  1. Why are these Schomburg covers just so much cooler than any other artist of the time! Absolutely all works of art! (especially the WWII covers!)
  2. These would go for a lot more on ebay, so grab them now before I close the thread!
  3. Right, how often do you find a copy like that at 1.8 that is attached, no missing pieces, no tears to seal and with only minor tape removal and some fairly easy color touch would make a and nice mid to upper grade resto beauty with nothing needed but color touch! I would favorably pick this book vs. other 2.5 and 3.0 golden age books I have seen and owned missing big chunks/major splits etc! For example, who would not take this condition book over this 2.5 All American! I could see this getting a bump on resubmit, but regardless, buy the beautiful much better presenting book, not the overly tight label number!

  5. It is a bit smaller, but the point is most books with a huge spine split and chunk missing gets 1.0 or perhaps 1.5, I should know because I just sent a golden age batman in with a chunk almost this exact same size missing and otherwise just as nice or probably nicer and it only got 1.0! I just wish they would be consistent, missing large chunks out like that should not ever be getting a 2.0 or higher in my opinion and from how I see them grade so many other books for me and others.

Gotham Girls movie just got the green light! Book looks far nicer but hit for a bit of color loss along the bottom. So honestly I had wanted to own this book for many years and finally found this as the most affordable copy I have seen available in many years and it was well below market! My plan was to keep this book in my personal collection for a long time and I got a great deal on it given its scarcity/historical significance and $4K prior sales price, but I spent a bit too much in auctions this last month and I just want to offer a great deal to someone on this sweet grail at BELOW my cost to pay the CC bill off and make the wife happy. 7. I know things seem to swing a bit here and there, maybe that is to be expected with a ton of different graders grading books and many of them churning in and out due to the stressful job every couple years? However, if you take a poll, the vast majority of board members will agree with me that the hard to read old school CGC label with the tiny lettering (as always with some exceptions) were some of tightest graded books out there. Case in point, how many old labels can you find on ebay or any other auction sites??? Almost none, most were cracked open since they were great candidates to get higher grades on. Nuff said. On CBCS, I have also seen a fair amount of books that looked better than CGC books of the same grade, so you can't generalize, there are going to be swings of nicer or worse looking books in both directions depending on the book and the grader that worked on that day. Who thinks this Suicide Squad #1 is anywhere near deserving a CGC 9.2?? For that matter, have you ever seen a 2.5 missing a chunk this big with that big of a spine split getting more than a 1.0, maybe 1.5 on a super generous day??? That's why no matter which company grades it, you should never pay based on the label grade if it looks far worse than the subjective grading, pay what the book looks like it deserves (I know we have all hear that one before!).
  8. That makes no sense. Very early original CGC labels were universally known to have some of the tightest grades out there, so by your logic CBCS should have the tightest grades in the industry? Case in point, so few old label CGC's exist now as most have been cracked open and resubmitted for higher grades. The actual reason CGC sells for more is they have been around a lot longer and have better brand recognition, they are the 100 pound gorilla in the market. Like Microsoft windows operating systems vs. some upstart like linux. Even though the new guy has a great product, its not what many people know, although that may improve over time as CBCS seems like a good service that has good consistency with their grading, but they are still really small in comparison and need a longer track record (and better pricing to get more market share). I hate that they basically copied CGC's pricing model, seems like being a newer service, that is where they could have made much more headway instead of gouging quite as much on the higher dollar books in the exact same tier level system and virtually the same cost as CGC; the much bigger and far longer time established company that typically yields higher returns and yet is essentially the same cost as the much smaller start up competitor.
  9. He bought a $1K major key with a fast payment! Great board member to deal with! A+
  10. I have not met him, is that your dad? I know narcissists like you often have daddy issues. How many times have you been banned for posting uneducated and ignorant comments while attacking people? With a whopping 2 days with this new account and a great name like Dolt that matches your intellect, I would bet there have been quite a few! Enjoy your next few days on this account until they figure out which banned dead beat flamer you are and close this account down also!
  11. No an apologist is someone ignorant like you that ignores the facts and makes up excuses for why significant grading or label mistakes and zero customer service are perfectly fine. Also I think you made your point to your low IQ level with your spelling of moreon. I think your name and the fact you have been here for 2 days shows you knowledge level and or the fact that you are a flamer that keeps getting banned after making ignorant comments!
