  1. Didn't know that, that's pretty cool. One of the things that swung me to list it on Heritage over Clink was that Ed J promised it would get a full page spread in the catalog. Wasn't expecting it to get back cover exposure too. Were you able to work out a deal beyond their usual commission? And did they make "suggestions" for your book?
  2. FYI, with the last top census SC22 sale, the book has gone from #128 to #54 on Nostomania's 100 most valuable comic books . It is just one list of many, based on CGC 9.4 estimated prices, and skewed in certain ways, but interesting nonetheless. It is topped by AF15, Hulk 1, ToS 39, and a few GA Supes as the top YoY gainers.
  3. Yeah, it was a fugly miswrap. Normally not my preference to buy a book like that, but it's not like there were a bunch of other 9.6s and 9.4s to choose from. You are talking about Spunkydo's? It looks to have a white spine, but not really crooked at all. Why fugly?
  4. Spunkydo has images for all his books: http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/ComicDetail.aspx?PeopleComicID=15471&PeopleSetID=2999
  5. Sorry to see you starting to exit the GL registry. You have some nice books!
  6. The ComicLink 9.0 is in the CGC gallery. I see a 7.5 displayed in the CGC gallery, no?
  7. Is there a scan for the CLink 9.0 copy?
  8. Perhaps the CL 9.0 was resubbed. One out of many possible explanations? The Comic Link copy looks like it was re-subbed if you look at the CGC gallery. Does that mean the Detective27kid copy has not be graded yet by the buyer? I highly doubt that the old Clink 9.0 copy was resubbed. As Tim alluded in an earlier post, it is in very strong hands. I actually meant re-holdered...since it was in the old CGC label...if you look at the #39 Overstreet on the first page ComicLink ad, this copy is in the old holder. I think CGC must have made a mistake it the last census and added the restored 9.0 copy to the universal grade in the last census. Since you mention strong hands, Palamas 7.5, Showcase22gr1959 8.5, Peewee2 7.5 are also in very strong hands. There would be quite an incentive to do a resub if it were an old label even if one weren't planning on selling it all all (your definition of strong hands?). I recently had books I don't plan on selling resubbed. They were in old labels and the grading seemed about right. So since I was going to reholder them anyways, I accepted the risk and cost.
  9. Have you ever heard the term "grading on a bell curve"? It's a method of distributing grades in a predetermined manner and frequency, so that you have X number (or %) of A's, Y number of B's, Z number of C's, etc. Same with CGC, and you'd have to be incredibly naive not to understand that. In fact, this methodology at the better-than-NM level is absolutely key to their very existence. Naive...hmmm... I was discussing the concept of "totally arbitrary" which you brought up. But now you bring up "grading on a bell curve." A 9.9 book would still stand above the rest of the 9.8s in a bell curve. You have simply allowed for a wider number of books to be 9.8s and much fewer to be assigned 9.9s. That would allow for a 9.8 to be "better" than another 9.8, but it would not allow for any 9.8 to be "better" than a 9.9. That this 9.9 would've been a 9.8 on another given day may be true. What I'm saying is neither your argument of "totally arbitrary" nor "grading on a bell curve" support this conclusion.
  10. And you actually saying this is the same thing? No one is disputing that a high-grade copy of NM 98 has some value and that Deadpool is popular character. What is so incredibly humorous is that someone is willing to pay such a huge premium for a totally arbitrary 1/10 of a CGC grade difference. It's interesting isn't it that we choose to use information in whatever way suits our purpose. Because another way to look at it is that, if in fact what you are saying is true, that it is "totally arbitary", then there would not be only 1 9.9 and 396 9.8s. If it was "totally arbitrary", then statistically there should be many 9.9s as well as many 9.8s. A single 9.9 versus 396 9.8s would lead one to conclude that there may be something about that book that is different from the 396 9.8s.

  12. When spunkydo puts his collection up for sale? - which auction house has not tried to contact him recently? Have you been contacted to sell your registry set?
  13. When spunkydo puts his collection up for sale? I wonder if he is planning on finishing up his run now that GL books are so $$$, especially the top census ones that he seems to be collecting. If not, it's a good time now to cash in on huge profits?
  14. CL's august auction had one in cr/ow closing at $21k. http://www.comiclink.com/search_adv.asp?all=y&TITLE=brave+bold&TITLEOPT=ALL&ISSUE=28&Condition=&ConditionTo=&CensusRank=&SearchPageQuality=&Pedigree=&PRICEF=&PRICET=&DESCRIPTION=&DESCRIPTIONOPT=ALL&SearchRemarks=&SearchCGC=&EXCLUDE=&CATEGORIES=-1&WCATEGORIES=-1&SORT=CATEG&_where_forsale=y&_where_auctions=y&x=0&y=0&where_forsale=y
  15. CL sets up their system so that the link no longer exists, except for the winner. I can only see the result by looking at my bidding history on CL, but when I click on the auction link it's a dead link. CL clearly have no desire to provide the same kind of archival service that Heritage does. Gotcha...
