  1. It's always a good day when you can snag a little Shagg. The new cases are sturdy and clear, which are both improvements. Your new addition appears to be an "old new" case, which means it is sans inner well. You'll just need to call CGC and request a reholder for it. This should be completely free to you. Shipping will be free both ways, you'll be refunded the cost of shipping to them (I just reholdered a JIM #1 this way).
  2. I work as a courier, the company term is a Field Services Technician, for a water testing lab. I drive around the Eastern and Northern part of Kentucky, going to different drinking water plants and waste water plants that contract us out to do their testing. My job consists of Those are real good goals to have, Gabe, they really are. You also need to add Don't buy anymore comics for flipping, no matter the cost Don't buy anymore games for flipping, no matter the cost You DO have the power to end the cycle but the way you are going you won't. People here are trying to direct you towards ending it but you keep veering yourself around and around in the cycle. Don't buy stuff to flip. No matter if it is $1, don't look for deals, focus all that deal searching on getting a better paying job and helping yourself. Following this hope, the purpose that you created this thread for, isn't what you need to do. This thread isn't about buying and selling a million dollar comic anymore. It is about setting you on the path of success in life. Those are big things to think about and I don't know my path yet and equally important is proving to myself that I can succeed at something with effort. Yes, proving to yourself that you can succeed at something is good but you are going about it wrong. Succeeding at life is FAR more important than flipping comics and games. You need to work your way up to a good job and get a place of your own first. Those things are way more important even if you don't think they are. Getting a job that pays well and being out on your own is a huge confidence booster. Then later, after you are settled down and successful, you can start flipping books as a hobby. That way you can continue to learn using your extra money and maybe then you can turn it into a "career" or at least a side job. It really does need to be on the back burner now though. You need to learn how to manage your priorities. Stop buying books, no matter how good of a deal and put all of that energy into finding a better job or getting a second job. I don't know what I want out of my life career wise but I do know what I want. Another thing I want is having more then one stream of income which even people with well paying jobs do as well. That is smart having multiple streams of income. You are onto something there. I think you're teasing here. He does have multiple streams, one is incoming and the other is outgoing. Ane one is a tiny creek while the other is a raging river.
  3. I think the #83 is one of three 8.0s now, second highest behind only an 8.5, if my memory is correct. It's a tough book. I really appreciate you selling them there so I could add it to my collection.
  4. Your advice in this thread is just chock full of custom title opportunities.
  5. It's definitely one of my nicest! I've only got a handful of 8.0s, and I couldn't be happier to give these a good home.
  6. Thanks guys! Did you make it to Chicago this year? If so I'm sorry I missed you!
  7. I had to leave Chicago on Saturday to drive back, so I didn't get my onsite books from WW until this past weekend when I could pick them up from my brother. I was very happy with how they graded out, and they'll all be very long term keepers. JIM #72 purchased raw from Rick Starr: Strange Tales #83 and 88 purchased raw from KirbyJack:
  8. Good to know - on both accounts. I started to read #1 (original series) and it began well, but I got distracted and didn't get back to it. Yeah, I've got #0-2 but will make sure I read them before buying any more.
  9. I've wondered how much movie hype can actually affect a book that is already so pricey. It can obviously push cheaper books a lot, but I'd be skeptical of too much influence on a book of this caliber. Is it possible to tell via GPA how much ASM #9 was influenced by Electro appearing in the last film? That may be the best comparison as another single digit ASM. I don't think the movie hype machine was quite in place for Doc Ock's appearance in Spider-man 2.
  10. It just takes that one new collection to walk through one of those doors to make that persistence pay.
  11. Probably one of the pricier DCUs, as you'll have to pay a few bucks for even the non-DCU version, but not a terribly difficult one to locate. There are usually a couple on eBay at any given time. but if you gotta 9.8 slab, probably command more than near any other. More than Flash #92 or the MOS #18 5th print? These three are the top 3 most expensive, I'm just not sure which is in which spot. The other Death of Superman issues round out many of the top spots. maybe not the top tier of those and the other death of supermans, but probably the second highest tier, maybe top 20 or 30 with some of the knightfall/end/quest batmans. The GL would go toe to toe with any of the Batmans, as this book is more key I would think. But yeah, the Flash #92 and DOSs have to be in a league of their own in value.
  12. Chicago will never survive more than 5 days of greggy How would the dealers fare without four days of greggy? Or any other higher rollers who would pick which show to do?
  13. This is part of the problem, scheduling the shows for the dealers, as I can't imagine that people will be excited about doing these two giant shows in back to back weeks. Personally, my issue is that I usually get to end my summer on a week(ish) long trip to Chicago. I'm born and raised there, but haven't lived there in basically 20 years. I get to visit friends, eat wonderful food, and that week around the con is usually the only time of the year that I get this. Moving the con a week later takes it out of my last week of break and into my first week of teaching, which means having to miss class to fly to Chicago to do a quick hit and run for three days of the show. Flying instead of driving also means I can't carry as much stuff, and it costs much more. I'll still be there, but it kills all the extras that I so look forward to with WW Chicago. I'll live, but I'm not at all happy about it. If they are really going to do it back to back next year, I'll either decide to do one or the other or I just may stay in Chicago for a few days before I head off to Baltimore. No way I'm going to fly back and forth. That's a decision that a lot of people will have to make. And it gets expensive to put all those days back to back if you have to stay in a hotel... Plus since I like to pay by cash, do I really want to bring that much money at once? That too. I know I couldn't afford to do both, I rarely leave WW with any money in my budget.

It'd almost be tempting to think about hitting C2E2 or Baltimore for the first time if I will have to take off work and fly for my big show of the year. That was always one of the draws of WW Chicago, since it fell when I was on semester break.

  18. Nice book, I would have bought it too! Not only is this book the forgotten key, but with no posts since 2013 it is also the forgotten thread! Nice job of resurrecting it.
  19. Wizard can't be bothered to respond to my e-mail, so I'd imagine that these are the dates unless they change the website.
  20. For these variants print runs matter because they create the bulk of the demand. For Hulk #181 the demand is over what is on the inside. It's a big difference. When only the cover matters demand hangs by a very thin thread. By that logic, Hulk #180 would be the more valuable and sought-after book. This is not the case. Collectors prefer #181 because of... the cover. (Just throwing this out there, although I do see the point you're trying to make.) Also, many of these debates miss the fact that the hobby has grown into collectors purchasing many, many books purely for the cover artwork. It's art; not so different from buying a rare painting at this point. And the better the story behind it, the more it's worth. Im a cover collector Same here. I'm a cover collector too. I also prefer a hulk 181 over 180. It only makes sense as a lot of card collectors are back in the fold. Yep.