  12. Love to hear from the CGC apologists, but the book was the same after as before, I will take the blame for not catching the microchip before cracking it open, I fully admit I should not have cracked it open had I caught it, I would have been more OK with the prior 8.5, but did not expect to get hit another 2 grade levels given how nice the rest of the book was with the resubmit of the same book. Just got slammed by a different grader which is quite common in both directions if you ask around and my point is be careful cracking open any book, you are taking a big risk in re-grading and getting even the same grade it was given prior. I had a pre-screen grade attached to the book to ensure 8.5, but somehow it got mixed up with another Av 55 book as I sent in several Av 55's at once and I might of had them out of order or something. know there is nothing I can do with that one, no big deal and my stupidity for cracking it open to begin with although yes I was unhappy they would drop it 2 full grades (undeservedly) with the original label included. I knew this issue was not going anywhere with CGC based on their policy and thus this was not even one of the issues I even requested help/credit with in my follow up, just my bad luck and shared as food for thought as icing on the cake to a really bad submission experience! All I really requested was a another resubmit for a green label as was requested and deserved and an accurate label on the very expensive resto book and they totally blew it on and this is how I took their response...we don't care about customer service, we grade how we want to grade and you are stuck with the results good or bad, right or wrong, so go pound sand. That's not a good long term strategy for continued loyal customers, or in keeping a good long term reputation in my opinion, but if they are so busy that they can't even handle the volume they have (for now), I guess I understand it even though it seems extremely short sighted. For long timers, none of this should be a shock, for others with fewer personal experiences like this, just food for thought.
  13. I had overlooked a micro chip on the back top cover edge the first time on the AV 55 that was a bit more obvious after I broke it out from the slab, so I then understood why it did not originally get a 9.2 like the front cover looked like, so honestly I was just expecting the same 8.5 grade the second time around. However someone much tighter having a really bad day really slammed the defect much harder the second time around. Just shows it makes a big difference who you catch on a given day. Consistency suffers with so many graders and no set/advertised grading standards. Believe it or not, I have heard of far bigger gaps on re-submitted books over the years, but this is the biggest I have experienced first hand. On #2, I was told here on the boards that missing centerfolds were almost always green label (especially on otherwise really nice GA books like this one), and if I made sure to request that I for sure wanted a green label that it should be taken care of with no issues. But in this case I guess they don't really care about consistency in grading things the same way, following customer requests to make sure they know I don't want them to go outside the norm for a blue label .5 or any follow up to customer service to make their long time customers happy. On unmentioned #3, both other grading companies said they would have given the full apparent grade on the heavily restored book, however I was not even asking CGC to go back and do that, as I knew they said it was fully their call and I can live with that. I only requested that they give me an accurate label that said more than 1/2 the front cover was original as I had proven to them and had expected their "crack team" of restoration experts to easily detect! However they could care less that they screwed up the accuracy of the label note and had no interest in fixing it for me. Honestly, I was probably going to send it into CBCS anyway for a full apparent grade, but this was just further proof to me that CGC has no desire to make things right/fix their errors and zero customer service skills to make customers happy when they get things wrong. Don't get me wrong, they still provide a good service overall and with so much quantity going in and out, I know they are bound to miss some things, but with as much as they get things wrong and don't care about fixing anything ever, it sure makes you wonder who is managing things so poorly over there! Maybe they are just so busy they don't care as much about repeat business and would prefer to slow down the submissions?
  14. Looking to pay a fair going market price (netting you a bunch extra without paying any 10-15% selling fees!) for a low grade starter copy (mostly complete .5 to 2.0 ish+/- ) or even better with restoration as those issues are even lower in market price than very low grade unrestored books, so that would be preferred as I am trying to acquire a filler type copy that fits my budget. I also have many grails I can trade. FF1, X-Men 1, BB 28, JLA 1 etc.

As it is 3.5 GPA is $697 with the last sale $790 and setting records across the board for 90 day and most recent sale prices since Sony just announced a Kraven the Hunter movie, the most recent record setting sales prices probably are just the beginning of a huge uptick. Board Price $745, about 1/2 price of anything similar offered on ebay right now! Copy #2 CGC .5 solid lower grade, front and back shows well for a lower Gd range, but is missing 2 ad pages only 12 and 16, not missing a single story page! Last GPA sale in this grade $300. Board Price $295

I am very tempted to resubmit this as it looks far nicer than many 9.0 and even some 9.2 CGC books I have seen, but I am a bit risk adverse by nature, so I thought I would offer it to anyone on the boards that likes to take CPR chances, because this is a great cost/benefit risk book! While the 8.5 GPA is $549, the 9.0 GPA is $919 and the 9.2 GPA is $1,814, that sounds like its a great risk for re-submitting! Overall, I think this book is already undervalued and way overlooked as it is only the 2nd ever Captain America book in the Avengers line and only missed out on his 2nd overall appearance by 1 week (came out same month as FF 25, practically a tie!) You don't find these books in this high of investment grades very often and this one shows amazingly well! If this book does not sell fast, I will probably put it in the stack of books I am already getting to send into CGC next month.
