Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Thread
spracknetch23 replied to Mac Man's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I actually beat both NES TMNT and Ninja Gaiden as a kid (got them both on the same birthday, 1989?). But to this day, I'm not sure how. I can barely get past the dam stage in TMNT now. -

Man, that #4 2nd printing cover makes me super nostalgic. My first exposure to Mirage TMNT was a poster of that artwork (as a 10-year old, I added pupils to their eyes because I thought their blankness a mistake). I also thought their red bandanas were a mistake. I still have that poster. -

My 2 is a 0.5 trimmed with a non-story page missing. Lowest of the low but it's there -
Interesting to hear a take from a Swiss native. I visited the German part of Switzerland in 2019 and noticed there was very little comic (and pop culture in general) prevalence there compared to the US. I visited a comic shop (in Winterthur, maybe). There seemed to be a large presence of Disney ducks, Marsupilami and Schlumpfe, with some superhero sprinkled in. I don't remember seeing many back issues.

Yeah, at the time of selling that cover, I sold some Adventures interior pages as well, around $30 - 50 each. Hard to imagine now, but $100 seemed good for the cover at that time. -

I'm a bit embarrassed to say, just under $100. Sold it on Ebay in the early 2000s, probably at the lowest point of the TMNT's popularity. I picked it up from Chris Allan himself at a con in '94 (he had quite a bit of covers for sale at that time, wish I'd picked up more). Unfortunately, I haven't seen this one since selling it and have no clue where it's at today. -

Wow, 40 years..that's insane. Anyone here been a fan since the beginning? I discovered TMNT in late '88 when I saw the toys filling the shelves of a local department store. The "bursting out of a brick wall" packaging was really eye-catching. -
The lowest of lows.. my trimmed 0.5 ASM 2! I initially meant it as a placeholder. But then I stopped collecting for a while and still haven't gone back.

Do You Still Have Your First Piece of Original Comic Art?
spracknetch23 replied to Dr. Balls's topic in Original Comic Art
Yeah.. I purchased this page from TMNT #55 for $30 as a teenager. Purchased in October 1993 at the Philadelphia Comicfest, Mirage booth. Coming up on 30 years of owning it, and I think I've mainly kept it because it's my first OA purchase, and because it's personalized to me. -

Very cool event! What a treat that Chris Allan was there. I haven't seen him in person at a con since Philly '94. -

Cool news, the show hasn't been on TV in decades. -

Enjoy! I'd go if it was close. Just checked and it's a 7 hour drive. -

That's such a great statue set. I love that setup. -

I think Fugitoid is often overlooked because of what you mentioned (no Turtles on cover), but also it’s not really integral to the overall story arc and it doesn’t introduce any new characters. -

Something I’ve never seen before. Can’t say I’d have much interest but the signature is sort of justified since the TMNT 1 cover is a direct homage to Miller’s “Ronin”. His signature almost looks like a Turtle head sketch. -
I once owned a coverless copy with a reproduction cover (purchased as a bonafide first print). However, thanks to these boards I found out that the interior was actually that of a 3rd printing. I'd tread very carefully with this listing..as I'd imagine anyone would.

It's the frontispiece page in Tales of the TMNT, volume 2, #25, July 2006 (Mirage Studios). Mike Hawthorne is the artist.

I love that book, but I hate how misleading it is. I wish there was a disclaimer somewhere in the book stating it's not really a second printing. -

I plan to keep them all intact. If I were to display them, it would have to be in a way to prevent sun / light damage. It sure would be a cool display. Maybe down the road. -

#1 3rd printings were like $10 for so many years at conventions. The good old days. -

Thanks! I acquired my first one in 1998, so completing it was a looong journey. I wasn't too picky about condition, but lucked out on many of them in that respect. The '86 Mike was framed on someone's wall for decades, so it's a bit faded, and the Fugitoid has some foxing or something near the bottom. Otherwise all are in pretty nice shape considering they're pushing 40. -

Man, how cool would that be? A few of my other ones originated from them as well. They’re a huge reason I was even able to complete this set. -

Mine also originated from the Lavignes in another stash from 2016. I’ve never seen it “in the wild” other than these two. Extremely rare indeed.
