I don't think there are many comic collectors in the movie crowd. Quite simply I don't think many of the kids whose introduction to Batman was through the 1966-68 became lifetime comic collectors. I think the lifetime collectors came from the contingent of pre-existing comic buyers.

    (shrug)

I grew up in the 80's, going to 7-11 to get my comics.  i was introduced to batman through that TV.  been a comic collector my whole life.  If i can live another 40 years, then i plan on collecting comics for the next 40 years

A couple more high-grade TMNT #1 sales ended yesterday at CC. Most notable was this $120K sale of a 9.8 SS with Kevin Eastman's signature from 2022 No buyer's premium was noted, so this is a 12K or 9% drop from the previous blue label sale on 1/11/24. There are very few yellow label 9.8's so I compare to the last blue label. This copy is new to my database so it was likely sitting in someone's collection for a while looking nice and new. I have to be honest, I wouldn't have gotten his signature on such a pristine book! It was either daring by the owner or could have been a 5-digit loss had KE accidentally done anything to the book!

This 9.0 sold for $20,367 (including 15% buyer's premium), which is a $2K or 11% increase from the previous sale last year of another blue label on 4/1/23 for $18K.

They should just list the final price for the buyer as $20,367

Sears toy dept was the place to go when i was a kid ... Sears had a toy section up until the early 80's

it was heaven on Earth ! and Sears also had a candy shoppe and cafeteria which were superb

My parents bought me transformers inferno for Christmas in the early 80s.  Still have fond memory of it.  JCPenney also had toy section.  Not as nice as sears though

  4. Unfortunately all my childhood toy stores from the 80s have kicked the bucket.  Kb toy store at vallco fashion mall in Cupertino and toys r us in Winchester Blvd in San Jose.

bought many transformers from that kB store.  Most of my genesis and Super Nintendo games were bought at toys r us.

kiddie world in San Jose on Stevens creek and San Thomas expressway.  Bought my first gi joe in 1982.

  5. Updates:

(7/5) - TFOU, the kids’ programming strand of leading French commercial broadcaster TF1 who will premiering the brand new The Smurfs series (locally titled Les Schtroumpfs) as part of their Autumn/Winter 2020 programming highlights, has released new details about the new series!

The Smurfs will feature iconic Smurfs such as Joker Smurf and Baby Smurf, Grouchy Smurf and Musician Smurf, as well as the return of villains, such as wizard Gargamel and his cat, Azrael.

Smurfette has long been the only girl Smurf in the village, however, this will change in The Smurfs, when the Smurfs meet a "tribe" of girl Smurfs (Smurfettes)! Reckless, inventive and unpredictable, Smurfwillow, Smurfstorm, Smurfbuttercup and Smurfflower, among others will also accompany the Smurfs in their funny and thrilling adventures.

The Smurfs season one will have 52x13’ episodes as three 26-minute specials.

Spirou 1460. First appearance of the Smurfette! (April 1966)

One of the best copies  I have been able to get my hands on (and it does include the mini-story at the centerfold)

Definitely remind cgc when they encapsulate to state the inclusion of the mini story.  I’ve seen slabbed copies of this book that does not mention that.  Makes you wonder if cgc is aware of it or not

That was a nice copy, too -- someone picked it up off the Comiclink exchange for $7300 and put it directly into the next big auction.  Good move!

    Dan

If they have a reseller permit then they are looking really good.  For the regular guy, after taxes and fees it’s a $400 flip.  Not bad for a regular guy but even better for a reseller; about a $1100 flip

  8. Anyone hoarding copies in the 7.0-8.0 range 10 years ago is looking really good right now.  Even at current prices a 7.0 or 7.5 is still a good deal.  I see myself saying the same thing in 2030.  It’ll be a bigger grail than any Bronze Age key; even hulk 181.  So  it’ll be in the same boat as other silver age keys

What I am trying to say is people worry to much from one sale to the other why not just let AF15 be AF15. It's the uncontested king of the whole SA it will be just fine long term.

Yep very true.  Let it ride, it lands where it lands.  Easily by a landslide the #1 silver age grail. I wouldn’t get too excited on outliers in either direction

One good sale one bad sale means nothing. No trend here.

Isn’t $31,000 actually considered a normal sale price.  There’s a good amount data points that point it at the $30k mark.  I would not consider it a bad sale.  There is a similar discussion over at the turtles 1 1st print cgc 9.8.  There is a 90k sale At heritage and there’s about 3 different sales at 50-60k

I added this user to my list:

    coremitch

He bought a lot of 6 Spiderman comics on April 6th. He paid promptly and I ship the comics to the paypal address (in Canada). Then on April 30th he buys another lot of 5 comics. The first lot was not delivered yet, during the covid emergency we all know delivery times are delayed.

I wait for a week and then send a reminder to the buyer, but no response and no payment. After a few more days and a couple of messages (still no response) I open an unpaid case on ebay and it's closed in my favor and I get the fees back. This is enough to add it to the block list, but here start part two.

On May 28th the buyer open a dispute for Item Not Received. I contact him and give him again the tracking info (it was already uploaded on ebay after I shipped the comics) and ask him to be patient and wait a few more days because of the emergency delay. Tracking shows that the parcel arrived in Canada on May 15th and it was finally delivered on June 8th.

One would think that the buyer would close the dispute after receiving the package, but no. So I send him a message asking if he indeed received the comics and if it was the case, please close the dispute.

He messages me back saying that yes, he received the comics and yes, he would close the case.

A few more days pass and case still open "waiting buyer's response". I send him another message asking to close the dispute but no response from him and case still open (and money blocked in my paypal account).

I am tired of waiting so I contact ebay and ask them to step in.

This is the funny part: ebay close the 6 disputes (one per comic), 5 in my favor but 1 in favor of the buyer and refund him the money of one comic.

This is so absurd I can not believe it. I already contacted ebay and opened an appeal asking how this was possible.

I am now waiting for ebay to reply but the buyer goes on the blocked list.

I would talk to a supervisor.  If that person can’t answer then talk to his or her supervisor.  Sounds like eBay messed up.  I’ve have similar mess up due to error on eBay

Well that's interesting...haven't seen this sale before. This is the same book that sold for $90K last summer. I have a message into CC to see when this was.

Interested in the actual sales transaction of this particular book.  That’s quite a huge gap between $90k and $59k.  It appears that a 9.8 is more in the $50-$60k range
