  1. 20 business days, 100 business days, 110 business days. April 10 I submitted 11 books expecting to have them back 4-5 weeks later, which was the average turnaround advertised by CGC. Then I found out that the 'current turnaround' was 100 days. And today I see that it's now 110 business days. Another 5 weeks. At least, because I am certain that between noe and then that turnaround number will go up again. What bugs me here is that if CGC who have obviously more work then they can handle, keeps advertising (e-mail earlier today) that people can submit books at conventions. Gambling with my membership bonus Right. I used my coupon for 3 Express gradings for a kind of gamble. It took a bit longer than the advertised lead times, but I was not in a hurry. I submitted 3 FF books (issues 8, 30 and 50). FF # 8 came back with a 1.5 grade. Not because it's not a beautiful copy, but (I forgot to check), there was a coupon missing. Not one detrimental to the story, but still. FF # 30 came back with a 5.0. I really expected more of it. FF 50 came back with a 7.0 which was right on what I expected. These 3 will go up for sale to generate funds to purchase higher grade copies. Now the long wait for the other 11 FF books that I submitted begins. If 3 days for Express becomes close to 3 weeks than I suppose that I will have to be very patient.
  3. And it's even worse. My previous contribution was wrong. I have been focusing on a 40 day turnaround, whereas the books I submitted are magazine sized. And those have a 25 day estimated turnaround. I understand the concept of 'estimated', but 3 full weeks later than advertised??? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 4. 40 business days is less clear then one might think Invoice date 27th October. From there it will take 40 business days to get my first 15 books (of about 400) graded. First conundrum: do I start counting on the 27th or the 28th? Second conundrum is the day between this year's Thanksgiving and Saturday a business day or not? (I'm not an American, so to me such things are less obvious). Tomorrow CGC will be closed for X-mas. So today I get my X-mas present. Or Not. It's now 11 AM in Florida an 5 PM over here. I am not overly optimistic. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. Fighting an uphill battle against procedures and protocols. Right. So I have this attic and in that attic is my comics collection. Has been there since 1981 when we moved to this place. And I have reached the point that asks 'what to do with this stuff?'. My kids never had any interest. They still have not. So I decide to say goodbye to my 'collection'. First step is eBay. Here I learn about other sites and very quickly it becomes clear that part of what I have is worth more than I expected (and my expectations were low, because the 2,500 Dutch comics I have would not clear more than 5,000 U$ - I'll rather burn them). What also becomes very very clear is that grade is extremely important. So I am now facing this difficult question. Should I have my books graded? That is an important question, because it concerns over 500 items. That is a lot of money, grading wise. I start comparing my books with books shown on the internet and decide that in many cases my copy looks (much) better. But comparing the real thing with a picture a a computer display is comparing apples with oranges. So I have taken the plunge. I have randomly selected 15 magazines and submitted them for grading. My parcel disappears in the void. Because the Fedex, UPS, TNT, DHL may boast their tracking systems. In reality those tracking systems are . Finally I receive confirmation that the parcel has been delivered to CGC. But it does not appear on the site for almost 2 weeks. I contact CGC and learn that they cannot read the CC number and that they have sent an e-mail to the address where the books should be sent to after grading. Which seems a bit silly, because why contact the receiver if you have the shipper's address? Additionally I ask CGC whether it would not be much more efficient by using the tried and trusted SWIFT network. That would allow me to have money in their account within 24 hours. CGC responds that their method of payment has been devised because there maybe discrepancies between the amount calculated on the submitting form/invoice and the actual cost. That is an answer, but in my eyes not a really valid one. In this day and age. How difficult is it to accept the shipment, check the calculation and then send the client (member) an e-mail with a hotlink to a payment form as in almost every website where payments are in order? Anyway. Roughly a month has passed since I shipped the books and since last Friday (October 31) now my invoice status is verified. Can't wait to see results.
