I haven't placed any orders with CGC for several months but received an invoice today for a littler over $21. I'm assuming it's a mistake that I'll be able to clear up on Monday.
Did anyone else see a charge on their accounts?

Looks like we have fairly clear winners (for 3 out of 4), but I'll keep the deadline for voting up until Sunday as was originally discussed.
-
-
Does that mean to my questions?

Contest has started! Get your votes in before next Sunday!

I think high grade (9.8) issues would still do very well, simply because there are hardly any out there! I would focus on celebrity covers, however.
I would be eager to buy a high grade collection of that caliber.

We only need three more entries! If you have any friends who are collectors and you think they might enjoy the contest, let them know!
It appears seeking 32 entries wasn't realistic, but we are very close to 16. Keep those entries coming!

I'm considering going to NYCC this year for the fist time but have a couple questions.
1) Which airport should I fly into?
2) Anyone have a hotel recommendation?

I have been in contact with the buyer and explained I think that misunderstandings caused our discussion to go down a road that could have been avoided.
The buyer ended up paying for his original auctions and in good faith I refunded his shipping and told him I would give him 50% off shipping and deliver all his books at once (if he decides to bid on any of my current auctions).
I have 100% positive feedback with over 1000 feedback and I wanted to do everything I could to rectify this situation.

We are slowly making our way there (to 16, at least) -- we have 8 entries total.

Do we just give the prize to @ivdyer now or later...Ha
He's got some great pieces, but there are some great covers out there owned by others.
I do hope that @ivdyer participates.
So far only 5 entries -- hoping that when the weekend is over more people will see the thread.

OK, so I thought it would be fun to have a tournament style contest on sketch covers!
There must be at least 16 entries, although ideally I'd REALLY like to have 32 so I'm hoping that happens
Here are the rules:
1) PRIVATE MESSAGE me with Subject 'SKETCH CONTEST ENTRY' and include ONE sketch cover (one entrie per person). Please provide the artist name. If the cover is a "jam" piece, please list all artists on the book.
2) No more stinkin rules!
How the contest works:
I will have my art critic friend "seed" the entries and we will then list the comics in four brackets: Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta & Dave Stevens
After all the entries are received and the seeding is completed, the voting will begin. A poll for each "contest" will be created for forum members to vote. Each round will last one week until we have a winner.
There will of course be a prize, and if anyone wants to donate a prize of their own, they are welcome to do so.
Let's begin!

I honestly don't remember activating the non-paying bidder auto function, and I told the buyer that. I would have been happy to research into how to disable it and continue dialogue but then conversation took a turn for the worse and he starting accusing me of jerking him around.
After asking me for scans of every book I still had available (after telling him he could find them in my closed auctions), I just didn't have any more patience for the buyer.
And after terminating the conversation with the buyer, he still hasn't paid...

I know this thread is about issue #1, however the past couple erotic variants have not had any visible penetration and should be eligible for CGC grading. Jenny Frison did a very lovely erotic variant for issue #4 that I expect will be a hot commodity at least for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't say it's a buyers market if the books never make it into sellers hands.
Take a look at eBay and you will be hard pressed to find Playboys in NM/NM+ condition.
I look frequently and in all my years I've only scored one celeb book in 9.8.
