I just sold my 9.6 so unfortunately I'm not a club member anymore. I'm kind of sad but she's going to a good home.

If you frame it make sure you take it to a professional who deals with original art. Use only archival materials and museum (non reflective, 99% UV block) glass.

Where or from whom did you buy it? If it was sold to me as an unmolested, problem free copy I would be livid. But depending on who you bought it from I guess it is possible that the seller didn't know. If it's possible you should take it back to the seller, point out the color touch and asked for a refund. It's still a Ninja Turtles #1, so it's value will likely move alongside other unrestored copies. The problem is your starting point. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

Do people fake first printings of #2?

I wish I saw that post about the white corner of the 2nd print. Another board member had one up for sale on Ebay and I noticed that white corner. I asked him about it but he didn't answer until after the auction ended. It went for cheap and I would have bid on it. The picture was from a couple feet away and I couldn't tell if it was some kind of damage, something on the corner or the comic itself. Oh, well.

I got to thinking about Ninja Turtles, the up and coming movie and the huge shift in the martial arts culture in the USA after we were introduced to MMA. In the '80's the traditional martial arts like Karate, Kung Fu and Nunjitsu (the art of the Ninja) were wildly popular. Think about all the Bruce Lee movies, the Karate Kid and the countless Ninja movies at the time. Then of course came Ninja Turtles. It might have made for some very interesting marketing to use selectively chosen MMA fighters to be cast as the turtles. They could have even chosen Gina Carano to play April.

I must say, camp, that front cover looks strong for a 9.2. If the back looks as good and there isn't anything major on the grading notes, you may want to resub that one.

Yes, but I'm confused. I thought the new TMNT movie was going to use the same CGI technology they used for avatar? What I see there are physical toy like things. Maybe someone who knows the process of such things can clarify. With all that said, I really like the design of the turtles and Shredder so far!

Probably a silly question, but is Miracle Man a good read? I'm thinking of looking for the TPB's on Amazon.

IMO reprints generally don't affect the value of comics. Collectors pay big money to own a key piece of comic history. Someone didn't pay $2 million because he wanted to read Action Comics 1.

So it would seem, but that is an epic case of carelessness. A TMNT #1 not having the original cover is a glaringly obvious red flag that it's probably not a first print.

On that first counterfeit, they might try reducing the image size by about 3-5% so they won't have to trim it. Of course, this would create a tell of it's own. Just something else to consider when inspecting one. The tough thing there is you're not likely to have a real 1st print handy to compare a sight difference in image size. The gray scale of the splash page sounds like a vital countermeasure.

What am I not seeing? From just the front that looks like a very solid 9.4 to me.

It had a smaller print run than the first issue, and not as many people bought second issues as they did first issues. When the book got hot, it was harder to find a #2 than it was to find a copy of #1. For the longest time CGC graded copies of #2 sold for more than #1s also. Cool, thanks. What sucks is I too bought every #1 I could find. I bought #1 at 7-11, and then the next month I saw a whole stack of #2. I said ... and moved on.

Perhaps some GI Joe fans can answer a question. I remember in the 80's GI Joe being a hot comic, and GI Joe #2 was really HOT. At one point I think I remember being like $60, which was a lot of money back then. What was up with that?

I don’t think so, surely they met before. I think this might have more to do with the fact Claremont starts to explain their relationship here, and from what I recall there is more revealed about the origins of Wolverine (although all f-up later on by Marvel, especially after Weapon X). I thought their first fight was during the Marauders Massacre story ark, X-Men # 210-ish (give or take a couple issues).

I can't see it being less than 5. The cover looks solid, but you never know unless you actually see the tears. If you're planning resubing for blue or yellow anyway, you might as well crack it out and check out the torn pages. You may get lucky when you resub and end up with OW instead of CROW designation. The seller described it: "a small piece was off upper right corner on pages 7,8,9,10,11 that barely touched into panel" A side note, how is the tear on an odd number of pages? Each page should have two page numbers, and I'm sure it's more than 11 pages long.

Know, though, that you will end up with the lower numeric grade for the torn pages by doing so. I personally would still do it, but I'm just letting you know so you can make an informed decision.

Based on our discussion I would send it in for a blue. It certainly wouldn't hurt to see what comes back.
