  1. The one that I thought was scary when I was a kid in the 1960's was Fantastic Four #58. What a dark storyline. It was the FF's darkest hour. They were so hopeless fighting Doctor Doom. Still to this day my favorite FF story #57 to # 60. Stan and Jack were at the top of there game.
  2. Not so much a book, but when someone new comes on the boards asking what's a good investment. Buy what you like. I know there always has been investors ,nothing wrong with that. But again is that all there is? Then buy stocks , etc. What about the love of the book, hobby , history, etc. Sheesh!!
  3. IMO that Thrilling Comics should have been a conserved grade also. Somebody in QC didn't have there coffee that morning.
  4. This book in any grade is worth having. Mystery Men # 7 has always been a rare/scarce book that's for sure. I bought my copy 15 years ago maybe more.
  5. My personal favorite cover of the Golden Age. Wonderworld # 7 ranks up there also.
  6. Rick, I'm sorry about your loss. you said your collectibles were destroyed. Did your Centaur collection survive?
  7. That looks like George Tuska to me . I met him also years ago, what a great guy. I talked to him about his early days , when I bought up Lou Fine he glowed. He said, he was the best with a brush!! I then showed him a Hit Comics # 5 I just purchased at the show. He said that it was beautiful and then showed it to his wife Dorathy. Both were great people. Sadly he is missed. BTW , I also bought a Mystery Men # 5 off of Harley at another show.
  8. I have a Challengers of the Unknown #1 with a blue cover. I have seen copies also of the grey. I think that was they were printed at the end of the printing run. Just a guess??
  9. Congrats! I'm a old timer myself when it comes to comics. I was born in 1957. The 1st comic I distinctly remember having was Batman #143 in a pile that my older cousin gave me. Couldn't read yet , but I loved that monster on the cover. Bought that book again many years later as the original comic got lost in the sands of time. Around 1963 , I bought Fantastic Four # 16 off the newsstand at a place called Johnny's Market. It was a local grocery store in my neighborhood. In 1964 started buying Famous Monsters starting with the yearbook. In 1965 started buying comics again DC then Marvel. I was slowly getting hooked, Came across older back issues at school flea markets. Picked up a collection off a older kid that didn't want them, around 1969. Spiderman # 5 was his oldest issue. Collected Heavy Metal magazine around 1976 into the 1980's. My younger brother who no longer collects told me about a comic store he went to. I went the next visit . This was in 1987. It was like walking into a time machine. this store had great back issues, Golden and Silver. Started going to conventions also. Mail order through the CBG. Been collecting since nonstop. Love this hobby.
  10. Guys like Curt Swan sure knew there craft. Underated artist.
  11. Rick, I'm sorry. You and your Family are in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. The colors, gloss, white pages to boot. Just beautiful!
  13. Big congrats! Your copy looks great! I swear that book was printed with a weak spine off the press. My copy is missing the back cover. It seems to always show up with back cover missing or spine split. Either way it's the front cover that counts. My favorite golden age cover of all. Again welcome to the club of owning one.
  14. What a cool book, looks great. Gustavson, Guardineer, and Jack Cole inside.
  15. Great report and photos. Always look forward to this posting. One of my favorites on the boards!
  16. Beautiful! That's one you never see. Off topic, Reed Crandell , good Lord he was great. Cat , did you get the book on Reed Crandell by Roger Hill ? Incredible book , I loved it. The art , stories. etc. Roger Hill put out a book to be proud of. I know Reed would be smiling!!
  17. Oh Boy, that brings back memories. It was the same for me also in South Jersey. I remember the bundles, with string. I always went for a copy in the middle. In the summer I would get up early sometimes and go downtown and wait for the delivery truck. this would be around 1967/1968. Great times. What a way to start my day off!!
  18. Great Book! I have a nice copy of that one also. That book is a bittersweet memory. I spent some of my lunch money on this comic when I was a kid. My Mother wasn't to happy about it. She let me keep it ,but boy did I get a scolding on that one. Those damn comic books!!
