  1. I’ve got a 7.5. Maybe I can press it up to look like that. Haha. Seriously, beautiful book!
  2. Yes, certainly makes sense to me that the Lone Ranger is the primary inspiration. I'd never seen the Senorita Scorpion pulp though, and that seems to have furthered the prototype for the female version of the masked western gun toting character. Both influences probably led to the creation of the Calamity Kate and Black Phantom characters. Great insight. Thx.
  3. So was the Black Phantom a direct swipe of Calamity Kate? They seem awfully similar. Calamity Kate 1st appearance looks like April 1950 (Westerner #26) and Black Phantom 1st appearance is listed as Sep 1952 (Tim Holt #25). I guess neither character made that big of a splash, so maybe it's irrelevant. But interesting to see two nearly identical characters pop up around the same timeframe.
  4. Underwhelming start. Hope it gets more interesting as the series continues.
  5. I bought book one when it was released and sadly never continued the run. I’ve always wanted to read the entire story, and now have the chance 👍.
  6. While I vaguely recall some Whitman/Gold Key funny animal books as a small child, the first one I purchased myself was Last Starfighter 1 (and I think Temple of Doom at same time). I can still picture the store and even the rack, oddly enough.
  7. Just took a look at the goldkeycomics.com site and read the comic creator search requirements, and love the search criteria: “Many of the classic genres are underrepresented in the comic market today, so send us strange war, acid western, space opera, kid’s adventure, randy romance, funny animal, daring drama and anything bizarre, fun and creative. Show us what you got!” Sounds like M.A.R.S. Patrol would fit the mold, though not sure how much they’re looking to license old content versus creating new. Still, I like the search criteria and look forward to seeing what comes next.
  8. Now that was fun. Felt like a massive video game, but I guess that’s the point. I really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the next episode!
  9. Could they use something like The Owl / Owl Girl that is listed in Public Domain (I believe) and did have a short Gold Key run in the late '60s? I'm definitely interested to know what properties/licenses the new owners will be able to secure. I really hope this leads to great success
  10. I bought X-Men #130 right from this ad (presumably an earlier version since it’s already sold from this one). I even have the Mile High II provenance certificate of authenticity still. Oddly enough, I had it graded for fun, and just last week it came back as a 9.2. Decent grade, but certainly not “mile high” like the certificate explained. Haha!
  11. In case it helps with general turnaround time, I received notice today that comics were shipped. So they must’ve made it through CCS and grading in just under a year 👍
  12. Love it! That looks incredible!
  13. Even worse for those crypto currency owners. Bitcoin traded at >$51k right before the new year, and has since dropped to a low of $33k today. That's a pretty massive haircut for anyone playing the crypto game.
  14. Agreed. 6 has Toth cover art, but I’m partial to 7. Both great covers! Congrats gunsmokin.
  15. I really enjoyed the first three episodes. At points I would catch myself thinking that Peacemaker / Cena was a bit of a douch e and not very likable, then it would hit me that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Not a big Cena fan, but he fits the intended personality of the character perfectly. Once I stopped wrestling with that concept, I really enjoyed the quirky humor, and supporting cast is good as well.
  16. Sure, if similar books compared across the two companies consistently produce different grades, and the CBCS grading criteria is either defined differently or is regularly loose/inaccurate compared to CGC, then I completely get where CGC would be superior and demand higher prices for a certain grade. I only have a half dozen or so CBCS slabs, so couldn't offer up an informed analysis here, other than that mine look like they're graded accurately to me. I thought at one point CBCS was considered the stricter grader, but if the pendulum has consistently swung the other way (or I misunderstood all along), then I understand and acquiesce to the point. It would then make perfect sense for CGC to command a premium in the market given all else equal. Again, I rarely sell books, but as a periodic buyer, I do try to stick to "buy the book, not the grade". In that sense, I really don't care whose slab it's in, as long as I agree that the grade is representative of condition. That said, sounds like I better double my QC efforts before buying!
  17. Not to turn this into another CGC vs CBCS discussion, but as a buyer, I’m paying for an accurate grade. I really don’t care which Company’s slab I get as long as I can be confident the grading is accurate. And I’d pay the same price for either slab, so I don’t know why a seller would willingly sell one for less than the other.
  18. I had a great buying experience with Jeff. Fast and secure shipping and the book looked great! 👍
  19. I couldn’t turn this one down. Battle of the Planets 1
  20. Here's another neat one I found: First Kiss 21
