy walking through Artist Alley at shows to see who the up and coming new talent is. It's part of the reason I put up with the crowds at NYCC.
  10. Wikipedia's Bio Marvel's Tribute My condolences to all of his family and friends.
  11. Tom Palmer still does shows so it is easy enough to ask him in person.
  12. I always try to recycle or re-use shipping material.
  13. When there are multiple copies, it no longer feels special. Michael Finn's 1 minute later commissions has the right idea where there is a twist while still paying homage to the original.
  14. I have found comic strip art on occasion but never anything super-heroes related. Nothing special.
  15. ML Unfortunately, the shiver you feel down your spine is called an addiction. Your next purchase is your fix. Welcome to the world of collecting comic art. There is no cure. Lol.
  16. Palmer usually inked directly on pencils. With the SS, Byrne drew on regular board but I believe Palmer wanted to do some tint craft effect on certain pages so he light boxed onto tint craft Bristol. Some people like the final publshed image which is why the inks only can still command some big $. Usually, the penciller is the star artist. As such, the pencils only command more than the inks only. As stated by others, if the inker is the bigger star, ( i.e. Sienkiewicz inks over Sal Buscema pencils), the inks only might be worth more.
  17. CAF has already lost hundreds of people to FB, instagram, twitter., etc. My suggestion: @ $10 annual basic membership fee, gives them ability to contact other members. Right now this is free. Big mistake. CAF is a huge marketplace to network, buy and sell. It's worth paying $10 annually to be able to contact other members in order to make a deal. Of course, CAF still has to do a better job of reviewing and editing what people type in effort to circumvent the fee like publicly disclosing their emails to save the measly $10. @$75 premium membership, improve chat board feature like here on CGC. Only premium members can access chat boards. More chat would equate to more active accounts.
  18. There is ..... It's called subscribing to the annual premium membership and paying for it via PayPal. $75 per year. If anyone has not yet joined, please consider doing so. Bill Cox should really have EVERY CAF user pay a minimum amount even if it's $10 per year. This will help out with costs of storage space that the pics require. He can still have premium membership with different benefits. My 2¢.
  19. I bought the Brinch laptop bag recommended by CC. A few of my thoughts: - As an oversized laptop bag it works great. - As an OA portfolio carrier at a local show it's fine. The bag is heavily insulated which is great for cushioning a laptop. As far as itoya 13" x 19" portfolio goes, it's a tight squeeze but does fit. Just make sure you use backing boards and mylars to protect your art. This has a smaller profile than the Parateck brand backpack that Glen and I have. As CC pointed out, you can fit (1) 13 x 19 portfolio and (2) 11x 17 portfolios in this backpack. - As a carry-on in lieu of luggage, you can probably get away with packing lightly for 2 days if you use packing cubes. You can still squeeze your itoya in there but why take the risk. For a longer show, this will not work. If I were to take Amtrak or Bolt Bus to a weekend show in Philly it would be fine. - Riding around locally on my electric scooter, this actually works well. The shoulder straps are comfortable.
  20. Call Mankuta and see if he is available for hire.
  21. Thanks to Rob and the Society of Illustrators for the private viewing of some of the PIH originals. The high resolution giclee of the Wrightson Frankenstein piece may not have been the original but it was still breathtaking. Grail is an over used term. The Frankenstein piece really is a Grail. The Byrne FF team splash is iconic. The oversized Al Williamson piece is just amazing to see in person. Rob also coordinated with Dan Pottick and got several fellow CGC boardies and OA collectors to attend. It was great catching up with friends and fun meeting new ones. I'm sorry I did not have a chance to speak with everyone but hopefully at a future gathering. I will be emailing a few people privately in the next few days. For those visiting NYC, have a safe trip back home. Enjoy the holiday season everyone. Cheers! N. Yes, everyone knows me as Animated Ink. Lol.
