  1. My Collection Is Complete! I finally joined the AF 15 club! I just got it via Ebay. I never thought I'd own a copy. For years I focused on completing my other Marvel titles (ASM, Avengers, FF, etc.) and figured I'd eventually get a copy. Then when I finally started looking, the cost of AF 15 spiked to places I figured out of my reach. Now, as I'm about 3.5 years to retirement, I decided to splurge because -- you know -- I've worked like a dog all my life. I set a maximum price though and I knew I'd have to get a restored copy, but for this copy the restoration doesn't bother me (I mostly do not like water damage and trimming). Anyway, my collection is not quite complete. I'm still trying to complete my Matt Baker covers collection. There are 298 Matt Baker covers on my list, and I'm still missing 67 of them. Most of which you rarely see for sale. So not sure if I'll ever complete that collection, but I'm still working on it.
  2. I recently added shelves to a small closet that’s normal size except about 1/3th the normal depth. I’m using the closet to store my Baker collection. I managed to fit my entire Baker collection into this closet. The door has a lock of course.
  3. I was looking at the recap, but I understand it's hard to keep it up to date. I should have said "take if still available"
  4. My new baby is a pizza oven. This thing gets to 750 degrees and can cook a pizza in 90 seconds. But it’s also great for steaks, potatoes and veggies. And it’s fun cooking outdoors, even in the winter.
  5. Nice to see your post! I’m still chasing after those Dave Stevens covers. Not as good as you as unearthing those rare ones.
  6. Hello all - It's been a year and a half since I last posted. Since that time, in my comics life, I've been mostly working on completing runs. For larger titles, some times I pick a starting and/or ending point, instead of the complete run. So for Journey Into Mystery I started with #83 (the 1st Thor) and then went to the end. For Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, I just picked arbitrary issues to start with, 25 and 50, and then went to the end. Earlier in life, I wanted every issue, like for Amazing Spider-man, Avengers, Fantastic Four. But I'm 61 now and I don't have the energy (and often, the money) to do that anymore. And practically anyway, it's impossible to get every issue of titles like Action or Detective (for Action I went #300 to the end, and for Detective it was 325 to the end, although I have a scattering of earlier issues). Also when I get close to finishing a run I'm willing to pay more just to get it done. Like, for Liberty Meadows, I splurged on a CGC 9.8 copy for #1 since it was the last issue I needed. I did the same with Iron Fist 14, getting a decent CGC 5.0 copy. Anyway, here are the titles I've completed since my last post in Feb 2022: 80 Page Giant Magazine 1-15 DC 100 Page Super Spectacular 4-22 DC Special Series 1-27 Elfquest (Vol. 2) 1-33 + Summer Special 1-2 Inhumans 1-12 Iron Fist 1-15 Journey Into Mystery 83 (1st app Thor) - 125 + Annual 1 Liberty Meadows 1-37 Machine Man 1-19 Queen & Country 1-3 Red Sonja (Vol. 1) 1-15 Sandman (1989) 1-75 & SE 1 Spectre (1st Series) 1-10 Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil that Men Do 1-6 Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane 25-137 Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen 50-163 Tales of Suspense 39 (1st Iron Man) - 99 Very Best of Dennis the Menace 1-3
  7. Thanks for your report. For me, the pandemic taught me that I could find anything I needed on the internet, and at better prices. I'm not sure I'll ever go to a comic con again. Too many lines, too much crowds, and I can surf from my fav chair with NFL (or whatever) on the TV. I wonder if others feel this way?
  8. Didn't win any last night. I was bidding on around 10, and I went to bed hoping to win about 3 but then woke up and saw the winning bids. Wow. I don't regret any of my losses though. The ones I really wanted were way priced out of my price range.
