  1. Thanks for the reply! The seller says his friend was able to obtain two sets (one for each of them I assume) and that he sold his about two years ago. So I "know of" a supposed other set floating around. I tried but am horrible with the forum search and didn't see any results. Any chance you can link to that thread? For the record: I'm not trying to accuse the seller of anything. People wind up with counterfeits for a number of reasons; and we're all familiar with homemade ebay "variants". I'm just doing due diligence and trying to get and also put out more info on these.
  2. I came across a set of Dark Knight Returns comics for sale that I cannot find any information on or past sales. I was told that they were given out at a 2016 promotional event in London for the Batman v Superman movie. I was given a video and lots of pics. You can see the covers in the attached photo. My biggest concern is that I cannot find these listed as a variant anywhere, or discussed (CCL, CLZ, CPG, etc). All the pages seem to be of comic quality gloss print, but there is also no indicia in the books. Just a credits page in the back (writer, artist, letterer, etc). I've occasionally come across books w/o an indicia, usually promos, but nothing as big of an IP as this. But I also know and have experienced first hand that rare promos, especially from abroad the US, are hard to find concrete information on (such as the Sin City: Just Another Saturday Night Australian variant). Also the books are stapled and not prestige format (just an FYI). All the interior pages are in B&W, not just the covers. If anyone has seen these before or can verify that they are indeed legit books, please comment and let me know. THANKS!
  3. Thank you. The hardest thing is trying to find accurate information on appearance dates.
  4. Thought I'd share my New Yorker from August 6th, 1938 - glossy cover & WHITE pages. Book is 83 years old and is very easily in F+ 1st appearance of the Addams Family
  5. I haven't heard of this before. Is that a known thing with newsprint comics I'm unaware of?
  6. For clarity: the book is not mine and I'm only it's "caretaker" until a decision is made. A family member wanted to gift it to me and but I wouldn't accept. They weren't fully aware of it's current FMV (they're not a serious collector) They felt they got a bad grade (I lol'd when they told me that) and as I said they asked about cracking and pressing since this was before it was a standard thing. I told them the potential risk is greater than the reward and shot their 9.6 pipe dream out of their head when I showed them my black cover 9.6 slab for comparison. I told them a 9.4 was an extreme maybe, and that a 9.0 had a serious chance of happening, which would be a bigger loss than the hefty grading fee. Also, as generous as 9.2 is, an 8.5 is harsh
  7. Thank you. I felt similarly once comparing it to other black cover 9.0s and 9.2s I was able to reference. The more I thought about it I saw a press helping preserve a lucky 9.2 grade, but the color break being enough to possibly bring it down to 9.0 on its own irrespective of the other flaws. It's not worth the risk IMHO
  8. Asking for assistance as I'm torn on this issue (... no pun intended). I have in my possession a 9.2 TMNT #1 and I was asked if it was worth attempting to crack it, press, and resubmit. I originally didn't think so; but the more I thought about it - I'm unsure. (I want to state that I acknowledge this is being picky, and this book in a natural 9.2 is nothing to snuff, but this will also help benefit my grading and pressing knowledge) I don't believe a 9.6 is possible (correct me if wrong) given the black cover and it's issues, and when I compare it to other black cover 9.0s I see some risk of even possibly downgrading and "loosing out" even after a press in all ways (grade, time, money, etc) The biggest issue is a small color breaking crease on the back top right corner. Would a black book with that color break defect have a possibility of making a 9.4 even after smoothing it out? (This is what I think makes a 9.6 a no-go) Here are some photos of the key defects, nearly all of which I think can be fixed with a press (even the staple imprints?). Thanks for the assist and your time, as it is much appreciated!
  9. Hey all, I'm a big Sin City fan. A while ago I finished a weird small goal I had of getting every floppy appearance of the Sin City stories and any variants/reprints (English only). Then as what usually happens when you hit one small goal you make another, then another, and another. I'm really having a hard time trying to find a confirmed image for the first edition Sin City first TBP (Hard Goodbye), 4th printing. Can anyone help me out with this? I already know what the covers for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th printings look like. What many sites list as a 4th printing variant is either what I've only comes across as a 5th print (Wendy smoking a cigarette with a gun, Sin City logo on her arm), or is actually a 4th print of the second edition of the trades (Marv's face with bandages, digest sized books numbered 1-7 making Nancy art on the spine). It's possible the first edition 4th print is the same art as the 3rd or 5th print, but I just haven't come across anything at all. Emailed Dark Horse and got no response. Any and all help appreciated!
  10. Thank you very much Ed and company, greatly appreciated! My how the forum has changed... Just another way of making me feel old! I like this tag feature.
  11. Hello all! Bummer to have this be my first post here after such a long time with such an odd story, but is it possible to be removed from the probation list? Long story short I had a sale long ago with "Eddie A." for a slabbed DD book. I made a dumb shipping move, case cracked upon arrival, and I offered a partial refund to which we both accepted. I can remember mailing his refund as an MO (for a variety of reasons of which there's no point getting into because it's ultimately moot) and I assumed that was that. (I had sold key books here previously, no issue) I fell slowly out of all my comic communities over time because "life" but was still active buying/selling variety of things on eBay (all under the same name). Fast forward some years, life changes, back into collecting then not, repeat, one day log into CGC after a while and see multiple unread messages regarding the DD book refund. Ed states he never received refund, and I was unresponsive. I care about my reputation across all my platforms, so I reach out even after the time passed explaining what I believed and why I thought we were done, offer refund again plus literal interest to show sincerity (as I said, small amount). He states it's unnecessary, water under a bridge long forgotten. I insist, he accepts, check mailed. This was 2 years ago. Ed can confirm this. (please note: I'm not throwing any of this in Ed's lap, not trying to accuse or insinuate him of anything) All done! ... Nope. I wasn't aware I was ever on the HOS/Probation thread until it was brought to my attention from a random ebay user regarding a listing the other day. Ed if he's still active and willing can corroborate this. I was on for a long time, but settled my debt also long ago and hoping it can be removed. If not - it is what it is but please be known I have fulfilled my obligations. Removal or not, neither will affect my future participation in the forums if any (life). I just wanted to let it be known that a small issue has been settled for some time. Thanks for time and fun! Sincerely.
