Unfortunately, after being laid off, I had to make some hard choices in order to keep making payments on the mortgage.
I'm crying for both of you !
Tim, hopefully the economy will get better for all of us.
Transplant, congrats on that AWESOME book !

Thanks Rick.
And as far as collecting multiples of Sup 14, DON'T do it. You really don't want that "crappy" book.
Look what's it done to me. It's all but consume me and I would hate to see another human being suffer the same fate - Hank

Here's one I hope all you Sup 14 fans will enjoy:
Murphy Anderson's beautiful recreation of Fred Ray's classic:
It is the original artwork used for the cover of the 2008 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. Here's it below with its offsprings:
and here's the art with the mini-stash:

a timeless classic that features what many consider the greatest cover of the golden age.
YES, I have a MAJOR fetish with this one. Its like a drug when I look at it.
PM me if anyone can help this 'SUP 14' junkie and sell me theirs to feed my addiction.

I deliberately keep a low profile and only a handful of collectors and dealers have met me in person. At the SDCC in 2007, the only convention I've ever been to, I asked a dealer if he had any exceptional Golden Age Disney comics. He was clearly sizing me up. He looked at my badge and replied "So you're from XXX, huh?", where XXX is a small town known for having some of the highest real estate values in the US. I ended that conversation quickly and walked away with a smile.
GAfan, I won WDCS 3, 4, and 10 in the same auction along with a few other books. I am currently talking with the buyer of the 27 9.6, who is a good friend of mine, and hoping I can make a trade for that. You did exceptionally well with your purchases - I doubt we'll ever see prices this low again: you can count the times someone has offered a complete run of high grade WDCS on a severely amputated set of fingers.
tb, good for you for walking away. Looks like you got some awesome Duck books. Hope you get that beautiful #27 also.

GAFan: that is such a beautiful book. Congrats on the win. Whenever I set up at shows, I love when kids come by. I don't care what the book is, I'm willing to show it to someone. I've seen and known too many people of means that don't fit any common perceptions. Additionally, it never hurts to show someone a book and let that seed of desire grow, even if they can't afford it at the time. Keep people interested in comics and we all benefit.
Thanks Transplant. I agree with you totally. Getting others, especially youths, into this hobby is a great thing for all of us. - Hank

Congrats Hank!
I will always be puzzled why dealers act this way to kids. Do they think these kids will stay 12 years old forever?
Hi Tim, Beats me
Some folks just aren't capable of being nice and some just don't get it. I've been in sales all my life and one of the first things I've learn is that today's small fish is next years 'whale'.

As promised, here is the scan of the arrival of what was truly a 'personal' grail book for me. Not only because it was the 1st Barks WDCS but also something that I was determine to own one day.
Back in the 80's, I first saw a copy of #31 at a local comic con when I was 12. I remember asking the dealer to please take it off the rack so I could see it. Instead of a polite 'No' (which I would have understood later on being only 12), that obnoxious S.O.B. told me that he doesn't carry "bargain bin books" and to check on the other side of the room for books that "I" could afford.
Currently tied for highest graded on the Census and it sits on my shelf where I could take it down to look at whenever I want.

Congrats Point Five
What a great key book.
WDCS #31 was one of my personal grails when I first set out to collect Barks' Ducks just eight to nine months ago.
I just got my copy in the mail two days ago
I've been looking at it every night for the last three days
Congrats to you too. Post it sometime!
I will .... I got to get a new scanner on Sunday, my HP just broke down (after 8 years which I guest isn't all that bad).

And another ad for the circus premium which was used for a long time compared to others.
I guess they were taking advantage of the popularity of the Dumbo movie.

What a great premium !

Just arrived!
Congrats on these killer looking books.
I'm trying real hard just to stick to WDCS (I won the 140 from Clink, a personal grail) .... but seeing these make me want to collect the Scrooge titles also. - Hank

I am a DC silver completest..I do not accept junk copies in my collection but I collect every title and there's no way I can afford 8.0 and up on 1000's of books. But 35 yrs of collecting got me what I have. No way I could afford to start over and buy all these DC's from scratch today. Funny Animals, Romanc, war, I have many G/vg and VG+ books. Too bad..cause they're all beautiful stuff man.
Very impressive.
How complete is your collection?
Well...if you consider the SA books that coincide with Showcase 4 Sep-Oct, 56 and cut-off at Dec, 1969...(without getting into a debate about where SA begins and ends) I have figured there are 115 unique titles (including annuals as their own title) and about 4898 books total. I'm still about 1000 books from completing that run. I mostly am hurting with the Funny Animals, Romance & war titles.
Bronze and up beginning Jan, 1970 I have most all the DC's to 1994. Late 80's and 90's I did not by everything..1994 I went cold turkey and never purchased another new comic.
I also collect GA DC's....Superman, Action, Funny Animals, The Big Five war titles...World's Finest...not everything..mainly what I like and just happen on a good buy. Then there's GK's, Dells, Charltons, Atlas, Marvel....but no where near a collection of the other publishers as DC.
I have been focusing lately on upgrading as well as filling in the DC SA books. I went dormant on buying old comics during the late 80's to the late 90's. Focused on collecting a huge 1960's toy collection during that period. Otherwise I'd probably have a real impressive comic collection by now. I'm thinking about flipping the toys, models and other collectibles and buying more silver and gold comics. which is my first love.
Sounds like a heck of a collection
If you have some group shot pics or just pics of some piles, please do share with the board . -Hank

How about Comet the Super-Horse ? Krypto the Superdog ? Streaky the Supercat ?
Sure, they count, but they have to stomp their hoof (paw) to tell you how high they've counted.
Jack
Proty?
The're all on this one including Proty II and Beepo the Super Monkey !
-
I don't know why Dumbo wouldn't count either?
Dumbo counts. Peter Pan doesn't.
How about Comet the Super-Horse ? Krypto the Superdog ? Streaky the Supercat ?
