I find that whenever I see the published page next to the original art, the color takes my eye away from the OA. For a black and white piece, a black frame and black or grey matte seem safest. For color pieces, i use a white matte with an inner accent color the complements the piece.

    what he said

seriously, do not try to "make it better" to look at by using a fancy matte or combining with the page. match white matte to background of the piece and black frame. I use a slightly larger bottom margin to pull the eye down (it works). Let the art shine on its own and let the eye wander around the art as designed by the artist...do not compete with the image

I have a bunch of raw golden age stuff to sell--EC's, Marvel Family, pre-code horror--and I'm considering consigning with MCS since I don't want the hassle or the risk of using ebay. But I'm not much of a grader and since MCS seems to grade pretty strictly anyway, my grade estimates would probably end up being too high compared to theirs. This means it would be difficult for me to come up with the right consignment price for my books. Since MCS is going to grade the books themselves anyway, would it be possible to ask them to set the consignment price at FMV, whatever that would be, based on the grades they've given my books?

they grade the books, then you price them. You don't have to price them now.

Was hoping for a steal on several things I really liked and that sure didn’t happen.

I had my pre-auction max bids written down for about 15 items; I ended up underbidder on 3, all well over the #s I had written down to guide myself! I went on a grocery run in the middle and thought about those Quesada pages with Dr Strange...I was still way under with max of 6K on both lots (2 pages in each lot)

Dropped out of the Starman cover at 7500 or so. I used to own 4 and wanted them all at that time; only own 1 now.

Regarding the venue; it is all about the terms. But I thought they had eyes on the art and prices weren't horrible.

  7. I know the superman cover, I like it and made that clear just before it got a price. I was offered a trade but the $20K valuation seemed aspirational to me (and I have no interest in letting go what they wanted), as does this $40K ask although the piece checks many boxes for me (I have never spent more than very low 5 figures for art though).

auction ends friday in livestream, Lots 1-100 at 10 am EST and Lots 101-202 at 1 pm EST...so I can eat some lunch!

no handling fees for shipping to boardies and most shipments are around $10-$12 using pirate ship

60 lots still have no bid at $10 start, so lots of good value here. show me some love and get you some comics...it is a win win. ;-)

    take care and be well