  9. I just turned 60 this year. I guess I've have lost interest in comic collecting, but I think mostly because I have most of what I want. Since covid hit, I've been working on completing runs I started years and years ago. Below I've listed the titles I've completed the last couple of years. At this point in my life, I don't have the energy to start new big runs, like ECs or pre-hero Marvel. So that's why I like the idea of a small run like the E. Taylor photo covers. I'm still trying to get a copy of every comic with a Matt Baker cover. I'm also trying to get a copy of every Dennis the Menace comic ever published. I've hit a brick wall with both -- the comics I need are hardly ever offered for sale. I probably have a better chance of finishing the Dennis goal as, when the comics do turn up for sale, they don't cost much. Baker obviously is much different. My biggest grail right now is to find anything signed by both Bettie Page and Dave Stevens. You'd think there would be something as they were friends, but I've never seen anything. My wife often says I still spend a ton of money on comics. That's true. Finishing some of the runs were expensive. Also, when I do buy something, it tends to be expensive. Like, my favorite character has always been Spider-man. I'm missing 2 key issues: Amazing Fantasy 15 -- and I'll never get that one, it's gotten too expensive. And ASM 129 -- I have a coverless copy but I wanted a nice copy. So I finally got a nice copy last year and it was pretty expensive as you can imagine. Detective 325-881, 1000000 and Annuals 1-12 Teen Titans 1-53; Batman 200-713 + 1,000,000 + Annuals 1-28 + GS 1-3 What If…? (Vol. 2) -1 to 114; Bat Lash 1-7 Superman (1st Series) 150-423 + Annual 1-12 + SE 1-3; Justice League of America 1-261 and Annual 1-3 Tales to Astonish (Vol. 1) 27 (1st Ant-Man) - 101 Tales of Suspense 39 (1st Iron Man) - 99; Red Sonja (Vol. 1) 1-15; 80 Page Giant Magazine 1-15; DC 100 Page Super Spectacular 4-22; Very Best of Dennis the Menace 1-3; DC Special Series 1-27; Spectre (1st Series) 1-10; Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen 50-163 Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane 25-137; Sandman (1989) 1-75 & SE 1; Journey Into Mystery 83 (1st app Thor) - 125 + Annual 1
  10. Thanks for the list. I've gotten to the point in my life where I've gotten most of the comics I want. The last couple of years I've been finishing up some last runs (Sandman, Swamp Thing ....). My only collecting goal right now is Matt Baker covers, and they are hard to come by (as I'm sure you know). There's the current Heritage auction that I'm following, but I'm sure the ones I want will be out of my price range -- as my sights are on retirement and my priority is travel, not comics, there's only so high I'll go. At some point in your life, at least for me, your priorities become experiences, not comic books. But this list is fun. My parents loved Elisabeth Taylor so it'll be special from that point of view. And it's only 8 comics. Thanks for the suggestion.
  11. The comics in the original post are actually mine. I was just wondering if I had all the MM photo covers. How many photo covers does Liz Taylor have, do you know?
  12. As far as I know, these are the only 2 golden age comics with Marilyn Monroe (photo) on the cover. Does anyone know of any others?
  13. A limited auction so far -- I wonder how many lots will be in auction once it opens.
  14. It's been a while since I've posted. With covid, my wife and I have been in our forever home, and I've been busy doing inside and outside chores. I'm still very active with comics, but mostly with finishing runs. Not many Bakers, but I've gotten to the point where the Bakers I still need are not often for sale. My wine and Bourbon collections are still going - I traded a Screaming Eagle for a Pappy 15 year last year -- I'll eventually write about that (it tastes ... f***ing amazing). I'm still working, but mostly from home. Every now and then, I'll go to the office, mostly because some wine places will ship to my office but not my home. That's what I've done today (though I miss my wife and my dogs). Typically I'll stay overnight and and go to a nice restaurant for dinner. Nowadays though, I'm all about Door Dash. I've been vaccinated and booster (and don't understand the resistance), but I don't want to get sick because in a week my wife and I go on a cruise and they won't let you board if you have covid (even if asymptomatic) -- which I agree with, but still it would suck to get to the gangway and then not be allowed into paradise. Anyway, assuming my wife and I are go to go for the cruise, I'll post some pics.
  15. take it (and thanks for the pm)
