  1. Ah, I've only been in the area since mid-2015 and have never been to KC prior to that. I like Bartle, but if they could get a garage it would be perfect. It would especially help on bad weather weekends like this past one.
  2. That's the rumor. I guess we will see whenever they announce dates.
  3. Yes, approximately two months earlier than April.
  4. Sorry I missed you too! I had to teach two classes Friday, so I was in for a good chunk of Thursday to help with setup and then had to drive back. I didn't get back to Planet on Friday until about 5. Fridays are usually a good day to shop for books at any show. I thought the crowd was decent for Friday and pretty strong on Saturday. I can't compare to past Planets as this was my first, but compared to other shows I thought they did a fine job of getting people in the door. Especially considering the awful weather and generally poor parking options around the convention center (off topic, but who builds a convention center of that size without even a small parking garage?). The dealer you mentioned with the strong sales, assuming it is the guy I'm thinking of, got some strong dealer money and sold some big books on Friday. They were not getting any better walkup sales at the table than the rest of the booths were. The money still spends, of course, but that outlier should be put into perspective in terms of the strength of comic sales at the show.
  5. I think that all these factors chipped away at Planet. Your serious comic buyer probably picked one over the other, which would have hurt the later show. The strong celeb lineup also keeps money away from the dealers. Since all the comic dealers that we talked to were singing the same tune, it would seem that the comic buyers were either not there, or not spending like they did in 2016.
  6. will be interesting how this turns out Yeah, it will be interesting. Vendors, guests, and attendees will have some difficult decisions to make. I was hoping to hit C2E2 for the first time in 2018, and now that is not going to happen.
  7. I heard some rumors that Planet will be significantly earlier in 2018. I guess we will see when they announce dates.
  8. I'm back after a long (but fun) weekend and have mixed feelings about the show. I personally did pretty well with what I bought and sold, and had a very good time. That being said, our booth didn't do as well as hoped and all of the other comic dealers we spoke to said the same thing. Everyone's sales seemed to be down pretty significantly from 2016. This is a real shame, because this show had more comics in the room than any show in my recent memory other than Wizard Chicago. There were a great number of comic dealers and some wonderful books were available. I wonder how many of those dealers will be crossing Planet off their list for 2018 after this showing...
  9. I'm hoping to have a little money to spend on the floor this weekend, and I'll be sure to stop by. I bought an Avengers #9 from you at Wizard Chicago but didn't introduce myself since you were pretty busy at the time.
  10. We're setting up with Duncanville Bookstore.
  11. Safe travels! Once I get confirmation of our booth number I'll post it.
  12. That's terrible. I noticed they also have a 13 year old "artist" on the guest list.
  13. A week and a half away! If you're looking for any particular books just PM me and we will be sure to bring them to the Monster's Lair booth if we have them. We will have some new books, including some keys, that have never been to a show.
  14. Recently picked up a lot of early Harley Quinn appearances from his sales thread. The books arrived quickly and he gave me a great deal.
  15. Is this something you want to do in person or just want the signature? Great question. You won't be able to interact at all with Stan, so unless you are keen to see Stan sign the book in person you could always do a mail away signing.
  16. I guess we will see. They've got some time to put the show together, that's for sure... In other news, our usual hotel went from about $80 a night to like $115 a night! Very frustrating. We've been staying there for like 7-8 years and now this.
  17. A little public service announcement... I've booked our hotel for 2018 already, and the rates are good this far out. If you are planning to attend next year you might think about getting on a room soonish to lock in a decent rate (mine was about 2/3 of what the room cost this year, and at the same hotel).
