  1. CGC cases are not sealed closed on the side. If you give them enough of a tug, you can pull the sides slightly open, but never enough to slip the inner well out. This way, if you decide to crack the book out later, you don't do damage to the comic. But do they usually come with cracks and scuffs too? I looked through a few of my other CGC slabs and have yet to find one that I can fit more than a finger nail in the crease.
  2. So I bought this Walking Dead 100 Red Foil Variant on eBay from seller wood2k1 and it arrived today with a two cracks and a big split down one side, a huge scuff and split on the other. I immediately contacted the seller and he says he won't refund the money because he doesn't see any damage, and starts immediately going off on how he has never stiffed a customer since 2001 and blah blah and that I'm am trying to scam him because I did a "Best Offer" to which I replied "you don't walk into a car dealership and ask to pay sticker price". Please tell me if I am seeing damage that isn't there?: Quarter by jdrevan, on Flickr giant scratch and crack by jdrevan, on Flickr Gap and Crack by jdrevan, on Flickr 20140210_234807 by jdrevan, on Flickr 20140210_234748 by jdrevan, on Flickr
  3. Ruh-roh...maybe it's just a hazing thing for ze noobs? If it's who I think it may be, expect it on approximately the 35th day. Doubt it's hazing, a previous purchase from the boards he shipped quick, same with previous eBay purchases.
  4. Here is a question... what are you supposed to do when a reputable vendor from these boards sells you items, you pay for the items, but still have not received the items, shipping info is not uploaded in PayPal and the vendor isn't reading or responding to your inquiries into them? It's been 23 days since I've paid for the item.
  5. What are you guys doing to get comparatively fast service compared to me? And does anyone else think it's weird that we are applauding inadequate customer service? "Look at this improvement"... great you improved your turn arounds a couple of days, too bad a lot more of it needs to happen. People don't pay them $28 for 10 day MFT to see their books turn around in 20 or more business days. Maybe I'm wrong, but if I ran a smoke and mirrors operation like they are all of the time (probably just once), I'd be demoted. This kind of service really just makes their competition look that much more appealing to me.
  6. My first submissions turned out about how I had expected.. except I have been buying comics for awhile and paying a little to a lot more for CGC slabbed books, or paying for whatever comic shop I was stationed near to mail them off to CGC. I finally did a cost analysis and found that it was more cost effective to just get a membership to CGC. So fast forward.... With my coupon I submitted four books, all DC New 52: Batman 1, Justice League 1, Green Lantern 1, Action Comics 1. All four were sketch variants and all four were in, from what I could tell in my grading experience 9.6 to 9.8. It turns out I was fairly accurate with them. Batman = 9.8 Green Lantern = 9.8 Action Comics = 9.8 Here is the curve ball to my expectations... Justice League was a 9.4. Now I'm wondering, did they get damaged in shipment or did I miss something? Again, all four comics were in the same condition in my opinion when they were boxed up. I packed them very well, each comic bagged and boarded, individually sandwiched between two 200lb test pieces of cardboard and then packed two books to a Bags Unlimited 200lb cardboard comic mailer with card board cuts filling the gap. Both boxes were then taped together and wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in another box filled with bubbled wrap. Anyways, I have four more getting graded now, Batman 2 sketch, and 3 x Robyn Hood: Wanted 1's CS Moore Ltd 100. I'll see if that was a fluke or if I need to go back to comic grading school. My predictions are: Batman 2: 9.8 RH:W 1: 9.8 x 2 RH:W 1: 9.9 or better x 1. I opened up the cardboard sandwiching and this book virtually started glowing and trumpets started playing from the heavens. I searched high and low for a defect using my jewelers glass and all and couldn't find one. They are scheduled for grading now, so in a few days I should know. 7. I know I'm a little late to the game on this conversation, but LED light bulbs (no UV light from them) and Archival "Museum" glass on the front of the frame should do the trick on this if it is in a windowless room. I would still err on the side of not leaving the lights on all day, but between the lack of UV light from the sun and LED bulbs, the minimal UV protection offered from the CGC case and the near 100% protection offered from the museum glass, you should be good to go on this.
