  1. Nice! Been grabbing those every time I see them (usually in buck bins). Call it gut feeling for a GOTG movie appearance, plus her series was by Abnett & Lanning and James Gunn is a fan of that creative team. Great minds, my friend I have a modest horde of the Bloodstone mini-series plus these in the vault: http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/PeopleSetDetail.aspx?PeopleSetID=90302 Looks like a pretty good decision right about now.
  2. Bloodstone #1 is heating up. I sold 3 VF/NM copies at $10 shipped within minutes. I pulled these out of a dollar bin a month ago, so not a bad return. I've been scooping up copies of this book for a couple of years now. It's nice to see it heat up, but that means I won't be able to buy anymore at a decent price.
  3. Could be because there are too many books to consider. There are at least 4 different comics that could claim to be the 1st appearance of Valeria.
  4. Starting my sales thread later today. I'll have Kamala Khan firsts of every flavor plus lots of other 1st appearances.
  5. Coming to a sales thread near you...
  6. Creating brand new characters at Marvel or DC is not beneficial to the creators. While they do get some revenue from multimedia adaptations, the bulk of that licensing money goes to the comic book companies (Marvel/DC). If a creator has an idea for a great new character, they are better off using it for a creator-owned project since they would get 100% of the revenue from licensing deals.
  7. Here's what we have in our database: 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D have Diamond item codes from December 2013 (DEC130623,DEC130624,DEC130625,DEC130626), released week of Feb 7, have cover date April. The date listed on our site is the cover date, which is usually a month or two later than when the book actually appears on shelves. 1E has a Diamond item code from January 2014 (JAN148035), released week of March 14, has cover date May. 2nd print. 1F has a Diamond item code from February 2014 (FEB148201), released week of April 25, has cover date June. 3rd print. 1G also has a Diamond item code from February 2014 (FEB148202), and is also marked as having released the week of April 25. Based on that, I changed our cover date from April to June to match 1F. 1G was made available by Diamond and released at the same time as 1F. So yes, we consider 1G to be a 3rd printing even though Marvel didn't label it as such on the cover. We aren't always consistent with setting the cover dates for reprints. Sometimes the cover date will be the same as for the original printing, even though the reprint came out months later. This is helpful in cases where the book actually has the date shown on the cover: eg the original says August, and the reprint also says August on the cover even though it came out in December. In other cases, we'll set the cover date on a reprint to indicate the timeframe in which the reprint was available for purchase. That's what I did here with 1G, changing it from April (when the first prints came out) to June (matching 1F, which was released at the same time as 1G). 3rd print. Told ya so.
  8. My 2/26 MST is still stuck in QC. Anybody have invoices received on or after that date shipped?
  9. reholders go fast. If there weren't a lot of other reholders in the queue at the same time, they go even faster. Makes you wonder why it takes so long to encapsulate books once they've been graded.
  10. That is the regular 3rd print, yes. The b&w is the 3rd print sketch. I don't really have another good example off the top of my head as to another time as to when they did a variant for a later printing, but so far I have 4 sources that say it's the 3rd print variant and I don't see any that say 1st print, besides maybe eBay listings: Midtown MCS CCL CBR That's what we're discussing. Some believe it's a first print variant. It's defnitely a 3rd print, not a 1st print variant. I remember when it was solicited and it could be had for cover price at the time of release.
  11. You guys know there are two different covers for the 3rd print, right? That's why one of them has a different UPC, to distinguish it from the "other" 3rd print cover.
  12. We'll see how the market reacts to a CGC 9.8 ANMN Point One sometime next week.
  13. Did it have bindery tears? Just wondering if they are going to let small tears "slide" on this book or not. Appreciate any info!! Nice grade!! If there are bindery tears, they are barely noticable. It's a beautiful copy.
  14. Very awesome! Eager to see what the label says about it. 1st full appearance of the new Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan).
  15. Nice! Let us know how much it sells for if you decide to part with it, just to compare to cm 17 2nd print 9.8 sales. I will be selling it here on the boards along with a bunch of other slabs. I have no idea how to price it at this point though.
  16. I will have a CGC 9.8 ANMN Point One around this time next week. Shipped today.
  17. Same with me We've definitely hit the 55 business day mark and are about to go into a holiday weekend so who knows when these will ship out. Regular Modern received 3/2 grading/quality control 5/22 shipped/safe 6/1 Regular Modern received 3/2 grading/quality control 5/22 #FIFO Hopefully my 2/26 invoice will ship sometime this week.
  18. I was going to ask this myself. I have MST that's been stuck in QC forever. Invoice date is 2/26, so I think we're past 55 business days on that one.
  19. Mark my words - some writer at Marvel will retcon that cameo in CM 17 as Mystique or a Bizarro Kamala Khan. It's possible since we don't see her face or find out her name. That bicep could literally be anybody - maybe She-Hulk with a tan getting her cosplay costume ready.
  20. Are people other than me buying this cover? Yeah :: I'm seeing people paying over $15 plus shipping for a book that can be bought for $13 shipped. Why? I guess it depends on how much condition matters to you. I bought a few direct from BAM and they arrived in horrific condition because they were thrown in a box without any packing materials and shifted around the whole trip. I sent those back and am much happier paying a little bit of a premium for higher grade copies that are packed and shipped securely.
  21. When a character or event is depicted on a cover, but not in the actual story inside the book, do we consider it as "happening"? It's an old marketing ploy you used to see more often. I've never considered an image of a character on a cover an appearance in said book if he/she did not actually appear in the story inside. Add to that a publisher retroactively placing it on a second print cover, and the notion of any appearance - much less first appearance - becomes even more spurious. What we have here is the same situation as Marvel Age #97 and Darkhawk #1. Marve Age 97 features Darkhawk on the cover, and is a nice collectible for Darkhawk fans, but he's not on the inside. Thus, Darkhhawk #1 (not Marvel Age 97) is considered his 1st appearance. Very good point. The only counter argument at all is scarcity is driving this book as well due to low print run. I think ANMN Point One is going to be much tougher to find in high grade, regardless of print run, because it's an over-sized issue and was initially dismissed by collectors.

  23. Apparently not. If you thought the Ms. Marvel hype had died down, this sat at $510 for about 2-3 days, then boom. Captain Marvel #17 2nd Print - 5 copies I smell something fishy with that auction. Winning bidder had 62% activity with that seller and 8 bid retractions in 6 months. cough cough cough SHILL!!! Wow, I did not even notice that! They have a high rating, wonder if there is some bartering going on. Bid it up, retract, then offer a second chance to the next guy. These kind of shenanigans drive me nuts and are the main reason I avoid eBay auctions if I can help it. Looks like another 5 just got listed by the same seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Copies-CAPTAIN-MARVEL-17-2nd-Print-1st-APP-FIRST-COVER-for-MS-MARVEL-/111683299314 And the game begins...seller uses shill to inflate the price and then re-lists in an attempt to get someone else to pay close to the new "value." This is as shilly as it gets. I reported the seller to eBay. Let's see what happens, if anything.
  24. I cite the "krighton paradox" as proof that ANMN Point One is the book to have: a 2nd print can't be the first appearance of a character if the 1st print of the same comic isn't considered the first appearance of said character.
