  1. Couldn't agree more! I forgot before my introduction to "hero" comics I used to have Whizzer and Chips bought for me by grandad.
  2. It was a very significant show in British fandom history, but because of its location it lost money, and it was never brought back. But it did get a lot more people into U.S. comics. This raises a question to my fellow UK'ites. What got you into comics? For me it was Batman (1989) that got me into mainstream DC. Upto then the only comic I read was UK Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Although the OCD collecting bug hit me with trading cards. I still have them in a folder in the loft somewhere Annual caravan holidays on the South Wales coast...you could pretty much guarantee it would rain for three or four days at a stretch. The local newsagent stocked DC and Marvel comics so it was something to read when waiting for the sun to make an appearance. Would always look out for the following: DC: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and The Justice League of America. Marvel: X-Men, Avengers, Defenders and The Invaders. Happy memories!
  3. Hi Matt and welcome back to the boards! I haven't been spending as much time as I'd like on the boards recently but it looks like the number of UK boarders is rising which is great! Cheers Dai
  4. Just had message from Sharon and she said my economy books hadn't been graded yet and could be another 2 months! Oh well it's only been 4 months so far, half a year seems like a reasonable turnaround for the money it cost to get the books graded. That's getting beyond the pale. +1 The serious question is would we put up with that type of service when it comes to other aspects of our day to day life? A result of having a captive market perhaps?
  5. Thanks for setting up the sales PM chaps! Will try to have a browse at lunchtime (thumbs u Dai
  6. Guess. I think I'm more John Cleese. That's not a compliment you've given yourself there. I think you're more Harold Lloyd. Harold Lloyd was an absolute genius, so you may be right. The resemblance is uncanny. For folks who may not be up to speed with the "comic genius" Harold lloyd
  7. I never said they were smelly. I guess the remark was a bit unfair, but customers these days at the Royal National just don't seem to be spending, which is understandable given the current situation. I've got 20 - 30 long boxes of 50p / £1 comics, but I'm too lazy to take them to shows. You didn't have to we could smell them I think most people's spending habits have had to change. It's only a lucky few that can spend big on their hobby these days. That said I'm a big fan of the 50p/£1 boxes as you can pick up some good reads that you wouldn't have otherwise. If the price is right most comics will shift at a mart. Definitely. There are as many people turning up at the National as ever, so the traffic (and the turnover) is still decent. It's been a while since I've made a trek down to the National. Will probably check it out agin when fellow boarders have a table. Chance to pick up the odd bargain and give moral support while they dealt with the great unwashed hordes.

  9. Sounds like a good idea. Will get myself joined up!
  10. I'm not sure if it would be necessary, majority vote may be sufficient for any issues. What does everyone else think? I think we are all good people here that a mod is not needed I agree +1
  11. I'm late to the party as usual - can I get added to the list please! (thumbs u I've skipped to the end but I'm sure you guys have done a great job of ironing out any creases already! Cheers Dai
  12. It wouldn't be fair to put someone on probation if you get the books within the allotted timeframe. They may be at communicating but you'll get that in any aspect of life. I've waited months for books I've bought on here from all kinds of sellers, I generally just waited it out and all came good in the end. I'm not saying that's the case in this situation as I've never heard of the seller, but the way I see it if you get your books within 30 days all is good by the Sales rules. If you don't you take it to probation and presumably get your money back. Nothing lost in either instance. Nothing's ever going to be perfect, and nine times out of ten a little patience will see you through. Again, I'm not defending this particular transaction as the communication does look slack, but to hang someone up because they don't communicate even if they've sent the goods is a bit steep. If eBay worked like that there'd be way more negs left than positives. eBay does work like this - you can give someone a positive because you received the book you asked for within the stated timeline, but still mark them down on comms in the detailed star ratings. That's a good compromise between saying nothing on one hand and going over the top (i.e. leaving a neg) on the other - there's no equivalent to that halfway house on the boards. I agree completely with what you said - it would not be fair to put someone on probation for slack comms. I also agree that sometimes you just have to suck it up. The main thing is that ArsenalHerd gets the book! I'm sure all the rest of it will be quickly forgotten once he has his hands on it. Maybe I am a hardass, but if seller is not communicating, then others should know and therefore his or her poor performance expressed on the probation thread. I htink we are being overly kind as this is a good community - to better the community would be to notify someone of their flaws so in the future they rectify it. Don't you think? So don't slam the guy or gal (especially if you get your book), but give a 'neg on communication'
  13. For me the main issue is the lack of communication, add in the fact the seller seems reluctant to supply the tracking number. It's not a good advertistment for the seller in my book - hope it all works out ok
  14. +1 . Pity Luton couldn't have made it back into the football league
  15. I'm an online comic shop that's not online yet. You need a... No more like C'mon Gaz before I end up looking like this
  16. Funny. I really feel sorry for Rio though. Not because I think he should have gone, but because I don't buy the injury explanation. To me, it seems clear that he's been left out because of the potential conflict between him and Terry (who I think is a reprehensible little turd). It's so misguided too - it's not like the people who support Rio are going to be thinking "Oh well, no problems, since he's not actually physically here I'm going to be JT's best mate". Hodgson has really missed a trick in my view - this was a great opportunity to clear the decks and blood some new talent a couple of years in advance of the next World Cup, at a time when expectations are probably at a 20 year low. Including Lampard, Gerard, Terry, Barry as probable starters, and like Downing has blown that. Oh well. Got to agree with you on Ferdinand & Terry - I wouldn't have selected either of them for the squad as both of then come with to much baggage these days.
  17. Having just had the worst league season in over 5 years I can't see how anyone would think it was a bad decision I'm a Liverpool supporter (of sorts) and it's sad to see "King Kenny" go but the League cup and 8th in the league is a poor return on the money put into the club. Add in the Suarez incident and I can see why they felt changes had to be made
  18. Glad that he won. +1 - let's hope he continues for a couple more years Just heard on the radio that "The Rocket" will now be taking a six month break from Snooker....Hendry or Davies in their pomp would never have thought about doing that.
